NEWS FROM LUCKLEY HOUSE SCHOOL
JEKYLL AND HYDE AT THE THEATRE Drama students had a treat last week as The Whitty Theatre hosted The Blackeyed Theatre company, with their chilling performance of ‘The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’. This was an excellent opportunity for English students to see a set text in action and for those interested in drama to see a professional company perform in our own theatre. Watch this space for the next production of ‘Broke’ with ‘The Paper Birds’ on 16 February. Esther Brown, Director of Drama
LUCKLEY LECTURES
YEAR 7 & 8 £10 CHALLENGE
We enjoyed a truly inspirational talk by Mountaineer, Simon Yates at The Whitty Theatre this week. The next event in our fantastic Luckley Lectures programme is Matt Dickinson on Monday 7 March.
The Business and Economics department is running the £10 challenge for Year 7 & 8 pupils this term. The pupils will be supported by the department to plan, organise and launch their businesses whilst allowing them the freedom and independence to explore their inner entrepreneur. Form tutors have handed out letters and we hope that lots of pupils will sign up.
LUCKLEY LIBRARY LOVES... The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes A very dramatic and engaging story, a sort of modern-day Cinderella in some aspects, but with a lot of dark twists and turns. The main character, a 17-year-old girl who basically lives in her battered old car following the death of her mother, suddenly finds herself thrust into the limelight as she inherits a fortune left to her by an eccentric billionaire. Whilst that might sound amazing, she has no idea who he is or why he has left everything to her...and his family are not too happy about that fact either, which makes for a very tense situation. The mystery of why she was left the money becomes the focus of much of the novel. Absolutely gripping, I couldn’t put it down! Recommended for Year 9 up. Darshan Bahbra, Head of English
