Swimmers ready to prove themselves once again

Swim and Dive focused on the future, not the past

The Catholic Central swimming team was heartbroken when they had to end their season last year.

They had worked tirelessly to put themselves in a position to win a state title before Covid-19 snatched it away from them. They were devastated; however, the team has persisted and moved forward.

“Working so hard the last three years to put our team in a winning position definitely made the end of last season hurt a lot more,” said senior captain Matthew Kozma, “and it is still devastating, but we can’t change the past.”

“Our team is still motivated and ready to give it our all this year.”

This season, the swimming team has trained vigorously to regain their position under unprecedented conditions and has rapidly adapted to new rules and logistical challenges.

They are starting swimmers on both ends of the pool, they are wearing masks while not actively participating, and they are swimming in smaller groups.

The swimmers have already clinched stunning victories against Brother Rice and U of D Jesuit and are prepared to win more.

The swimming team has faced disappointment and adversity and have come out better from it.

Now, the team once again stands poised to make a run at the state title, despite facing steep competition from Cranbrook and Father Gabriel Richard.

Father Kauffman leads the swimmers in prayer before a meet.
