There are many connections and interconnections in the film and with every twist and turn, we are confronted with new revelations about the story and the characters.

Red is symbolically rich with complex characters and difficult questions about life. The last movie that Kielowski made is a master piece that is watched and taught in many film schools. Watch this movie because it is a greatly told story and you’ll realise why it holds such a critically acclaimed position among movie aficionados.

At first glance, the Jazz looks like a fairly good car, with a few minor facelifts making it much more attractive than its predecessors. The interior is spacious and well-built, and the car’s backseats can easily fit two large adults. The boot isn’t small either and with 400 litres of space, it’s one of the biggest cars in its class. The rear seats can be folded in several ways to further increase the boot space. Finally, the car’s panoramic roof allows its passengers to enjoy the scenery of all seasons.

The Honda Jazz is a five-door hatchback that comes with a choice of two

engines: a 1.3l, 98hp and a 1.5l, 117hp.

Both engines come with a five-speed manual transmission and front wheel drive. Honda claims that the Jazz has an astonishing fuel mileage of 10/13 km per litre, so the car seems quite efficient. Like all of its larger siblings, this little Honda likes the red line on the rpm metre. In fact, the little i-VTEC engine has enough power to outrun most of its rivals, going from 0-100km/ h in under ten seconds. though you can’t expect to beat a sports car with this five-door family hatchback.

For those not-so-pleasant mornings when you find yourself looking at the mirror wondering when the storm hit you, follow these five minute fixes to instantly transform your look Natasha Rahman l Step 1: Damage control If you don’t have dry shampoo, that one magical tool for instantly lustrous hair, try its simpler counterpart: baby powder. Take very little baby powder on your finger tips and rub your fingers through your scalp. Be careful not to use too much as it might give your hair an awfully grey tinge. l Step 2: Style that unruly mop Once of the most interesting thing about a ponytail is its ability to hold better just when you’re having a bad day. A ponytail takes to bad hair like fish to water. Not only does an oily scalp give you a smoother finish, it also tends to hold back fly-away’s that are evident when tying up freshly shampooed hair.

The sock bun Another quick look you can master while taking care of your unruly mop is the sock bun. Tie your hair up in a high ponytail using a tight hair band. Take an old sock and snip off the edge near the toes. Roll it into a donut shape. Next, hold the end of your ponytail upwards towards the ceiling and place it between the doughnut, making sure the sock doesn’t roll all the way down to the where you’ve tied your hair. To achive the bun, start by tucking and pushing hair inwards towards the doughnut hole.

Once you have all the hair rolled up, pin it up with bobby pins and you have a stylish bun in place.

Moving is grooving Samira Mostafa There I was, waiting for the next stage of my pregnancy to complete itself.

Among all the folic acid, dieting, and unpredictable cravings, I waited and waited. I kept bugging my hubby with questions, like “When will I feel the first movement of the baby? Why haven’t I felt him move yet? How will I distinguish his movement from my bowel movement?” I went on and on, wondering when it would finally happen. My pregnancy books stated that movements are supposed to be felt somewhere around 15 weeks and onwards, and that some may feel the movement earlier or later. I felt it later.

I went for yet another visit to the doc to check the baby’s size and position of the baby. Yes, I did a lot more ultrasounds than normal, but that was completely because of my doctor’s recommendations and not because I was paranoid. So, I saw my growing baby with his large head, tiny arms and crossed legs. He was in good shape and had a normal heartbeat, but I still hadn’t felt him move.

Sometime around week 22, I felt the first tiny kick, which happened way below where I had expected it to. It was an amazing feeling. Every now and then, I would sit quietly and try to figure out the differences in the baby’s movements, which were minuscule and felt funny initially. I loved the feeling and tried getting my hubby to feel them as well, but he couldn’t when they first began. So for then, it was my joy alone.

To feel and to be felt by my baby was precious. As the months passed, the movements became vigorous and erratic.

Every now and then, I would feel a huge kick that almost made me fall over. That was the extreme moment when I knew I belonged somewhere bigger and greater in this world: a league of motherhood that only a mother can know.

