DENNIS TYMOSKO (OD) After graduating from Catholic Central in 1958, I never imagined that I would one day return as a faculty member. With the help of Fr. Norbert Clemens, C.S.B. I was hired in 1964 by Fr. William Gibbons, C.S.B. as an English teacher and freshman football coach. During my nine years at CC, I also taught Religion, coached some basketball, became a guidance counselor, disciplinarian, and finally was appointed the first lay athletic director, succeeding Fr. Joseph Barnes, C.S.B. I was even the Head Wrestling “Coach” for one season, but quickly recognized my limitations and convinced Mike Rodriguez to leave River Rouge High and join the staff at CC. I then went back to what I did best to support the wrestling team and drove the bus. Bus driving was the only area where my performance at CC exceeded those of my life-long friend, Bob Santello. I am also proud to have hired Bernie Holowicki as Basketball Coach and Tony Magni as the Track and Cross Country Coach. One of my regrets is having left CC before seeing all of Tony’s successes. My years at CC were some of the most memorable of my life. Many members of the class of ’58 attended Patty’s and my wedding, and the Glee Club sang at our wedding Mass. Thank you, Basilian Fathers, fellow teachers, and men of CC for all the memories. I have lived in Miami Lakes, Florida since 1977. I am retired and enjoy my family, my grandkids, and spending time on the golf course.
MIRZA BEG (BD) I taught Mathematics at Catholic Central from 1984 to 2000. During my stay, I immensely enjoyed working with CC students. From the very beginning, I became a special part of the Boys’ Bowl assemblies with my ‘international cheers.’ The reason I left CC in 2000 was that I became the Principal of Huda School in Franklin, Michigan. After four years there, our family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2004, mainly because my wife, Priscilla, could not tolerate the harsh Michigan winters, although she was originally from Port Huron! Unfortunately, she passed away in December 2011 after a long battle with her medical problems. My daughter, Meredith, is serving in the US Air Force as a major. She began working at the Pentagon starting in June 2014. My son Zeshawn ’01, a CC graduate, is finishing his Ph.D. this year at Harvard. Zeshawn and his wife have a wonderful three-year-old daughter and had a son in May. After working for seven years at Charlotte-Meclenburg Schools, I retired in 2010. Presently, I teach math at a community school in Charlotte to keep myself busy. I also teach a STEM class at University of North Carolina at Charlotte. In addition, I run the Sunday school for our community. Recently, I was invited [for a visit] by my former students in Pakistan (class of 1968). They honored me for “extraordinary services” to their school. The only message I can give to the CC students is to ‘keep up the good work.’ I learned a lot from CC and I continually use that in my everyday life as well as my work. I try to inspire my students by examples from CC.
