roseherte (original version 2007-2008) was written for the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and Micha Hamel, commissioned by the Nederlandse Muziekdagen, with financial support from the Nederlands Fonds voor de Podiumkunsten.
Roseherte borrows its name from the Middle Dutch mythical animal that lives in the depths of the heart. As Jochem Valkenburg has described it (NRC, 10/11/2008), "roseherte starts off with a refined play of sound color [...], followed by a striking passage where sound vortexes expand from around a more melodic core, like circles on water."