Take one strand of hair from bottom of the left part and bring it to the right section of hair. Repeat for the right section. Putting together a look that involves a suit is easier for the most part. Now, buying a jacket and separate trousers can seem a bit more daunting. There’s different styles of jackets and different fits for trousers so it’s understandable if you find yourself totally lost Not to worry, gentlemen, there’s a solution to pretty much everything regarding style. It’s simpler than you are led to believe. What you may not know is that the trick on getting things right goes beyond matching the colours. It has plenty to do with each item’s fabric.

It all has to come together to make the outfit a hit. l Flannel – These trousers as possibly the most versatile of the lot. You can wear flannel trousers nearly all year round. Tweed and corduroy jackets are suited best for flannel. l Wool – Smoother than flannel, these look best with a blazer that have a contrasting fabric. Pairing it with a tweed jacket is always a winner. l Cotton corduroy – This should be in front of the line for winter selection.

It’s warmer than flannel and wool and should go best with equally warm jackets. To make things stand out, soft wool and cashmere jackets will turn heads.

l Chinos – A dressed-down style, the chinos look best with a more relaxed number. Corduroy jackets happen to bring out a wonderful effect. Best part, you don’t have to sacrifice a sophisticated look.

The colours of jackets and trousers differ from the fabrics used to make each of them. An important rule to always remember is that the colour tones must be matched rather the actual colours themselves.

Q: Since the weather is slowly shifting to the cold, I was keen on wearing a cardigan under my blazer. I know there is a certain way to layering, but is that too much?

A: Autumn/winter is always an exciting time of the year when it comes to men’s fashion. There are so many choices to deal with, especially when it comes to layering. The cardigan under any jacket is actually a very stylish idea, as long as it is thin. Any kind of knitwear has to be thin and snug, if you want to add a jacket over it. Layering is a must but you have to keep away from the thick pieces. If you decide to go with a thick and cosy cardigan, putting on a jacket will make you look too bulky and uncomfortable. It’s either the thin cardigan with the blazer or the thick cardigan without the blazer. It’s that simple.

Autumn arrival Well, the hotter days are past us. We’ve strolled along into autumn, thus preparations for the last quarter of the year should be underway.

During the autumn/winter months, there will be much more to play with. In other words, the menswear scene will be busier but in a good way.

Even though we’re a few months off, the days will get colder and more layers will make their way onto your body.

There will be so many combinations that you won’t have to stress about what to wear. Or maybe you will. l Colours – Summer is over, gentlemen. Loud colours and lighter fabrics won’t have too much say in the autumn wardrobe. Look for shades of grey, brown, and navy.

have lighter contrasts to an already conservative look. A navy suit with an orange pocket square saves you from looking grim. l Fabrics – This should be a no-brainer. Cotton is good, wool and tweed are better. Even if wool or tweed are unavailable the items you pick up will tend to have a heavier feel. The thread count will rise, just like in a cableknit cardigan. These will pick up as soon as the cold creeps in.

The autumn trends are soon to follow, so it’s good to be prepared ahead of time.

Style tip: Create contrast. For example, never wear grey trousers with a similar coloured grey jacket.

Q: I’ve seen some men take their suit jackets off when getting into the car. Is that the proper way to go on about rides in cars?

A: It’s a good practice to carry on wherever you end up going. Unless you are wearing a trench coat, leather jacket, or any kind of knitted layers, it’s best to take your suit jacket off. You want to avoid wrinkles or any other damage the jacket can be exposed to.

Next time you enter a car, make sure the jacket is off, folded vertically, and placed on your lap or onto the side.

If you happen to have a hanger lying around in the car, it wouldn’t hurt to hang the jacket on the top handle bar above the car door. But then again, that could come off a tad ostentatious.

In which case, scratch that entire idea and stick to being a proper w gentleman.

Outfit: Your clothing is one of the first

things people notice, so make sure it looks good. If you aren’t comfortable in it, don’t wear it. If it pulls and snags and shows your bra straps, DON’T wear it! If you are wearing deshi wear, go for a freshly pressed salwar kameez with minimal patterns in neutral colours.

