Restructure Design

estructure Design is the perfect name for the local business that specializes in helping Hot Springs Village residents turn their older home or even their new home into their “dream home.” When Alissa Oats envisioned opening her own business, it was with the intent of offering a different experience to Hot Springs Village residents who wanted to “change up” the interior of their homes. With a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Fashion Design, Oats honed her interior design experience and knowledge in Little Rock before moving to Hot Springs Village and opening her own business in July, 2017. The HSV market intrigued her because of the diversity of the people living and moving here. Restructure Design is different because Alissa and her team take a project from concept to finished product.

DeSoto Family Recreation Area

he DeSoto Family Recreation Area is fun for all ages featuring playground equipment, mini golf, and basketball and pickleball courts. The play ground, mini golf, and basketball courts are available for use at no charge, but players must bring their own equipment. A covered picnic pavilion and charcoal grill are just behind the nearby DeSoto Multipurpose Hall and are available on a first come basis.

According to Alissa, customers often don’t know exactly what they want; they just know they don’t like what they have. Restructure Design’s team begins each project with a consultation–visiting the project site and talking about the scope of work and the customer’s vision for the project. From there, the customer’s next step is to visit the design center/ showroom. As a design/build business, with a complete design team and a construction team, Restructure Design can “take each client from concept to a finished product tailored to their specific lifestyle,” notes Oats. The Restructure Design center showcases a number of the prominent manufacturers of products including cabinets, countertops, and flooring. The goal is to show products that fit different visions and offer different price points to fit all budgets. To stay current with trends, materials, and styles, Oats attends the Kitchen and Bath Show in Las Vegas each February. As a designer, Oats’ goal is to give people their own unique design. She notes that Restructure Design “excels at not producing the same design over and over again.” Located at 127 McNeely Circle, Suite B, just off of Hwy 7 North, the Design Center is open Monday-Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Alissa suggests that appointments are best so that the correct team member can be available to help. For more information or to get inspired to make your home your dream home, contact Alissa at 501-781-0898 or alissa@restructureAR.com. Inspiration can be found on the website retructureAR.com.

Club Sports in Hot Springs Village

Club sports fans can play tennis, pickleball, bocce ball, lawn bowling, or softball in Hot Springs Village. Come explore North America’s largest gated community, Hot Spring Village, nestled in the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas. Call RE/MAX of HSV to schedule your com munity tour: 501-922-3777!

TENNIS The Coronado Tennis Center is a 13-court complex with USPTA Elite Tennis Professional, lounge, and pavilion. Ten of the center’s courts are clay, and the remaining three are hard surface. The Hot Springs Village Tennis Association, with nearly 400 members, offers league play at all levels including mixed leagues, women’s / men’s doubles, and, junior tennis. USTA Adult Leagues are encouraged.

BOCCE BALL The Bocce Ball courts are located across from the Coronado Community Center. The game of skill and concentration, rather than physical stamina, is fun and easy to learn. It is played on a flat surface (similar to a bowling lane) with the

object to position game balls as close as possible to the target ball (pallino). All equipment is provided by the Village Bocce Ball Club. SOFTBALL The Senior Softball League is open to men 50 years or older and women 35 years and older. The league plays two sessions each year: Spring (Apr. - Jun.) and Fall (Aug. - Nov.). The games are played on Thursday mornings at the Boys & Girls Club’s field off HWY 7. LAWN BOWLING The Village Green Bowls Club is active all year. Lawn bowling is a game with moderate exercise. The game is played on a green with a target ball and is similar to regular bowling. However, the balls weigh only two to three pounds and are less strenuous on the legs and back. The object of the game is to get balls near the target ball. The balls are biased so they are rolled left to right or right to left making lawn bowling a challenge.

