In some parts of the United Kingdom, people collect leaves and flowers to make garlands and call it a Garland day. With a promise to make the world more green and beautiful,

Danger under the sea The pirates sailed slowly in the sea, far away from land. They were bad men, who stole money and jewels, and even hurt people. All of a sudden, the ship began to shake, and huge arms started rising from all sides of the ship. This scary creature was so big that the ship seemed very small. In a few seconds, the ship was gone under the sea. It seems like the Kraken had struck again!

Life at Risk One of the most important things you do in life is take risks. This little boy is risking his safety just to have fun which will have many of us scared. However, it is this daredevil manner of children that makes them so charming.

Meet the Artist

Dexter’s Laboratory Boom! Crash! Ting! What was that?

That was Dexter, working in his lab to create something incredible. The little scientist and his laboratory are famous for making the smartest, weirdest and the most wonderful things. But the greatest scientist of them all is Genndy Borisovich Tartakovsky, and Dexter is one of his

best creations.

Genndy had a very tough time becoming a cartoonist. Following his heart, he finally became one which was a gift to the world! He helped in the creation of the Powerpuff Girls, and Star Wars: Clone Wars.

He created Dexter’s Laboratory, Samurai Jack and even the recent animated movie, Hotel Transylvania.

It is amazing how all this came from a small Russian boy who loved to read comic books. Rad Sharar

Safety Pin Bead Bracelet Make your own hand-made jewelry that looks great!

What you’ll need • Safety pins, at least 30 large ones • A variety of small beads • Wide, thin elastic cut into two pieces Instructions Open a safety pin, and place the beads on

the pointy end, one at a time, until it is full. Close the pin. Be careful when you do this!

Repeat this for all pins.

Now string the elastic through a pin, one through the hole on the head of the pin and one at the end.

String the elastic through all of them until you have nice bracelet forming.

Tie the ends into a tight knot and presto!

Making Rainbows

What you’ll need • A small paper cup • Two small beads Instructions • Use scissors to make a small hole at the bottom of the cup.

This is to make sure that the bead you want to vanish can pass through easily. Take help from your parents for this step.

• Put the second bead in your pocket.

• Hold the cup with your hands at the base of the cup.

• Drop the object inside the cup and let it pass through the hole and fall in your hand.

• Turn the cup over. The object will seem to have disappeared.

• Reach into your pocket and take the second bead out.

• It will seem that the object has reached your pocket.

Tintin, my baby white tiger (as I like to call her), was with me for about nine months. She was a very fun loving one. My days would be so wonderful when they started with her! But she got lost one day, and after much crying, I understood that she wasn’t coming back anymore.

A year passed and I was over my obsession with Tintin. But one day, as I was getting out from my student’s house, I saw a cat which looked just like Tintin. I had a feeling it was her and as I called out her name softly, she meowed back and came running to me. I hugged her and saw her little kittens. I wanted to take her back home, but Tintin wouldn’t leave her kids behind. I left her there, and I still visit her every day. Anka Malik

Make your own rainbows with this fun science experiment!

What you’ll need • A glass of water (3/4) • White paper • Sunlight

Instructions Take the glass of water and paper to a sunny part of the room.

Hold the glass of water above the paper and watch as sunlight forms a rainbow of colours on your sheet of paper.

Try holding the glass of water at

different heights and angles to see if it has a different effect.

What’s happening?

While you normally see a rainbow in the sky, they can also form in other situations, for example in a water fountain or in the mist of a waterfall and you can even make your own!

Rainbows form when sunlight bends as it passes through raindrops, the same way as it did through your glass of water. The sunlight separates it into the colours red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Faizah Aziz
