INNOVATION IMPERATIVES WHY
DESIGN THINKING?
Demand for rapid and systemic innovation, seen across all industry sectors, is driven by big forces: the needs of 10 billion future consumers, net zero, and ageing populations to name but three. Business is recasting itself fast in a new ESG-world to play a central role in transformative change for customers and employees.
Science and tech are part of the answer, but innovation is more than discovery. Innovation requires the real-time delivery of new value. That’s where Design Thinking comes in. It’s how we turn fresh ideas into reality around the needs of people. It’s how we democratise the practical power of design across our organisations.
Design Thinkers Academy London is there to support the individual innovator’s journey and to partner with companies seeking to shape internal culture and drive change. Whether you’re looking for an introduction to Design Thinking, you want to sharpen your best practice technical skills, or you’re now looking for the latest in next practice, take a look at our 2022–23 curriculum.

CASE STUDY
DESIGN THINKERS ACADEMY HELPED US AIM TO LIFT ONE MILLION PEOPLE OUT OF POVERTY
The YMCA is one of the world’s oldest youth charities. Lloyd Wamai is Programme Innovation and Management Executive at the Africa Alliance of YMCAs – he attended our Design Thinkers Bootcamp in 2019.
THE CHALLENGE
YMCA chapters in Africa had noticed fewer young people were accessing their services. ‘We were at risk of losing relevance.’
THE APPROACH
Lloyd and colleagues around Africa began researching by talking to young people about what their needs were. They started prototyping ideas from the insights they gained.
THE IMPACT
One prototype involved training up ten vulnerable young women in Ghana and giving eight of them $50 loans for their businesses. All eight paid back the YMCA. Now Lloyd is aiming to give training and microloans to one million disadvantaged people in 17 African countries in the next five years.

Leadership development
Our “5-Peak Strengths” innovation competency model, developed with top organisational psychologists, supports leadership development, including one-on-one coaching. Online tools include self-assessments and 360 diagnostics.

Bespoke programmes tailored to your company
When the requirement is highly specialised, we can adapt our existing modules or create a whole new course or programme to meet your needs. This might be for many reasons: integrating innovation methods with other technical or company processes; targeting specific business challenges; or branding training within an existing organisation-wide programme.
“Plug and Play” In-house courses for your team
If you have one or multiple cohorts you’d like to train in Design Thinking, our in-house courses can be delivered at times and dates to suit your organisation and with the added benefits of team-building and focused implementation conversations. You can choose from all the courses in this prospectus and more.
Toolkits and Playbooks
To achieve ongoing impact over time, methods and innovation toolkits must be up-to-date and integrated with other company processes. Alongside our training, we support clients to co-design and take ownership of their own Playbooks.