PICKLEBALL Pickleball offers some serious opportunities for exercise, team play, and a whole lot of fun. What exactly is Pickleball you may ask? Similar to tennis, Pickleball is a fun sport for all ages and all levels of athletic ability. It is played by two or four players on a badminton-size court, with a slightly modified tennis net, using a perforated plastic ball, and wood or composite paddles. Experts estimate there are at least three million Pickleball players in the U.S. And more than 200 live in Hot Springs Village, according to the Hot Springs Village Pickleball Club. Give the game a swing today! For more information, go to HSVPickleball.org.

ocated in west-central Arkansas, Hot Springs Village is just minutes from historic Hot Springs and less than an hour from Little Rock. Inside the gated community, you’ll find ame nities like nine golf courses, 11 lakes, 30 plus miles of natural trails, a fitness center, tennis center, dog park, pickleball, lawn bowling, mini golf, three beaches, bocce ball, softball club, a performing arts center and much more with Lake Ouachita, Oaklawn Gaming & Racing, Magic Springs Theme Park, shopping, and spas nearby.

Newly Renovated Suites and Office Space

Now Available for Lease Just Outside Village Gate

illage Square of HSV, LLC, has commercial lease space available for immediate occupancy in the thriving Village Square Shopping Center. The center is located at 4501 North Highway 7 just outside the west gate of Hot Springs Village. It is positioned on the well-traveled N. Hwy. 7 corridor, long considered one of the 10 most scenic routes in the United States. Additionally, the shopping center is surrounded by well established and thriving businesses including a grocery store, restaurants, medical facilities, and retail and professional service providers. Occupants will enjoy a great location that provides excellent networking potential. Lease spaces range in size from 150 square feet—an ideal size for a remote worker, to over 1,400 square feet— well-suited for a busy professional office. Each space has been updated with fresh paint, updated finishes, new floor coverings, and energy efficient LED lighting. Take advantage of this opportunity to lease commercial space in great condition in the highly desirable and well-traveled Hot Springs Village area. Real estate professional and land developer, Michael D. Rogers, began development of Village Square Shopping Center in the late 1980s. Over a three-year period, Rogers made several offers to purchase the property outside the west gate of Hot Springs Village. In 1988, his persistence

paid off, and his offer was finally accepted. Construction on the existing buildings was completed by the late 1990s. From this modest beginning, Rogers went on to develop Village Plaza, Village South, Redfield Center, Greenbrier Center, and the upscale Hurricane Lake Estates subdivision in Benton, Arkansas. He is still active in real estate and land development in Northwest Arkansas. Denise Posey, Property Manager, Village Square of Hot Springs Village states that “Village Square of HSV is the perfect fit for nearly any kind of business or sole proprietor.” “We feature a variety of newly renovated lease spaces in a location with great accessibility to HSV and the surrounding community.” Lease space is available for immediate occupancy in all three Village Square locations —Professional Center, Rogers Building, and Rogers Plaza. Please call 501-204-5007 now. For more information, visit the website at VillageSquare HSV.com Follow us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ VillageSquareHSV/

Arkansas Surgical Hospital

ecently Arkansas Surgical Hospital was recognized as the only CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) double five-star rated hospital in the state, and only one of 19 double five-star rated hospitals in the nation. Located in North Little Rock, the hospital is a physician-owned facility, which means that the decisions made at all levels are patient-focused and made by practicing physicians who are on the front lines. Arkansas Surgical Hospital, a physi cian-owned facility, brings some significant advantages for patient’s care according to some studies on this type of facility. Doctors of physician-owned hospitals are deeply involved in the administration of the hospitals in which they invest. This can enhance their commitment to promoting excellent patient care. Beyond the quality of care, it has been suggested that when possible, physicians – owners and nonowners alike – tend to refer patients to physician-owned hospitals because these facilities can often offer tests and procedures at lower prices than

neighboring community hospitals. Consumer Reports Magazine reported that hospitals run by physicians have been shown to run more efficiently and have higher quality patient outcomes than those run by non-physicians or boards appointed by politicians and public entities. Arkansas Surgical Hospital takes great pride in patient’s, care while they are in the hospital. Some of the ways they accomplish this include having an infection rate of less than 0.5% com pared to the national average of 3%; a high nurse-to-patient-ratio; and hourly rounds on patients by the nursing staff– all ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certified. For the comfort and convenience of patients and families, Arkansas Surgical Hospital provides 41 private suites that include a separate area for families, 11 state-of-the-art operating rooms, wireless internet service, and a top notch restaurant. Notes CEO Carrie Helm when talking about their patients, “We always strive to make your hospital experience as

