C4 purchases a cuddle bed with charitable funds
Following a year of fundraising along with generous donations to the Georgina Ward charitable fund, the department has been able to purchase a £15,000 'cuddle bed' The cuddle bed is electronic and expands by the touch of a button to double width and will help the C4 ward in delivering palliative care.
The ability to be able to get into the same bed as your loved one and have a cuddle or offer comfort at the most tender of times is proving to be incredibly beneficial The bed is fully certified for two people, giving patients and carers peace of mind that not only is it helping to provide care, but it is also doing it safely.
We are very pleased that the bed has arrived in the Trust, we hope that it is making a difference to patients and their families
A brave family, who lost their unborn son at 32 weeks, fundraised an incredible £5,000 for our baby bereavement appeal Brave family purchases cold cots for the baby bereavement unit
When parents, Tegan Turner and Kieran Maritza, attended a hospital appointment for a check-up, they were sadly informed their baby had no heartbeat and had passed away The family were absolutely devastated and utterly broken by their beautiful loss.
The family decided to organise raffles, charity car washes, a sponsored walk and a charity evening, plus a sponsored inflatable fun run. They were overwhelmed with the support from the public and managed to raise enough funds to purchase two cold cots, which allows families to spend precious time, take photo to cherish, hold and cuddle him and make those lasting memories together
The cots have a plaque on them honouring Albie-Jo’s memory. Albie-Jo will now live on in a beautiful way, knowing that his cold cots will help other families in the same way as they did for Tegan and Kieran

Cubicle refurbishment offers sensory support to nervous young patients
Exciting news from our Paediatric Emergency Department team! In February, we proudly unveiled the newly upgraded main cubicle, thanks to the generous £10,000 grant from the Tesco Bags of Help scheme to our charity. Cubicle Four has been transformed into a vibrant, sensory space designed to calm and distract our young patients
The cubicle now features leafy jungle theme, where kids can search for hidden ladybirds and grasshoppers on the walls. With sensory equipment like bubble tubes and mood lighting, this upgrade provides the perfect distraction for any child in need of a little comfort during their hospital visit.
Enhancing patient experience with new televisions
Thanks to a generous charitable grant, we were able to provide 16 large televisions to enhance patient experience across the Trust These TVs, have been strategically placed in patient areas, offering both entertainment and a welcome distraction from the clinical setting.
The addition has been warmly received by patients and staff alike Jean-Marie Pegg, manager of the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Unit, emphasised the difference it makes: “We are incredibly grateful for this thoughtful donation to provide a vital source of entertainment and comfort to patients during their time with us. The TV is already proving to be beneficial for our patients and we’re really pleased we’re able to switch it on every morning.”
This initiative is part of the charity’s ongoing project to fund high- quality televisions throughout the Trust Beyond providing entertainment, the TVs help alleviate stress and create a more positive environment for patients during their stay.
