NUTRITION AND DINING
MIDDLE SCHOOL RESOURCE GUIDE
At Dexter Southfield, we are committed to providing your child with a quality school dining experience through a healthy, delicious, interactive, and enjoyable lunch and snack program. Our philosophy centers on offering simplified options with high-quality ingredients that allow children to be more engaged with their food choices. Dexter Southfield’s food service provider is SAGE Dining Services, and together we design meals (using locally sourced foods when possible) with a focus on simplicity, seasonality, and freshness.
Our school nurses, family physicians, parents, and dining services team work together to meet the needs of children with food allergies as practically as possible so that plentiful snack and lunch choices are available to all children. Dexter Southfield is a nut-free campus.
Your child will have an assigned seat at lunch, which rotates regularly during the school year and includes outdoor seating options, weather permitting. Faculty members, including advisors and homeroom teachers, are integrated into the rotating table assignments. This ensures that no child will ever be without a place to eat lunch. Throughout the year, your child will also have the opportunity to take on leadership positions at lunch.
Options available during middle school lunch include salads, sandwiches, pasta, soup, a vegetarian option, and a main meal. Yogurt, apples, and bananas are always available, and additional fruit and dessert options are offered daily. Links to daily menus are located in the “Student Life” area of the Dexter Southfield website.
