Melbourne Visitor Booth in the Bourke Street Mall

Friendly volunteers at the Melbourne Visitor Booth provide free maps and information on shopping, attractions and events in Melbourne. Open daily from 9am to 5pm (closed Good Friday and Christmas Day).

City Ambassadors

Dressed in their distinctive red uniforms, City Ambassadors provide a mobile information service in the city with information on shopping, events and how to get around. Monday to Saturday 10am to 4pm, Sunday noon to 3pm (excluding Good Friday and Christmas Day).

Melbourne Greeter Service

Free multilingual walking orientations of the city, conducted by trained volunteers. Orientations are conducted in English daily at 9.30am from the Melbourne Visitor Centre at Federation Square (excluding Good Friday and Christmas Day). Bookings are essential, phone 9658 9658 on weekdays and 9658 9942 on weekends or visit melbourne.vic.gov.au/greeter.

Melbourne Visitor Shuttle

The shuttle is an easy way to see many of Melbourne’s attractions. Hop on and hop off at any of the 13 stops along the route. A round trip takes approximately 90 minutes and includes an informative on-board audio commentary. Operates daily every 30 minutes from 9.30am to 4.30pm (excluding Christmas Day).

Public Transport in Melbourne Melbourne’s trains, trams and buses are an easy way to visit the city’s best attractions, sporting venues and shopping precincts. Metropolitan trains and trams run 5am to midnight Monday to Thursday, with extended hours to around 1am on Friday and Saturday nights. On Sunday, trains and trams operate from 7am to 11pm. Many of Melbourne’s bus routes run 6am to 9pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 9pm Saturday and 9am to 9pm Sunday.

Tickets

myki is Melbourne’s ticketing system. Public transport is simple to use in Melbourne as your ticket gives you the flexibility to travel on trains, trams and buses all around Melbourne. You can buy and top up a myki at: • all metropolitan Premium Stations, myki machines (full fare card sales only) located at all metropolitan train stations and selected accessible tram stops and bus interchanges. • any 7-Eleven store or independent retailer where you see the myki sign. • the PTV Hub at Southern Cross Station. Remember to touch on and off your myki each time you travel. Travelling without a valid ticket could lead to a fine.

Zones

Fares for travelling on Melbourne’s trains, trams and buses are separated into two zones: Zone 1 for inner-city and Zone 2 for the middle and outer suburbs. Use the public transport maps to check what zones you are planning to visit and make sure you have enough value on your myki to cover your entire journey.

The shuttle is an easy way to see many of Melbourne’s attractions. Hop on and hop off at any of the 13 stops along the route.
