RANA PLAZA COLLAPSE
Owner, 40 others indicted n Md Sanaul Islam Tipu
A Dhaka court yesterday indicted 41 people, including Rana Plaza owner Sohel Rana, in a case filed over the country’s deadliest industrial disaster that killed over 1,100 people in April 2013. The trial started yesterday following charge framing against the accused by the Dhaka District and Sessions Judge SM Kuddus Zaman. The court framed the charges against them after it took the charges, including murder charge, into cognisance more than one year af-
ter the submission of charge sheet in the case. The court also fixed September 18 to start recording of witness deposition. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) mentioned names of 594 people in the charge sheet as witnesses including a number of wounded victims to probe the case. During charge framing, 34 accused including Sohel Rana and his parents were present in the court. They claimed innocence and demanded justice after the prosecution read out the charges to them.