“We always strive to make your hospital experience as positive as possible.” 5

positive as possible. Our number one priority is getting you back home to do what you love to do.” For more information, visit their website ArkSurgicalHospital.com.

right and beautiful, Summer Tanagers make their home in Hot Springs Village during the breeding season. They are medium size, chunky songbirds, with a large bill and robin-like song. The male is the only Summer Tanager, male totally red bird in North Photo by Vic Prislipsky America, while the female is mustard colored, and slightly smaller than the male. You may not see them at your feeders. They prefer to be mid-way or high in the trees, darting through the leafy green, catching insects on the fly. Summer Tanagers may be tempted with suet or water sources, but they dine primarily on insects: beetles, wasps, dragonflies, grubs, cicadas, grasshoppers, ants, caterpillars,

weevils, and spiders. They also eat fruits, especially in prepara tion for the long migration into Mexico, Central and South America. The North American population, across the southern states, has remained generally stable over the last 20 years; and the oldest recorded Summer Tanager was 7 yrs, 11 months. HSV Audubon invites you to learn and enjoy more at hsvbirds.org or call Norma Wall at 214-212-6770.

Kick it Up in Little Rock

ajun’s Wharf in Little Rock has managed to remain current, fresh, and yes, trendy despite being open for over 30 years! One of the ways they maintain their vitality is by offering delectable seafood dishes using fish caught less than 24 hours earlier. That provides longtime fans of Cajun’s something new to try on a consistent basis, and also allows them to serve up the freshest seafood possible in a landlocked state. “Every night around 10 p.m., we get a report from our seafood provider about what fish was caught that day,” owner Mary Beth Ringgold says. “They immediately ship it and it is here at 2 p.m. the next day.” Simply put, that means your coconut-pecan encrusted tilapia, Captain’s Oscar, grouper, or char-grilled salmon will be extraordinary. Allow your taste buds to guide you through their varied menu selections. After your entrée, pick a heavenly dessert, among the offerings are Bailey’s Irish Cream and chocolate chip cheesecake, chocolate crème brûlée, and chocolate ganache key lime pie. Enjoy with your favorite libation, and you and your taste buds will delight. 2400 Cantrell Rd, Little Rock, AR 72202-2114, 501-375-5351 CajunsWharf.com

ew Orleans native Ed David has been operating The Faded Rose since 1982. The David family, which includes wife Laurie and their son Zac, have perfected their particular brand of south Louisiana classics, delighting diners across the generations. When the restaurant first opened, Ed was gone a lot due to work, and Laurie remembers an exchange with then-three-year-old Zac . . . “Do you know who loves you?” Zac replied, “Yeah, you and that man at the Faded Rose.” They spent more time with Zac, but he became a part of the restaurant, too, enjoying his favorite meals and playing games with customers. Whether you come for their tasty selection of burgers and sandwiches, including The Faded Rose’s take on the classic hamburger and cheeseburger, or an amazing entrée such as Rose’s Prime Rib, you are certain to experience taste-bud heaven! Sip a glass or two of your favorite vino, and enjoy the ambiance, grace, and endearing charm of a decades old family business still going strong in the city! 1619 Rebsamen Park Road, Little Rock, Arkansas 72202, (501) 663-9734 TheFadedRose.com

uring your next visit to Little Rock, plan to dine at The Oyster Bar, located in Little Rock’s Historic Stifft Station/Hillcrest neighborhood. The Oyster Bar has perfected the art of Cajun style cuisine! Entrees such as their legendary Shrimp Gumbo and Shrimp Etouffee, and authentic, tasty Po-boys (fried gulf oysters and grilled Mahi-Mahi among others) will make you think you are dining in the Big Easy! For dessert, how about frozen and fabulous Ice Box Pies? House-made Chocolate Peanut Butter and Key Lime are always available, and the Oyster Bar suggests patrons ask about seasonal flavor offerings. The Oyster Bar associate and server, Virginia, encourages regular patrons and new diners alike to make The Oyster Bar the site for their next party, stating, “We’ll take care of the hassle so you can have the fun!” With the private party room seating up to 50 people, a big screen TV/DVD, shrimp by the boatload, and oysters by the bushel, Virginia certainly makes a compelling case. 3003 West Markham Street, Little Rock, Arkansas 72205, 501-666-7100 LrOysterbar.com

