[ guiding principles ]

4

Our character and culture is defined by a set of principles that guide everything we do as a business and will remain at our core. Continuity with Initiative; a strong team ethic has always been fundamental across the business and provides continuity throughout contracts, with each individual encouraged to continually question and challenge, thinking resourcefully to bring about opportunities for improvement. Our flexible, can-do approach to construction - with safety as a top priority - provides sustainability and value across a wide range of clients’ needs beyond the core contract. Integrated Systems: built around SharePoint platform integrating intranet, content management, document and file management throughout the organisation providing secure access to HR; Contracts; Training; IMS; as well as a PQQ resource site, available on or off-site 24/7.

Investing in our people creates a highly motivated environment for the success of our customers; our business; and ultimately, job satisfaction

[ proven track record ]

6

As part of a unique value engineering process applied to all contracts, Advance Construction can offer advice at an early stage with a view to reducing costs, improving efficiency and minimising environmental impact. Our Site Engineers and Ground Modelling Team can quickly provide effective earthworks game plans using the latest instrumentation and software, allowing savings to be offered to our clients wherever possible. In addition, the company’s experienced in-house Engineers and Technical Managers continually look to introduce cost effective construction methods by providing efficient work practices and alternative material proposals. On site, a highly skilled and motivated workforce deliver a high level of services across the full gambit of civil engineering resources. Skilled Groundworkers and Plant Operatives, qualified, experienced Engineers and the support of a driven Management Team combine to grow our reputation as the partner of choice for our expanding customer base. [ environmental responsibility ]

8

Disposal of waste and remediation of contaminated earth can be a major issue in Construction projects both ďŹ nancially and environmentally.

Our extensive experience in groundworks and earthmoving means we are uniquely placed to advise and support in management of projects and equipment. Our unrivalled knowledge of, and training in, the UK’s increasingly demanding environmental and health & safety legislation has resulted in exemplary procedures for full traceability of material removed from the many sites and development of facilities which significantly increase our environmental credentials. Additionally, Advance Construction can provide specialist identification and approved treatment programmes for Japanese Knotweed with proven remediation strategies from our partners employing best practical environmental options (BPEO).

By identifying infestations of invasive weeds at the start of a project remediation costs can be minimised and the risk of spread can be managed more effectively to give better overall cost control.

[ increasing Quality runs through our dna]

10

Advance Construction Scotland is committed to providing the highest quality of service and work to all of its customers, and to achieve this goal, it is the established policy of the Company to operate a Quality Management System, which meets the requirements of ISO 9001:2008. The effectiveness of the quality system is monitored through internal audits, management reviews, control of corrective and preventive actions and customer satisfaction. Performance is monitored and policies and procedures revised, to pursue a programme of continuous improvement, as well as following a programme of Quality targets and objectives set and reviewed by management.

All employees are fully involved with the quality system and are encouraged to: Understand and satisfy the quality expectations of our customers. Help improve our quality procedures through suggestion and involvement

With a new eet of Tippers our ability to handle the demands for haulage and recycled products is greatly enhanced.

Allied to the construction plant facility, the company’s fleet of tipper lorries allows movement of soils and aggregates to be planned with confidence and transported efficiently. This plays a significant part in supporting the organisation’s waste management policy. Advance Construction has invested in a commitment to implementing an appropriate site waste management plan on each project through the re use of site-won materials, supply of quality recycled aggregates and topsoil, and by minimising disposal to conventional landfill where possible.

Everyone knows people are key to the success of a business. But not everyone follows up with a set of fundamental business principles to underpin that belief and leverage it to grow the business. The calibre of our people is the reason we are so successful today.

[ organising for Growth ]

At ACS we believe that by achieving business growth we are able to reach new heights in all aspects of our business: satisfying customers; delivering a high-quality product and service; achieving a low-cost position; building a team of motivated top performing employees, and – most importantly for long term development – making profit. Our focus has been to understand and implement a structure for the three key areas that support business growth: operations, organisation and strategy. Our aim is to master all of them in order to be truly leading class. The roots are firmly in place and our significant growth and success over the past few years has justified this belief to the benefit of all and we look forward to continuing this momentum.

PROJECTS

[ case study ]

Bonnyrigg

Client : Value : Programme :

Taylor Wimpey Developments £2.175m 22 weeks

Brief : The site, located in the Hopefield area of Bonnyrigg, included clearance; removal of trees and vegetation; open cut excavation and capping of 2 mineshafts beneath the proposed roads infrastructure; controlled replacement and compaction of previously excavated material. It also included: Controlled oversite structural cut & fill, tested and validated to Series 600 specification Installation of foul and surface water drainage infrastructure & Construction of 2 SUDS ponds Installation of 2no. controlled crossings, located both on site and off site and multi-utility infrastructure.

When dealing with Advance we are met with a very positive attitude and a willingness to work with us to overcome potential issues. From the senior management down to the operatives on site they are keen to assist whenever possible.

Off site traffic management and Construction of Distributor Road to final surface level Although there was no specific contractor design element on this particular contract, we endeavoured to make the development as cost efficient as possible for our client. This consisted of carrying out a comprehensive ‘Value Engineering’ exercise pre-contract award, minimising such items as the double handling of materials during the earthworks operation. It also entailed such elements as the recommendation of alternative materials, products and systems as potential savings. Throughout the contract itself, further savings were offered such as a 33% reduction in the total amount of reinforcement required for the construction of the mineshaft caps.

Helensburgh

Cruden Building & Renewals ÂŁ2.1m 20 months

Brief : The project was a new-build Social Housing Development located on a site previously occupied by a secondary school in the Hermitage area of Helensburgh. It also included: Civils and groundworks associated with the development of 50 houses and flats. Outfall sewer works and installation of a new roundabout accessing the site, constructed within a busy dual carriageway. Our value Engineering solutions amounted to Reduction in the extent of contamination removal and minimising the requirement for clean and inert subsoil capping as a result of undertaking additional trial pit excavation works and testing. Rationalisation of the outfall sewer layout to minimise traffic disruption and reduce timeframe and costs associated with working within the existing public roads. Level adjustments to minimise the extent of excavation within the existing dual carriageway and reduce the amount of public utility exposure and protection works required. Introduction of alternative, more cost efficient materials for the storm water attenuation tanks and pavings.

Armadale infrastructure

Client : Value : Programme :

Brownfield Regeneration £2m 25 weeks
