TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Institute for Clinical Social Work, Chicago, IL Sep 2023 to Present Faculty
• Teach multiple sections of a course titled Psychodynamic Perspectives on Difference II: Gender and Sexuality to doctoral students. This course introduces students to critical concepts within psychoanalytic theories of gender and sexuality, including Oedipus (e.g., authority, desire, identification, and disidentification), critiques of Freud, etc., and substantive use of his ideas (e.g., Judith Butler) to understand the construction of gender/sexual identity and defenses against them. Special attention and focus in my course is also given to transgender identities and experience, especially in childhood and caregiving contexts.
• Teach a course titled Human Growth and Development to master’s-level students. This course is required for licensure in the state of IL. We cover fundamental theories of human development within psychoanalysis and attachment theory using case material, film, and both primary and secondary texts.
• Teach a course titled Fundamentals of Psychoanalytic Theory to master’s-level students. This course is required for licensure in the state of IL. We cover Freud, Ego
Psychology, the British and American schools of object relations, self psychology, and relational psychoanalysis using case material, film, and both primary and secondary texts.
Center for Religion and Psychotherapy of Chicago, Chicago, IL Oct 2014 to Present Faculty, Education Program in Self Psychology and Religion
• Teach multiple sections of a course titled Professional, Ethical, and Legal Issues in Counseling to graduate students (both PhD and master’s-level) seeking licensure. The course follows the American Counseling Association’s Code of Ethics, especially as it relates to Illinois State law. Issues covered include: the psychotherapy relationship, informed consent, professional boundaries, confidentiality, civil liability, HIPAA law, duties to warn/report, documentation of clinical procedure, and so on. This course encourages students to reflect on the complexities of these principles as they resonate with issues from within the body of their clinical work, as well as to refine their respective, professional identities and self-conceptions.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES & NOTABLE EVENTS
The God and Gays Therapy Project, Chicago, IL Oct 2015 to Jul 2017 Organizer
I organized the GGTP by mobilizing clinicians, clergy, and performance artists from within the Chicago area (and sometimes beyond) to create forums for change and development among queer people of faith in the Chicagoland area. Our primary mission was to build and fortify the emotional/spiritual strength and dignity of people ‘of faith’ who identified as LGBTQAI+ via group work and retreats. The clinical focus included: (a) identifying and helping to facilitate transitions of coming out, working through, etc., and (b) developing a greater capacity for affect regulation and emotional health, overall.
Chicago Chapter of Affirmation International, Chicago, IL Aug 2011 to Jun 2013 Director
Affirmation creates worldwide communities of safety, love, and hope and promotes understanding, acceptance and self-determination of individuals of diverse sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions. They are dedicated to affirming the inherent
self-worth of LGBTQIA+ individuals as complete, equal, and valuable persons and support them as they define their individual spirituality and intersection with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (see www.affirmation.org/about). I was invited to lead the Chicago chapter of Affirmation and used my leadership and clinical experience to host a series of dialogues between queer Mormon folks and church leaders in the Chicagoland area. I also organized and spearheaded several social events, including participation in Chicago Pride.
Since Psychopathia Sexualis, New York, NY July 2009
I wrote a full-length play that was produced at the 2009 “Fresh Fruit Festival” in New York City at the UCB Theater (307 W. 26th St.). I used the play to explore the social and psychological effects of gender/sexual norms between men since Kraft-Ebbing published his infamous monograph in the late nineteenth century, establishing the clinical term “homosexual.”
INTERESTS/HOBBIES
From Jan-Dec 1999, I enrolled at Berklee College of Music, where I studied film scoring and vocal performance. I enjoy a variety of creative projects, writing, singing, and music composition.
I also participated in a ten-day vipassana meditation course in the summer of 2014, and continue to make use of what I’ve learned from this experience in practicing meditation regularly.
I currently run a reading group for queer men through the Body Electric School. We meet once a month to discuss seminal works of literature and film within the LGBTQ+ movement. Examples of works include Maurice, A Single Man, Angels in America, etc.
My husband and I currently live in Chicago, IL.
