NEWS FROM LUCKLEY HOUSE SCHOOL
CHILDREN’S MENTAL HEALTH WEEK
LUCKLEY HOUSE IN LIGHTS
This week is Children’s Mental Health Week. Luckley Library stocks an excellent selection of non-fiction and fiction titles available to borrow encompassing the themes of mental health and wellbeing. We encourage our pupils to visit us or browse and reserve online. The librarians are always very happy to assist with any books on specific topics. A reminder too that the library is available for reading or study at break and lunchtimes for any pupils seeking a quiet space.
COME TO THE THEATRE! Following the fabulous performance of ‘The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’, performed in The Whitty Theatre to pupils in Year 9 and above, the Drama Department is now pleased to release a further two productions which we strongly recommend:
We are delighted with the new signage at the entrance to the School.
The Paper Birds will perform ‘Broke’ next Wednesday 16 February. Anyone is welcome to attend in Year 8 upwards. Booking is via Ticket Source.
LUCKLEY LIBRARY LOVES...
After half term, Splendid Productions will perform UBU on Thursday 3 March. All are welcome to attend this. Booking is via Ticket Source.
Becoming (adapted for younger readers) by Michelle Obama
Despite many Covid restrictions and illness over the past few weeks we are pleased that rehearsals for this year’s musical ‘The Wizard of Oz’ are back underway. Despite being behind schedule, we are very much looking forward to putting on another brilliant show. Ticket source bookings for this have also gone live this week and we would encourage you to book early to avoid disappointment. If you are a parent of a child taking part in the show, please do remember the importance of attendance at all rehearsals. We are rehearsing during the final weekend of half term (26 and 27 February 10am - 4pm). These are critical rehearsals following all the Covid disruption! Do look out for an email confirming all rehearsal times.

This autobiography from the former First Lady is slightly simplified for a younger audience. Michelle Obama shares her very personal journey from her humble beginnings, living in the upstairs of her Great Aunt’s house in a small suburb of Chicago right up to becoming one of the most recognised women in the world, married to the President of the USA, living in the White House and even meeting the Queen. Her family were poor but her parents scarified a lot and raised her with love, support and encouragement to make the most of her education. Her strong values, work ethic and dedication to public service shine through in this truly inspirational book. Recommended for Year 7 up. Rachel Maskelyn, Senior Librarian
