Frisco Performance HALL

How does a building’s design peak curiosity?

Curiosity allows for the human mind to further its desire for knowledge. The Frisco Performance Hall aims to answer a unique design question relating the behavioral and psycological aspects of human curiosity to the physical design of a large-scale concert hall. Humans are naturally curious and the Performance Hall’s design seeks to invoke it.

tHE sALE hOUSE

Constructed in 2004, The Sale House’s design was inspired by a Morphosis drawing that utilized a repeating scale of 2-4-6-8, now implemented to show the increasing scale of window sizes across different portions of the house. This design tactic creates a sense of asymmetrical perception, juxtaposing the massive, neutral-gray walls with the fluctuating geometric scale of the windows, peering into a vibrant interior design. As one would move through the interior spaces, the color schemes deviate from the exterior, using various vibrant colors that establish the purpose of a room. Private rooms use colors such as pink, turquoise, yellow and orange, while studio spaces use colors such as red, blue or yellow. Overall, this design pushes a kind of innovation separating it from the traditional and replicable style that is usually found within U.S. residential architecture. This project aims to replicate its layout as a part of an exercise to demonstrate its unique qualities and architectural design.

tHE Weekend House

“The Weekend House” is a theoretical design concept based on precedent analysis of the Sale House and other similar architectural designs. Using the previously analyzed projects, a program list was created to compile all necessary spaces within the house. By employing the Fibonacci sequence, all of the extrusions, nestings, and formation of the massing are based on a specific grid that makes the home completely proportional.
