CC Memories - Where Did The Years Go?

Alumni Reminisce on School Days Gone By

WHERE DID THE YEARS GO?

Don Jablonski, D.O., F.A.O.D.M.E., F.A.C.O.F.P ‘61

I am 78 and retired this year. Some of my most rewarding years were at 6565 West Outer Drive. I was a “band boy” which really made the CC experience even better at pep rallies, football and basketball games, and of course, our concerts. I not only received a great foundation for college, but also had fun along the way.

After CC, I attended Assumption University (University of Windsor). I graduated with a BSc in Biology/Chemistry. With my degree, I pursued a career in medical sales and, eventually, became a Regional Sales Manager for Alcon’s Surgical Products Division.

At the age of 30, I decided to apply to medical school. It took two years of preparation, and I finally started my education in 1976 and graduated in 1980. I have practiced Family Medicine for over 40 years, and being a family doctor was almost as enjoyable as being a student at CC!

Career accomplishments include: President of two state Medical Associations; Director of Medical Education, supervising Internship and Family Medicine training; Associate Professor of Family Medicine at Ohio University; Physician of the Year (for the United States) in 2004 awarded by the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians; first Osteopathic Physician on the North Carolina Medical Board in its 150 years; elected President of the Board in 2010 after serving six years; finally, six medical mission trips to Honduras.

I have been blessed and thank the LORD every day for leading me throughout my life. God Bless CC and those who instilled in me Goodness, Discipline, and Knowledge.
