MENSAGEM DO CHEFE DE MISSÃO MESSAGE FROM CHEF DE MISSION
Pela primeira vez, vão ser organizados os Jogos Europeus. Um novo capítulo da história do desporto vai iniciar-se. Faremos parte dessa história! À semelhança do que já existe nos outros continentes, trata-se de uma competição multidesportiva entre atletas de toda a Europa, organizada pela entidade que reúne todos os Comités Olímpicos Nacionais deste nosso continente. Neles participarão, em 20 modalidades, olímpicas e não olímpicas, cerca de 10.000 atletas e oficiais em representação de 50 países. Não é uma missão fácil num ano com um calendário competitivo tão preenchido e em ano de apuramento olímpico. Ter os melhores atletas a competir nos Jogos Europeus é o objetivo dos Comités Olímpicos Europeus. O Comité Olímpico de Portugal lançou esse desafio às Federações Nacionais, que prontamente o aceitaram. Portugal vai apresentar-se com cerca de 100 dos seus melhores atletas, representando 14 modalidades e em quatro delas (o Ténis de Mesa, o Tiro, o Tiro com Armas de Caça e o Triatlo) disputarão o acesso direto aos Jogos Olímpicos Rio 2016. Se os Jogos Olímpicos são, se não o maior, um dos maiores desafios que enquanto atletas, enfrentarão, os Jogos Europeus serão certamente outra competição de relevo e estou plenamente convencido que estarão ao vosso melhor nível, fortemente focados na superação e em busca da glória do pódio. Não duvido da vossa ambição e sei que tudo farão para honrar os ideais olímpicos e Portugal. Enquanto Chefe de Missão, quero expressar-vos o meu apoio incondicional, a honra e o prazer que sinto em pertencer a esta Equipa, à nossa Equipa. Com o Espírito de Missão que caracteriza os atletas, treinadores, dirigentes e técnicos portugueses, a primeira edição dos Jogos Europeus Baku 2015 será uma referência histórica de sucesso para o Desporto Nacional.
For the first time the European Games will become real. A new chapter on the history of sport is about to be writen. Portugal will be part of that history! Has in other continents, this is a multisport competition between athletes from all around Europe, an event organized by the institution that unites all the National Olympic Committees in Europe, The European Olympic Committees (EOC). These Games will have 20 sports, Olympic and nonOlympic, about 10.000 athletes and team officials representing 50 countries. It is not an easy Mission in a year with such a full competitive calendar and when we are one year away from the Olympic Games Rio 2016, with most of the qualifiers taking place in 2015. Having the best athletes competing in the European Games is the EOC goal. The Portuguese Olympic Committee challenged his national federations to bring the best to Baku, a challenge accepted by all of them. Portugal will compete with about 100 of its finest athletes representing 14 sports and in three of them (Table Tennis, Shooting and Triathlon) will fight for the Olympic Games Rio 2016 qualification. If the Olympic Games are, if not the biggest, one of the major challenges they will defy as athletes, the European Games will for sure also be a thrilling contest and I’m fully convinced that all of our athletes will be in Baku at their best, focused in achieving great results and fighting to gain a medal. I don’t doubt their ambition and know they will do all they can to honor the Olympic values and our country, Portugal. As Chef de Mission, I want to express all my support to these athletes and the honor and pleasure I feel to be part of this team, Our Team. With the spirit of mission that our athletes, coaches, managers and medical team have, I’m sure that the Baku 2015 European Games first edition will be a success mark in the history of Portuguese sport.
