WELCOME J CAMPS FAMILIES!
Dear J Camps Family, I am honored to be serving as the Children and Camping Committee Chair again this year, and am excited to share with you the 2019 J Camps guide! We cannot wait to welcome back returning families and new families looking to experience all that J Camps has to offer.
Why Choose J Camps? Research shows that Jewish Day Camp has the unparalleled potential to meaningfully engage young members of the Jewish community, and positively influences the lives and future of not only campers but staff members as well. Jewish Day Camps welcome and embrace families of all faiths. Among the key Jewish values we promote at J Camps are compassion, courage, charity, kavod (respect for others), diversity and inclusion, and tikkun olam (making the world a better place). J Camps is the Jewish Day Camp to provide the opportunity for children to experience fun and adventure in a relaxing and safe environment. Kids will unplug! They will also learn new skills, gain more independence, and make new friends and maintain friendships. We have a large range of options including traditional day camps that bring children together for 4 weeks and an array of specialty camps (1 to 3 weeks in duration) that focus on art, theater, science, engineering, sports, and dance. Children get the opportunity to swim daily, and younger children are provided with high quality instructional swimming lessons. What’s new this year? We have added several new junior camps for 1st and 2nd graders, new specialty camp options for 3rd to 5th graders, and more options for teens! We are excited to bring new offerings that will allow some children to immerse themselves in Hebrew while at camp. See page6-7 for more information about Kayitz Kef. We are also bringing an innovative program called #BIGIDEA which focuses on technology and digital arts enriched with Israeli content. More information on #BIGIDEA on page 10. We hope to see you at our Camp Carnival on Sunday January 27, 2019 where some of our new camp partners will be there to give you a taste of the summer along with our year-round camp staff to answer any questions you may have. Then, get online or in line at the J on Sunday February 10, 2019 for our Camp Registration Day in order to obtain early bird prices. I want to thank the Children and Camping Committee and the Evelyn Rubenstein J staff for their hard work to making J camps such a caring, safe, innovative and fun place for kids to spend their summer. Please join me in sending your children to J Camps 2019! Michelle Cororve Fingeret

TRADITIONAL CAMPS CAMPERS AGES 3 BY SEPT 1, 2019 ‒ ENTERING GRADE 3 FALL 2019
Our amazing traditional camps allow our youngest campers the ability to try everything camp has to offer in age-appropriate ways. Traditional day campers will experience sports, movement, gymnastics, arts & crafts and so much more. Campers will participate in special events, dress up days and all camp programs. Traditional Camp is the best way to introduce campers to Day Camp!
INSTRUCTIONAL SWIM
We provide all campers in our traditional camps with a quality instructional swim experience. The foundation of our program is based on the principles and methods that promote water safety and teach our campers how to swim. Our program is level based where each camper must complete each skill in their current level before moving on to the next one. Digital report cards will be sent home three times during a 4-week session: after the initial evaluation, half way through the session and at the end of the session to update you on your child's progress. For our more advanced swimmers, instructional swim is designed to prepare campers to pass the swim test that is required to use the slide, diving board and rock wall. For more information regarding instructional swim during camp or any of our year–round swim classes, swim team or adult swim exercise program, please contact Aquatics Director Lee Hutchens at lhutchens@erjcchouston.org or 713.595.8193. *There is no Instructional Swim during pre-camp or post camp.
