After Rajya Sabha, India’s lower house Lok Sabha yesterday also unanimously passed the constitution amendment bill to pave way for ratifying and implementing the 1974 Land Boundary Agreement between Bangladesh and India. The bill, piloted by Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj, was passed by a vote of 331-0 in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. After the bill’s passage, Modi personally thanked Sonia in the Lok Sabha, Indian TV channel NDTV reported. Modi also called Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to give her the good news. He tweeted: “Spoke to Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina and conveyed my greetings to the people of Bangladesh on this landmark occasion.” Meanwhile, Hasina yesterday ordered the Home Ministry officials to ensure security for the people in the enclaves during the acquisition and transfer of territories. During the passage of the bill, a number of lawmakers said the implementation of the agreement would help protect human interest. Rajya Sabha passed the bill on Wednesday,
