Parent giving enabled 8 students to travel to Washington D.C. and experience participating in the March for Life

GIVING SUPPORTS THE FORMATION OF WELL-ROUNDED STUDENTS
Baseball played a key role in the life of Spencer ’18 and Jackson Daesch ’20. The Daesch Family donation to the baseball program celebrates the sport and helps to enable a strong baseball program for current and future Spartans.

“
We give because we believe that De Smet Jesuit provides an excellent learning atmosphere: caring and competent educators who focus intensely not only on academics, but also on the personal development and spiritual growth of each student. The De Smet Jesuit experience builds a solid foundation academically, personally, and spiritually, so that every student can achieve his full potential as a man for others who is equipped to navigate and succeed in an increasingly challenging world.”

“My investment in De Smet Jesuit pays dividends — dividends that help build God’s kingdom. I can think of no better investment.”
$1 MILLION GIFT CATALYZES CAMPUS RENOVATIONS
In the fall of 2021, De Smet Jesuit received a $1 million gift from the estate of the late Greg Pohlman ’78 that became the catalyst for a classroom renovation project. Construction is underway to upgrade technology, flooring, and furniture in classrooms on the first floor. “We are beginning with core curriculum classrooms so that these renovations will have an immediate impact on every student,” said Principal Kevin Poelker ’98.
A portion of Mr. Pohlman's gift was used to complete a fully endowed scholarship in memory of Ann Beermann, a member of the advancement team and parent of Matthew ‘11 and David ‘15.
“Greg Pohlman epitomized what we hope each of our graduates will become,” said Steve Burr, De Smet’s CFO. “He was a man for others who set an example through selfless action.” Mr. Pohlman also gave of his time in numerous capacities, balancing his work as CEO of The Pohlman CPA Group, LLC, with two stints on the Board of Trustees. At the time of his passing in February 2021, he held the role of Board Chair.
“There is no significant aspect of my life — personal or professional — that De Smet Jesuit has not influenced to make me a better person,” he once shared when asked why he chose to give back to his alma mater. He believed his support of De Smet made a significant di erence in the lives of students and their families.
Mr. Pohlman’s support has — and will continue to — impact the lives of Spartans for generations to come.