Studies show that the best shade to wear to an interview is navy blue. Beige, soft pink, brown and black get the job done as well. Just make sure it’s simple.

The focus should be on you and not the sequins on your sleeves. If you are opting for Western wear then you can wear a blazer with trousers topped off with a shirt. The important thing overall, no matter what you wear is to make sure it’s clean, ironed and well fitted. If you are unsure, get a second opinion.

equator, we can get away with wearing open-toed sandals but there are still rules when it comes to shoes for an interview. Make sure your shoes are clean and polished. If you must wear open toed sandals, make sure it has straps and is not a slip on. Slip on flats look too casual.

Note: Do NOT drag your feet on the floor and make noise. It is very distracting and rude.

Aesthetics:

If your hair is long, pull it up in a bun or have it half up. If you have bangs, please make sure they don’t cover your eyes. If you have shorter hair, use hair grips to secure them. There are tons of tutorials out there for short hair.

A great one is just to side part the hair, twist it and clip it. Dye away any crazy highlights that you might have in your hair, and if that’s not an option; hide it.

Save your green eye shadows and Russian Red lipsticks till after work. Do wear a little bit of makeup. A little bit of gold shimmery eye shadow with a matte brown crease and black eyeliner looks perfect. Don’t overdo it with the cat liner either and avoid bright lips. You never know if you have lipstick on your teeth and that wouldn’t be pretty.

Little details always count. Since you will most likely have your hands on the table at some point, make sure your nails are trimmed and are either bare or painted in something muted. This means no crazy hot pink and neon green nail polishes.

Also, if you have leftover chipped nail polish on your nails from last week, get rid of it. Nothing says lazy like chipped nail polish.

Note: You may also want to avoid putting mehendi on your nails if you are expecting to go to an interview.

One early-morning challenge many women face is choosing the right shade of make-up for a corporate environment. Though looking competent and professional is incredibly important, the trick is finding a look that enhances your natural beauty but not hide who you really are Tilat Khayer

Preparation is always important and the planning ahead will surely save you at least another 15 minutes in the mornings (more time in bed). It’s a good idea to prepare for the weekday looks on Saturday nights, so you don’t spend time deciding what to wear or rummaging through drawers looking for a particular colour right before work.

Whether you are an intern just starting out or the big boss lady, we've outlined the tried and tested products to make your beauty routine work for you come weekday morning.

Base In or out of the office, make-up looks better on healthy, hydrated skin. In the unflattering work light, one can see everything, so start with a good moisturiser for a smooth surface under makeup. A tinted moisturiser paired with an illuminating concealer will warm the skin tone under harsh fluorescent lights.

Foundations and concealers applied sparingly will make sure your base

isn’t too thick or cakey. I adore dewy skin where it’s appropriate, but for a long-lasting look, matte is the way to go. Dust your face with translucent powder to matte it down and carry blotting papers for lunchtime touchups.

Eyes Since you want your make-up to last through out the day it is advisable to start with a good eye shadow base.

For eyes, there are a number of excellent products: MAC Paint pots like Painterly, Groundwork, Benefit’s Recess, RSVP, and Urban Decay Priming Potion are just a few of my picks for a smoothing base.

Eye colours are up next, and I have a couple of work safe shades that I adhere to for sophisticated subtle looks. Colours that make you look wide-awake are great as well but the glittery shades are a big no-no.

In conversation with Anjan Chowdhury, director of Mutual Trust Bank, managing director of Square Toiletries and managing director of Maasranga Television, about promoting the arts in Bangladesh.

He organised Maasranga-SPBA Art Camp in Pabna and a subsequent art auction this year Ishtiaque Mahmud

Art

Is this the first art auction our country has witnessed?

No, this is not the first auction. One other preceded this a long time ago. We had completely forgotten about the one before and were only reminded of it on the day of our auction. The first one was conducted by Akku Chowdhury in La Galleria.