hen asked to describe Maddie’s Place, Owner/Executive Chef Brian Deloney says, “It is a fun, casual restaurant with southern food influenced by New Orleans.” He adds that the signature dish is the shrimp and grits. Try a crowd favorite Po-Boy: They are served on Leidenheimer French bread and dressed with remoulade or mayonnaise, shaved lettuce and tomato, served with potato chips and a house pickle. You can choose from grilled shrimp or catfish, roast beef with horseradish aioli, fried catfish, crawfish, oyster or shrimp, hamburger, homemade hot sausage, or smoked turkey. at Jack’s Oyster Sports Bar & Grill is a landmark in Hot Springs, Arkansas. It probably would not be much of a stretch to say they are “legendary.” Well-renowned for serving the best oysters in Arkansas, Fat Jacks is also a great sports bar. Thanks to the culinary team of James and Meredith Mills, you can count on awesome Cajun spices and seasonings resonating through their crab cakes, shrimp, gumbo, étouffée, and red beans and rice. Want to further delight your taste buds? How about an appetizer named ‘Natchitoches meat pies’? These are spicy, mini meat pies made with home made Remoulade sauce. Yum! You can also choose from some great sandwich options, among them are the “American Pharaoh” Reuben: a toasted rye bread filled with corned beef, sauer kraut and cheese; and the “Pat Day” Sandwich: a chicken filet (grilled or fried), topped with mozzarella cheese, mushrooms and onions. There are great options for the 12 and under set. Kids can enjoy chicken or fish basket, grilled cheese sandwich, or nachos. Fat Jacks is also a venue for music and weekly karaoke. ithout a doubt much time and detail went into the design concept of 501 Prime. Oyster lovers will appreciate the full oyster bar that is nothing short of top of the line. 501 Prime has a fine (and ever expanding) wine selection, and you will discover liquor and beer offerings rarely seen in this part of the country. General Manager Jeff Falls has picked

an outstanding selection of beer on tap (Guinness, Yuengling, Stella Artois, Blue Moon, Sam Adams, the exceptionally rare Boddingtons Ale, and Fuller’s London Porter). Rebuilding Balboa Marina

Rendering by:

BALBOA MARINA | DOCK SIDE VIEW Balboa Marina and Balboa Lakeside will Open this Summer!

ometimes opportunity presents itself on the heels of tragedy. Greg Jones, owner - manager of the highly successful and innovative Beehive Neighborhood Hangout in Hot Springs Village, has led the development of the new Balboa Marina and new eatery, Balboa Lakeside, to replace the marina that burned to the ground in 2018. Currently with limited operation, the new marina should be fully operational in time for Memorial Day and will offer the requisite gasoline for boaters, as well as offering kayak and pontoon boat rentals by the hour or day, plus fishing boat rentals. Bait and Arkansas Game and Fish Licenses will also be available. Most of these services are currently available at the marina in a limited capacity until construction is complete. As a special touch, Balboa Marina will be offering concierge service to tenants of the boat slips to assist in provisioning their boats for use this summer. The marina will offer cleaning services, fuel service, and general cleanup to

make it easier for slip tenants to use their boats, potentially eliminating the “little red wagon” most people bring to get ready to use their boats. Balboa Lakeside Grill & Store, set to officially open on Memorial Day, will offer imaginative “beach-y” foods including burgers, tacos, salads, and sandwiches made from fresh ingredients and locally sourced when possible. Seating will be available on the large lakeside deck. The store located inside will offer a wide variety of items including dairy products, limited groceries, bread, produce (local when available), and other standard convenience store items. The store will be open every day from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and the grill will be open from April through October. If the Beehive Neighborhood Hangout is any example, HSV residents can look forward to excellent service, creative ideas, exciting events, and happy customers at the new Balboa Marina and Balboa Lakeside.
