S A B R I N A G O I N S

My name is Sabrina Goins, and I am pursuing a Bachelor of Interior Design with a Minor in Architecture at Texas Tech University I am no stranger to diligence and dedication as the daughter of two educators Growing up homeschooled in Austin, Texas, I experienced unique opportunities that allowed my interests in art, design, and architecture to flourish

I come from a family of artists and carry inspiration in my works from my familial roots I have a deep appreciation for the visual and contextual processes in both art and life As an artist and entrepreneur since girlhood, my earliest ambitions resulted in selling decorated popsicle sticks or owning a miniature creations business In recent years, I have had a furniture reupholstery business - an interest I inherited from my grandmother

WECSome of the most formative years of my life were spent in and out of the hospital, as I was born with a condition called sagittal craniosynostosis That was where I first understood the impact of an intentionally designed space For the first four years of my life, much of my time was spent frequently indoors for doctor’s appointments and operations, meaning interior design deeply impacted me.

I have been passionate about design for years; I love creating unique works focused on revitalization To me, interior design and architecture are about making an impact on people through an encounter with a welcoming space. Attributed to that welcoming space is a thoughtful design that should encompass functionality, innovation, sustainability, and comfort, both for human beings and the environment

03 THE MARFA CASITA

The Marfa Casita Project was a remodel of a 1920s farmhouse Clients one and two relocated from Austin to Northeast Marfa, Texas, and requested a design that supported the Marfa style while functioning as their forever home As minimalists, they desired a clean, modern home with an open concept The clients also commissioned a Mark Rothko painting that influenced the colors in the interior

A comfort-based, flowing home, the design functioned as a suitable place for receiving the clients and their guests With an emphasis on artistry, eclectic textures combined with simplistic colors provided the clients with their desired Marfa experience From daylighting research to site-specific views, the project optimized locational research use.

CONCEPT

Envision spreading creamy, whipped butter over the top layer of a slice of golden toast As the knife spreads the butter evenly, it soaks into the coarse toast This unity of textures and colors inspired the Marfa Casita, which intended to unite a home's oasis with the rugged exterior of desert mountains In the same way that a slice of buttered toast leaves a mouthwatering taste, the home delivered its clients a harmonious atmosphere

ARTISTIC APPROACH

ARTISTRY IN THE HOME

In the Marfa Casita, a prominent consideration was to leave room for client expression while emphasizing artistry With one of the clients being an artist, a requested inspirational aspect of the project revolved around a Mark Rothko piece The rest of the interior followed suit, mimicking the artwork's colors, lines, and textures to provide a similar viewing experience With this as an anchor point, the home functioned as a living and breathing artistic representation

DESIGN SELECTIONS

Marfa, Texas, is known for its eccentric and Western style With this in mind, the selection of interior pieces personified Western bohemian materials such as leather, light wood, and concrete Funky colors and patterns were selected for light fixtures and accents, such as the bedroom pendant, while many fixed furniture pieces stayed in neutral color form The neutral color scheme provided space to spotlight one-of-a-kind pieces and tangibly represented the concept

04 CONTAINER PROJECT

The Container Project displays the product of collaboration through design Tasked with utilizing five shipping containers to create dormitories, restrooms, and a food serving space for Grace Campus, four classmates and I developed a service-based site Grace Campus is committed to inspiring hope, instilling value, and equipping the homeless community of Lubbock

From reclaimed materials and donated local artwork to repurposed Texas Tech dorm furniture, the design exhibited a sustainably-minded project By implementing accessibility guidelines, the project fostered independence among residents Working together, our group found solutions to space and budget requirements while learning about real-life design needs

AN INTERSECTION FOR HOPE

Through collaboration, my fellow designers and I created containers that emphasized the unity and community tethered to Grace Campus’ initiative, ensuring that each resident feels like they have a dwelling to call their own The space planning of individual restroom stalls delivered privacy, while the site plan designated space between male and female spaces In this project, I contributed to the layout of the dormitory and site plan After planning and programming, I translated the container designs from AutoCAD into Revit and Enscape to create a realistic design From start to finish, my classmates and I accomplished a welcoming and accessible project

ADAPTED FOR A PURPOSE

With a controlled budget and a specific amount of space allotted for residents, considerations included thoughtfulness and modification By collaborating to create functional spaces, my classmates and I carefully designed and researched possible user needs and goals By focusing on an adaptive approach, innovative design solutions were developed, which allowed for cost efficiency and sustainability

DESIGN SELECTIONS

Weaving reclaimed materials and furniture pieces into the containers' designs acknowledged the forward-thinking approach behind the Grace Campus design By including solar power and LED footpath lighting, the site had a detail-oriented organization Ramps that followed ADA standards, in addition to sliding doors, offered ease and care The purposeful selection of mainly pre-existing items fueled the project's already meaningful purpose

05 ASSORTED PROJECTS

Over the years, I have been involved in mixtures of art, photography, and design classes, allowing my creative designs to flourish I have gained experience from numerous teachers and artists by utilizing multiple mediums Because of this, I have a background knowledge rooted in works with assorted thought processes

I find joy in creating designs and works that are clean, intriguing, and cinematic In the same way that a movie considers all the components, I tend to see things similar to how an image or film would My love of movies started from a young age Being named after an Audrey Hepburn movie myself, movies have always been an integral part of my life experience.

ORIGINAL WORKS

ORIGINAL

When telling a story through my artwork, I enjoy the process and the inclusion of details Translating to my designs, I create works with a visual interest, meaning each part of the project tells a story as it comes together From photography to digital and hand works, I intend to show my process like a director, engaging the viewer with a nostalgically poignant sense of style