How did something like the idea of an art auction come about?

We recently had an art camp in Pabna.

As is customary, all the paintings belong to the person who funds the art camp, but SPBA is a non-profit organisation.

During the art camp we decided to hold an exhibition and while part of the returns from the exhibition will go to the artists who participated, the rest of the money will go to young and aspiring artists.

We had the exhibition for only four hours and there were a lot of queries regarding whether we could continue this exhibition for a few more days but unfortunately, the place where we held the exhibition, while beautiful, was not

under the hammer a place where one could continue to extend the exhibition. It was not a gallery, and it would have inconvenienced people who lived nearby.

Now Bengal’s Chairman, Abul Khair Litu, is a good friend of mine; in fact, he is more like an older brother. He was one of the guests invited to the exhibition but he was abroad at the time, so he couldn’t make it. When he asked how it went, I told him that given such a small window of four hours, one couldn’t hope to expect much in terms of response.

To that he suggested that since our purpose is to raise money, the best way to do it is to have an auction at Bengal gallery. In order to do so, we needed to spend more than we’d expect to get in return. During the exhibition in Pabna the people invited were my guests so I never set a fixed budget. It was never about how much was spent, it was more about people having a good time.

Where did the auction take place and who was the auctioneer?

We had a meeting with the rest of the relevant people from Mutual Trust Bank

and we decided to host it on the bank’s top floor.

When it came to the subject of the auctioneer, we realised that no one had any prior experience. Anis A Khan, a member of the board and managing director of Mutual Trust Bank, said he would give it a shot. Being such a capable person, he was very confident and did a great job.

How does the outcome of the auction compare to your expectations regarding it?

We were quite surprised by the outcome, even our finance minister acquired two paintings during the auction. It was quite interesting.

What kind of impact do you imagine an auction such as this will have in promoting artists and their skills?

We would like to promote Bangladeshi artists and their skills, and in order to do that, we hold a lot of art camps like we did in Pabna recently. The next one is going to be in Sylhet in a tea garden sponsored by Citycell. Mehbub

Chowdhury, one of the board members, is arranging that.

We also plan on having long seminars, in which we will invite young artists while bringing in some of the top artists of the country. We are thinking of asking Shahabuddin Ahmed and others of similar calibre, and you must understand, these people are legends to young artists; it would be a dream come true and an honour for them to get a chance to interact with such legends.

I’m sure for them it will be a wonderful learning experience. A lot of them want to do things but they don’t have sufficient money to back them up.

Apart from that, we would also like to help them financially. When we hold art exhibitions, the money that we generate, half of it goes out to the participating artists, which I believe helps them in their endeavours.

In the corporate world, the artists do come across lucrative business.

Opportunities for various contract based art works such as corporate sculptures are now opening up. How do you think this trend will evolve over time?

I must say, I’m quite certain this trend will increase over time. If you take a look at the history of art in Bangladesh, the general people had next to no idea about it. We did not look at our art the way foreigners did. They held our art in much higher regard than we ourselves gave it credit for. I’m talking about the paintings of Zainul Abedin, SM Sultan, Kibria Akhter etc. Their paintings were mostly purchased by foreigners. A lot of rare and valuable paintings have gone to Pakistan, the USA, and a number of European countries. We didn’t understand it, neither did we make an effort to do so. It is only now that we are slowly learning to acknowledge it and giving it it’s rightful value. I started collecting paintings from the late 70s and back then the scenario was very different.

When I was studying in the states, I used to come to Bangladesh and take back paintings as gifts. This was highly

appreciated by my friends overseas.

Eventually I myself began to learn to appreciate them; first I wanted one for

In those days we only had Shaju Arts; we’d go there, pick a piece of artwork and he would take the frame out and roll it up for us to take away. I’d give these rolled up pieces of art as gifts to my friends abroad. The fact that my friends appreciated these gifts so much gave me much joy back in those days myself and then I wanted a second one, and before I knew it, I had cultivated quite an appetite for it. Digging a little deeper I was disappointed to realise that a number of valuable paintings were no longer within our borders.

