DeSoto Corner Theatre For information on upcoming performances, contact 972-230-4288.

The Corner Theatre has become the home for local community theater companies and is also available to rent as a conference facility for business, community, or neighborhood groups on a space-available basis. • To be considered, it is recommended that theater companies submit a complete history of their organization including past performances and a detailed explanation of the proposed program or production. • The proposed program or performance must display quality, originality and imagination. • Proposals for use of the Corner Theatre will be accepted from new and established arts organizations. • The applying organization must provide documentation of current 501(c) 3 Non Profit Status or a pending application. • The applying organization must adhere to the mission statement of the Corner Theatre.

Corner Theatre Mission

The mission of the Corner Theatre is to create opportunities for community participation in enriching theatrical experiences. The focus is on inclusion, quality, and providing a well-balanced theatrical season of events. Membership Requirements Membership to the Recreation Center is open to users who are residents of the City of DeSoto. A photo I.D. and two forms showing proof of residency are required to apply for a new membership; and one form of residency is required for renewals (Photocopies will not be accepted).

• A valid driver’s license or identification card issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety showing the DeSoto address of that person. • A current utility (gas, electric, water) showing the DeSoto address of that person. • A current lease or mortgage showing the DeSoto address of that person. • A current voter’s registration card showing the DeSoto address of that person. • A current auto insurance card showing the DeSoto address of that person.

Non - Residents Non-residents who work for a business in the City of DeSoto may get a membership pass with photo I.D. and a current business pay check showing that the person is an employee of a business in DeSoto. However, the spouse and children of the employee are unable to obtain a membership.

Basketball Gyms 1. No dunking. Do not grab the rims or nets. 2. Half court play is allowed. Full court play is only allowed with permission from the recreation supervisor. 3. Organized practices are not allowed unless the gym space has been rented through the recreation supervisor. Fitness Room 1. Participants 16 years and older with a fitness pass are allowed in the fitness room. 2. Water in closable bottle may be brought in the fitness room. 3. All weights must be returned to the racks when finished being used. Do not take weights out of fitness room. Do not drop weights on floor. 4. Wipe off the equipment with a towel after each use. 5. Do not open the door for anyone trying to get into the fitness room. Jogging/Walking Track (12 laps = 1 mile) 1. Participants 15 years and older are allowed on the track. 2. All users must travel in the same direction as indicated. 3. Walking or jogging side by side with another person is not allowed. 4. Standing on the track is not allowed.

Center Rules & Policies 1. A valid membership pass is required to use the recreation center facilities. Participants must scan their pass at the Control Center to gain entry into the gym, track, racquetball courts and/or fitness room. All guests must pay for a day pass to access these facilities. Using another participant’s pass to gain access is prohibited. 2. Youth under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Youth may not enter the center until 3:00 p.m. when schools are in session. 3. All clothing attire must be worn appropriately. Shirts and pants must be worn at all times. Non-marking athletic shoes are allowed. Shorts and pants must not be sagging. 4. Food, gum or drinks are not allowed in the gym, track, racquetball courts and fitness room. 5. Alcoholic beverages, smoking and tobacco products are not allowed in recreation center. 6. No running or horseplay in the hallways. 7. Profanity or vulgar language is not allowed. 8. No pets allowed. 9. Boom boxes or large radios are not allowed. Personal radios with headphones are acceptable.

Youth Programs

A variety of classes and programs are available for all ages and areas of interest. A registration fee must be paid in full before attending any class. Some classes may require extra fees and supplies. Some of the classes have a minimum and maximum number of participants. Pre-registration is highly recommended. Any class marked with this symbol , is available for online registration is also available. Call the recreation center to receive your account personal identification number.

Aikia Karate This class will teach children ways to channel their energy in a positive way, self discipline, respect for others, selfdefense, improved memory skills and physical conditioning. Combined styles of American Kenpo and American Tae Kwon Do are emphasized in this class. Master Lloyd Ploeger is the class instructor. For more information, call (972) 217-6363. If the minimum is not met within 48 hours of the class start date, then the class is subject to cancellation. If a class is cancelled, then the participant may request to transfer to another class or receive a refund check by mail. Participants will be notified of any classes that have been canceled or rescheduled. In the event that a participant wants to withdraw from a class, he or she must complete a refund request form prior to the second class meeting to get a full refund or a transfer. No refunds or transfers will be given after the second class meeting has started. Refund requests must be processed and a refund check will be mailed to the main contact.

Ballet Ballet is designed as a program to address a child’s developmental needs and create a fun dance experience. This course establishes basic ballet technique, alignment, physical development as well as stretching and strengthening. DeSoto Senior Activity Center Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Phone: (972) 230-5825 204 Lion Street, DeSoto, TX 75115 Overview Everyone, age 50 and over, is welcome at the Desoto Senior Center, where active seniors of today can participate in a variety of activities. The center provides many recreational and social opportunities; the congregant meal program, blood pressure screenings, games, dances, entertainment, travel, exercise, cultural events, volunteer opportunities, nutrition and health education. A free activity calendar is available the last week of each month, providing information about planned activities, trips and events plus the meal menu for upcoming month.

Health & Fitness A fitness area is available to members and includes: • Two treadmills • A stationary bike • Weight machines Education and health screenings are presented monthly. Check the monthly calendar for times and dates.

Transportation Transportation to and from the center is available to DeSoto Residents 50 years or older living in the DeSoto City limits. For more information or to schedule pickup, call 972-230-5825 between 7:00am and 7:30am daily.

PAVILIONS

The pavilions are available to DeSoto residents, non-profit organizations, and businesses as well as nonresidents. Pavilions are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. You can start booking your reservation on January 1 through October 31. Please call 972-230-9650 to check availability or for more information. Pavilions are rented in a five hour time block or all day. Cleaning the Facility: The reserving party is responsible for cleaning the facility. The Parks and Recreation Department may not be able to clean pavilions between reservations. Tables and immediate grounds must be cleared of litter at the conclusion of the reservation period. Bounce Houses: Bounce houses are allowed in city parks; however, the bounce house vendor must provide a generator with all bounce house rentals. Grills: Grills are not allowed. Please note that there is a $50 refundable deposit in addition to rental rates. All payment is due in full for Pavilion rentals. Park
