The Flagstaff Notes

A higher than usual number of houses appear to be for sale in the vicinity of the proposed Ryman Healthcare retirement village proposed for Ngataringa Rd. A survey last week of Devonport properties for sale on the Real Estate New Zealand website showed six houses near the village site on the market: 82/2 Ngataringa Rd, 3a Wesley Rd, 24 Ngataringa Rd, 42 Ngataringa Rd, 34 Ngataringa Rd, and 40 Ngataringa Rd. There has been a steady number of sales in this area over recent months. Obviously not all the sales would be due to the impending village, but three years of construction, noise and disruption to traffic would have a huge bearing on some residents’ decisions to sell.
I have done the Coast to Coast walk twice – taking in Mt Eden (no cars) and One Tree Hill (cars by the bucketload zooming to the top). The contrast is marked. I would encourage anyone who has an opinion about vehicle access to the top of the Maunga to compare the two. It may alter a few views. The notion that car is king has shaped Auckland’s planning decisions for decades. Times are changing as the realisation that more cars create more congestion hits home. Cars aren’t welcome everywhere, They’re not on beaches or parks. It’s time they are not on our mountains either.
An eagle-eyed reader has spotted another misspelt local street sign. However this time it is not Auckland Council’s fault. Mozeley Avenue has been spelt wrong since Devonport Borough Council signs were changed over to North Shore City Council. The misspelling has been continued by Auckland Council. Mozley Avenue was formerly Albert Road and renamed prior to 1909. It was named after Robert Adam Mozley Stark, a developer. The There has been considerable local recent street sign spelling mistake was Jim opposition to the Maunga Authority plans Titcherner Parade – it should be Titchener. to allow unrestricted vehicle access to Mt Victoria. Well I cannot believe another year has almost passed. Where did 2016 go? Although I do not want the year to go as quickly as it has, I have to say that I am looking forward to year end and having the change of routine that the summer holidays bring. Swims and picnics at the beach, catching up with family and friends and not having to make lunch boxes for six weeks! I hope you all have a restful and enjoyable Christmas and New Year too. I would also like to say a big THANK YOU to you all for your support throughout the year.