There are a number of occasions in which we have lost our paintings for a song, in a manner of speaking. For example, let’s say a senior member in a High Commission sees a painting he likes hanging on the wall and soon after receives it for next to nothing.

But like I said, this unfortunate phenomenon is experiencing a paradigm shift of sorts. We are finally learning to appreciate our art properly.

The world has grown smaller through technological advancements and we are now exposed to global perspectives more than ever before. As it turns out, the foreigners do not stand a chance in competing with us. They may come here and hold an exhibition, but in most cases in such exhibitions, the highest selling paintings come from our own country.

So to answer your question, yes I think there is a very bright future waiting for us in this field. There are magnificent artists out there on our soil, especially the immensely talented young ones.

As far as I understand, you started growing an affinity towards art.

There are degrees to this affinity such as being a fan, an enthusiast, a connoisseur or a fanatic, where would you put yourself in that order?

I’d say I’m just a fan, there is so much to art that I cannot yet comprehend; but I believe I can appreciate it.

Not everything is of equal value to everyone. In my opinion, a painting is something you should not buy for the sake of simply buying it. I know people who would just order paintings. They’d order five pieces from someone without taking the time to appreciate what he is sending. In such cases profound art is brought down to the level of mere decoration. Sadly, it becomes a matter of

prestige for them. If they’d see something in someone’s house and they’d go like “Oh I need one of those now”; that is an unfair way to treat art indeed.

However, that attitude towards art is understandable if through this process people learn to cultivate an appreciation the art, just like I have over time.

Spicy chicken wings with honey mustard dip

A hot favourite for most spice lovers is spicy chicken wings.

Made of juicy wings, red chilli paste and the sweetness of oyster sauce, these spicy wings combine some of the simplest, yet most delicious ingredients from the culinary world. Combined with a delectable honey mustard dip, every bite of these wings will take you one step closer to the next, urging you to devour all there is left and more. Bon appetit!

Ingredients •20 chicken wings •30g red chilli paste •10g garlic •10g ginger •10ml soy sauce •10ml fish sauce •20ml oyster sauce •Salt and pepper to taste • 200ml cooking oil

Honey mustard dip •1/2 cup honey •1/2 cup mustard •4tbsp Worcestershire sauce •1/4 cup mayonnaise Directions: 1) Marinate the wings with all the ingredients above and leave them in the freezer overnight for best results.

2) In a mixing bowl, whisk all the ingredients for the sauce to a smooth consistency and texture.

3) In a deep pan, heat the oil and fry the wings till brown. Remove from pan.

4) Serve the wings with honey mustard dip.

My space two Studio apartments are small. A 600 sqft unit can be considered a luxury studio. In places like Hong Kong and Manhattan, where prices for space are premium, there are 250 sqft units that try to cram in as much amenities as possible M K Aaref

Do not expect to put together a 3 course gourmet meal with all the trimmings in one of those kitchens. There is simply no space for elaborate storage of ingredients. The kitchenette is there to do basic things such as preparing a simple breakfast and heating up meals.

The toilet will not have a bath-tub for sure. There will be a basic sink, toilet and a tight shower enclosure, barely enough to stand. In many western cities and increasingly in East Asia, these tight spaces are in high demand. Spaces may be crammed, but many of them, located

in high-rises, offer spectacular views.

Other than a kitchen and a toilet, there is only one large room. A few luxury models may have a separate enclosure, slightly larger than a walk in closet, for the bed itself. Designing and decorating these spaces is an art on its own and there are countless books and articles devoted to them.

In Dhaka, developers love regular apartments, ie with two bedrooms or more, and well

spread-out living and dining rooms. Studio like apartments, at the moment, are confined to sub-lets and in older homes where owners rent out just a room or two.

M K Aaref is a trained architect and has been working in this field for the past 25 years. His expertise lie in residences, retails, office spaces and hospitality industry.

As far as I know, the units sold like hot cakes and rentals are a premium with short-term expat consultants who do not want to stay in a hotel for a few months nor want to rent a regular apartment.

