‘WICKED’ MUSICAL TRIP On Tuesday evening we took the Music GCSE and A level students and Music Scholars to see the fabulous West End production of Wicked. Defying Gravity, the song that ends act one, is one of the set works for Music GCSE. Highlights include: 33 amazing seats, a wonderful cast, the music and live orchestra, the costumes, the dancing and the set design; the moving dragon was phenomenal! I think the students would agree it was great to be back in a theatre watching a live performance, which received a thundering standing ovation and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. LUCKLEY LIBRARY LOVES... When the Sky Falls by Phil Earle Joseph is a troubled boy. He’s full of anger, finds school difficult, and constantly flouts rules. It’s 1941, his father has gone to fight and his grandmother can no longer cope with looking after him so sends him to live with a friend, Mrs F. Living in a strange city with nightly air raids and being bullied in his new school, Joseph continues to struggle. Working at the zoo, which is owned by Mrs F, becomes the only positive thing in his life, in particular his growing admiration of the great silverback gorilla he helps care for. As the story unfolds we see Joseph learn some important life lessons. This is a touching story with moments of drama which has an important message about the healing power of animals.
