Jonaki's Headquarters Hey friends, On Monday, we celebrated the birthday of Lewis Carroll. He was the writer who gave us the story of Alice in Wonderland. If you haven’t read them yet, you must! They are fantastic, magical, and so much fun! And speaking of fantastic, we’re back with the Treehouse comic this week. Yay!

It’s a joyride!

These fun loving souls are always on the go. For them, fun is the song of life.

This picture reminds us that there can be more to life than just seriousness.

Work can be forgotten once in a while and pure fun can be had. These kids know what it is like to jump behind the rickshaw and feel the wind on their faces. They know what it is like to make brick houses and feel like kings of their own make believe kingdoms.

This is what life should be like. So, the next time you get on a rickshaw, feel the breeze, look at the colours around

you, pick a flower off a nearby bush and remember these wonderful souls, who made you feel so joyful.

As a perfect lunch buddy, Mr Andrew Tam is from the Canadian Trillinium School.

He is a high school math teacher; ready to help you succeed as you make your way through hard work.

He believes when students know a teacher cares about them, they will care about school and their work, and feel there is a meaning to what they are doing in class. That’s why he tries his best to get to know each of his students, so they feel they have a bond with the teacher and that their work - and they themselves matter.

Mr Tam’s motto is: Food brings people together. It is something we all have in common, and we can’t go wrong with loving food, as everyone can relate with you.

This is why he spends time connecting with students in the younger years - in the cafeteria, math club, during basketball (both school teams and intramurals), and any chance he gets.

He usually quotes “My beliefs for teaching is simply students don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.’”

Before setting foot on Earth, Lucifer has ruled Hell for over 10 billion years, punishing human souls for their sins. After a fair amount of time, Lucifer got bored as the ruler of Hell; and decided to lock the gate of Hell and hand over the keys to dream of the endless, and moved on to Earth. Lucifer is still dubbed as the most beautiful, most powerful and the wisest of all the angels in Heaven.

The little fairy is back Remember Peter Pan? If you do, then I’m sure you remember his trusty side-kick, Tinker Bell. And guess what? She is back with her own new story.

It was in 2008 that Disney first brought a Tinker Bell story presenting the pretty little fairy as the main character, and now they have come up with their fourth production in 2012, titled “Tinker Bell and the Secret of the Wings.”

It is time at Pixie Hollow to make snowflake baskets to send over to the Winter Woods. But there is a problem, the Winter Woods are off-limits! One day Tink crosses the border into the forbidden land and realises that her wings start to

• Female Black Widows have a shiny black body with a red “hour-glass” shaped marking on their stomachs.

They are about the size of a paperclip.

• Black widows are not insects, they are arachnids- animals that have a skeleton outside their body, and eight jointed legs.

• Black widows use a silk-like substance to weave tangledlooking webs, typically close to the ground in covered or dark places, such as near drain pipes or under logs.

• These webs catch beetles, flies, grasshoppers, moths and other spiders. They are meat-eating spiders!

• The female hangs upside down in the web to await her prey, exposing her bright markings as a warning to potential predators.

• They are one of the most poisonous and dangerous spiders in North America.

• Their deadly poison is said to be 15 times stronger than rattlesnake venom! But the amount they inject in a bite usually does not kill humans. They are shy and do not attack unless disturbed!

• The male is about half the size of the female and the name “black widow” comes from the female’s habit of eating the male after mating.

• The female black widow lays approximately 200 eggs in a small cocoon that’s attached to the mother’s web.When they hatch they are on their own.

• She is a prey to wasps, praying mantis and some birds.

Try dropping an egg into a glass of plain water. What happens? It sinks, of course!

But have you ever seen an egg float?

Here’s how you do it What you’ll need • One egg • Water • Salt • A tall drinking glass Instructions • Pour water into the glass until it is about half full.

• Stir in lots of salt (about six

tablespoons).

• Carefully pour in plain water until the glass is nearly full (be careful to not disturb or mix the salty water with the plain water).

• Gently lower the egg into the water and watch what happens.

What’s happening?

Salt water is heavier than ordinary tap water. The heavier the liquid, the easier

it is for an object to float in it. When you lower the egg into the liquid, it drops through the normal tap water until it reaches the salty water. At this point the water is heavy enough for the egg to float. If you were careful when you added the tap water to the salt water, they will not mix, allowing the egg to amazingly float in the middle of the glass.

Doorknob Hangers like those on hotel doors, except you can make these at home and write in your very own message

Ever had that problem when you were busy doing your homework and your sibling came barging in? Or when you were sleeping and your mom came in, turning on the lights to speak to you because she didn’t know you were sleeping?

Well then, I have a simple answer for you, make a doorknob hanger! Yeah

What you need • Chart paper or cardboard • A cup, mug or a jar lid • Pencil • Ruler • Crayons, markers, coloured pencils and paint • Scissors • Optional: Stickers, beads, stamps, glitter What to do • Get a cup, mug or jar whose mouth fits into your doorknob.

• Use the pencil to draw a rectangle on the chart paper, around nine inches in length and four inches in width.

• Place the cup, mug or jar lid on the top of the rectangle, leaving one inch gap all around it and trace the circle with a pencil.

• Now cut out the rectangle and the circle you made in it. Be careful with scissors, you can get somebody older to do it!

• Now write a message on each side of the doorknob hanger, it could be “come in” on one side and “stay out” on the other, or you could write whatever else you want, even just that it is YOUR room!

• Decorate the hanger with paint, crayons and markers, even add in stickers and glitters.

And there you have your own message that will stop people from barging into your room!

Why you no potty, Jakey?

Jake the handsome puppy, was potty trained within 10 days. The 10 day hard work of potty training finally paid off when he was seen to be using only his toilet and no one else’s. Jake, now a handsome teenager, likes his toilet neat and clean. When he was a puppy, he used to go potty quite a few times, but now as a teenager he would go potty about three times.

Just a few days back Jake was seen to be quite uncomfortable with his toilet. He would not go potty even once. So, he was taken to the toilet

by his owners and he was happy to use it. This went on for a few days, till the mystery was solved. Guess what had managed to bother Jake? A baby cockroach. The insect was in the toilet for a couple of days and clearly Jake hated, or was probably scared, of it!

After the cockroach was killed and the toilet cleaned, Jake returned to his habit and needed no company. See, cockroaches manage to scare every living being on Earth, even bravest of the dogs! anka malik