In most cases, tenants do not get the total privacy and independence they may want. Sometimes the kitchen/ toilet, or both may be a shared facility.

There is only one building that I know of, in very upscale Baridhara, which was designed totally with studio apartments.

Poring hot springs De-stress in the natural hot springs at Poring Hot Springs. The water here is known to have healing properties which works as a remedy for travel fatigue. Poring Hot Springs is located about 136km from Kota Kinabalu and is open every day from. Taxi, bus or a rented car can be means of transportation to the hot springs. Essentials: travellers should take their own swim gear, towels, and slippers. Fees are about 10 to 15RM.

Poring canopy walkway Not recommended for those with alto phobia, but the breathtaking view from this walkway is a must for anyone who’s stopping for Poring Hot Springs. The canopy walkway is a narrow bridge suspended with ropes, around 43 metres above the ground. This swingy walkway is about 175 metres long. Foreign visitors must pay a small fee to enjoy the canopy walkway. Hiking shoes or sneakers are recommended as the walkway will take about an hour to complete.

Had enough sightseeing? Here is a list of things you can do to get your adrenaline pumping Paragliding In essence, this activity constitutes doing a running jump off a cliff top strapped to a paragliding professional right behind you along with a parachute.

After your last step on anything solid, the experience is breathtaking. You can slide back in a seating position which the parachute equipment allows, and absorb the stimulation of all your senses in one go – the sight of drifting beyond a cliff edge, the sound of rushing wind, the smell of high altitude fresh air, and the touch of the parachute straps you are holding on to for dear life. The trip generally lasts for three to eight minutes, but if you’re lucky and the wind picks up, you can stay up there for as long as fifteen minutes; that is quite a while to be floating aimlessly up in the clouds.

Scuba diving There’s a 15 minute brief by every diving official on the speed boat, and a brief struggle to get your scuba suit on. With your breathing equipment strapped, you must then go through another briefing in the water where your team leader, a trained professional in scuba diving, gives you an almost militarised training of how you are to behave near the ocean floor. After that it’s all water all around, the sound of your own breathing amplified by the equipment, the feel of the reeds and the sand under water. The refracted

view through your goggles gives you the impression that the fish staring you in the face is actually within your reach when in fact it isn’t. Seeing other divers just floating in mid water while you are swaying down there yourself, is a rather unique experience, not to mention the extravagance of underwater life zipping past you this way and that.

Para sailing Para sailing is simple, requires next to no training or briefing and is a lot of fun.

You get strapped to a parachute while sitting on the stern of a speed boat, after which a winch mechanism flies you like a kite. You float approximately 80 to 90 feet above sea level until the man at the winch decides to provide a little thrill, drops you in the ocean without notice and drags you through only to jerk you back up in the air.

White water rapid rafting This activity ranks the rapids on a scale of one to five and being a tourist you will most likely have access to one and two, which are basically toned down versions of the rest. You take a team of six or join in, sign a form, board a raft, grab an oar, and the rest is pretty much common sense. The water is peaceful with intervals of rapids, and when those rapids find you on a raft, it will make the grumpiest of tourists smile. After a two

hour rafting journey, if you timed it right, you would be famished and right where you park your raft, there is an open air buffet restaurant that serves a nice mix of what you will call appropriately delicious.

Snorkelling This one is rather simple and the faint hearted are just as welcome. You put on your snorkelling gear and lie face down in the shallows where the water is crystal clear and you float taking in the array of colourful fish flitting away or standing still, and the glittering sand moving in slow motion in rhythm with the water.

You can record a video of what you see if you have the right equipment for it, but you can also improvise by putting your camera or phone in a transparent zip lock bag and shoot away.

Mountain biking Imagine being driven up to a long winding mountain road, handed a classy mountain bike of your choice , and asked to drive down the ridiculously fun slopes for the next 18km. The first long downhill that brings you up to around 45km/h will remind you that you are no longer in Bangladesh and it will inevitably bring a grin to your face and a swarm of butterflies to the pit of your stomach.
