My idea of creating digital art follows a process, where I create and collect moodboards and references to start with ideation. After conceptualizing and sketching iterations, I proceed to create my digital artwork.

CREATING ENVIRONMENTS AND CHARACTERS

Additionally, I follow my passion for creating environments and characters with the goal of seamlessly blending these elements. I experiment with different styles in creating art to find my unique artistic style.

PABUJI: AN ANCIENT FOLKTALE

A SHORT ANIMATION FILM

I worked on my final year industry sponsored project with the Folklog studio. I further worked on it independently since I was very inspired by the traditional Rajasthani storytelling technique called ‘Phad’ which is still practiced by artisans and has its own unique format and visual language.

Independent Project | Duration: 2 Months

PRE-PRODUCTION & PLANNING

Pabuji, an ancient musical folktale from India’s Rajasthan region was narrated in the local dialect called ‘Marwadi’. Since I was unfamiliar with the language I started with first decoding the story. I then brokedown the story sequentially and created a storyboard with the key frames. I also fgured out my treatment by creating a short animatics before finally making the film digitally.

A SHORT ANIMATION FILM THE FREAKY FALL

The brief was to create a short animation after having explored the various animation techniques in studio and choosing the one that works best in the chosen context. I wrote the plot and a storyline was formed and sketches were made for the story. A rough outline of the animation was made in the form of a storyboard. Characters were designed and assets were created to be used in the animation. The duration of the animated movie was limited to one minute.

DIGITAL STORYTELLING BINDU

The brief was to create, synthesize and narrate stories that are structured for various kinds of audiences. I started this project with a reflection on my college trip to Khajuraho, what I had learned, observed and absorbed from it.

Academic Project | Duration: 2 Months

On my excursion to Khajuraho, the land of deities and temples, holding several mysteries, was quite a place to explore.

I visited the different temples there and came to know about the ancient stories of the past, which was indeed intriguing, and inspired me to create a story of my own.

I created my own story by recollecting the experiences I had gathered from my trip and further translated it into a storyboard.

ITERATING VISUALS AND CREATING CHARACTERS

I have designed most of the characters in silhouette so that the viewer can visualize himself/herself in the story to have a real-life experience. The story keeps changing its styles with characters to show how reality changes and takes form of imagination.

Exploring Styles

Figuring out different ways of storytelling. Sketching out visuals from the places visited.

VISUAL STORYTELLING THE ROOM

The brief was molded to create a visual story that represents a mystical brain of a boy going places in his mind, which happens to be his room.

Academic Project | Duration: 2 Months

Doors

Doors were used as a metaphor which depict feelings, thoughts and experiences that framed my creativity.

FOLKLOG FILM FESTIVAL

BRAND DESIGN

I worked on my final year industry sponsored project with the Folklog studio. This was a pilot project which aimed to revive the old folk art forms wherein folk artists from India and the UK came together to tell different stories by showcasing their special forms of folk art. The brief of the project was to do event branding and build a promotional campaign for the event.

Graduation & Industry Project | Duration: 4 Months

LOGO ITERATIONS

Patterns of FLIF were made from tessellations of its brand logo. It’s a repetition of one single unit.

I dove deeper into the stories and art forms used by the artists to create these visual elements. As it was a cross cultural connect, these artforms were fused together to create a new visual element. It was challenging to show fusing elements of different cultures as visual artforms were heavy which was overpowering with the infusion of artistic elements of other artforms.

FINAL LOGO DESIGN

EVENT POSTERS

Each poster represents a folk story which was presented during the event to show the inclusive folk culture. It represented an idea of connecting different cultures.

FONT DESIGN SUBGRAFFICA

Based on the context of Beirut, I had to create a font by incorporating my own research and creative findings to develop a concept which reflected in the outcome.

Academic Project | Duration: 2 Months

Thoughts on Context;

1. City Shaping

2. Graffiti

3. History: Medium of expression

4. Architecture

Creating a moodboard really helped me in coming up with a concept for the typeface. Inspiration has been taken from graffiti on the walls of Beirut. *Images were used as references to create moodboard

CONCEPT IDEATION

I took inspiration from graffiti and strokes of calligraphy. I used graffiti styled characteristics and strokes of calligraphy. I have integrated history and culture, and have used this as a medium of expression

SUBGRAFFICA

My inspiration was subways and street art. The name subgraffica was chosen by combining subway and graffiti.

The type specimen to be created showcased its play with texts, usage, application that depicted the strengths and limitations of the typeface.

GRAPHIC DESIGN WALL GRAPHICS

During my internship project, I worked on a brief which was to create wall graphics for the hotel based in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India whose floors were divided into various themes such as movies, music, sports, London, etc. The speciality for the hotel was that each floor had a specific theme that was followed for the walls in order to create a unique surrounding with an ambience aiming to keep the visitors engaged.
