4 MARCH 2022

NEWS FROM LUCKLEY HOUSE SCHOOL

WORLD BOOK DAY As always, we have thoroughly enjoyed celebrating World Book Day at Luckley, offering students the opportunity to participate in a range of competitions as well as taking the time to reflect and consider the impact which books have on us. The House Book Quiz, held at lunchtime on Wednesday was a great success – winners to be announced in assembly – and the “Literary Pairs” competition provided students with a lot of fun trying to track down the elusive characters pinned on various members of staff. The highlight of the week, the Literary Cakes competition revealed a lot of hidden creative cake decorating talent amongst our wonderful students and we look forward to awarding prizes to a number of these.

DRAGONS DEN

MARATHON PB FOR SAM

Following the Life Skills session on entrepreneurship, 8L put into practice their new found knowledge. The pupils created their own products and then pitched to Miss Phillips and Mr Cass, with the hope that they would ‘invest’. From new computer software to mood changing water bottles and sustainable camp fire gadgets, their ideas were second to none. Through careful consideration the ‘dragons’ had to think about whether their products were sustainable, ethical, profitable and of course usable, not forgetting the quality of their pitch. After a tough decision, the winners were Willow, Zain, Sienna, Darcey, Libby and Evie.

The Girls I’ve Been by Tess Sharpe This is one of the best teen thrillers I’ve read in a long time and it gripped me from beginning to end.

'The Wokingham Half Marathon was a

brilliant way to end my half term and kick off this term. The brand-new course and my training for it brought excitement and I was determined to get a personal best. The course was challenging with some very long uphills and the straight mile which felt much longer than a mile! I had been motivated in my training by the Royal Marines, and this race proved no different. I achieved a PB time of 1:38:55, which I am very happy with, and look to take this confidence into the next event, whatever that may be. Sam W, Head Student
