from the French word curiositÊ, is defined as a small and complex object, a product of art or a figure of captivating attention. For horlogerie aficionados, it is the intricate process of watchmaking, the artisanal method of minding every part of its beautiful form, counting up to the tiniest details involved in every finished piece. This is our point of inspiration for CURIO. We have imagined this publication to be an engaging point of interest and fascination to you, dear reader. Far from being a journal of timepiece connoisseurs, we thought it’s time we bring the complexities of timepiece making into wider appreciation without lessening the tremendous prestige and pride associated with owning masterful pieces.

Timeline Group envisioned this magazine to be a treasury of inspiration and compendium of knowledge regarding the crafting of fine time instruments. Every feature and style folios in the following pages were conceptualized to tell all the distinctive stories and brand narratives for deeper appreciation of each product and brand featured.

A thoughtful curatorial process in selecting what to highlight in this edition ref lect that these are products resulting from the curious ideas, creativity, craftsmanship, engineering, innovation, skills, and passion as each piece is designed to become useful, pleasurable and stylish.

In spite of the wide variety of features this publication offers, Curio is never losing its focus from timeless luxury and exquisite taste. Smuggler’s Cove, Zakynthos Greece

No other place shines brighter than Europe in the summer. Days are much longer; everyone’s basking in the sun and feeling the vacation vibe.

At the Navagio beach, the Smuggler’s Cove found along the coast of Zakynhos, is considered one of the most picturesque beaches Greece has to offer. The beautiful sandy cove is defined by its limestone cliffs, white sand, and clear waters; a perfect invitation for tourists, photographers, and divers alike. With a little bit of history behind its name, Navagio was originally known as Agios Georgios. The very basis of its name can be found at its center, a shipwreck right in the middle of the beach. It was named Panagiotis.

During the 1980s, this ship used to be a freightliner, smuggling contraband that included cigarettes, wine, and women. But because of the stormy weather and bad visibility, the ship ran aground right on this beach and was abandoned, still resting and buried in the island’s white sandy dunes. Wrecked and washed ashore, it complements the ocean’s blue waters with its rustic surface. Side by side, the cove and its abandoned ship continuously attract tourists from around the world.

Giant’s Causeway, Northern Ireland

If you come across a path as beautiful as this, then maybe it’s time that you take a hike. On the edge of the Antrim plateau is a carpet of stepping stones extending out to the Irish Sea. The Giant Causeway is one of the world’s most splendored geological wonders found in County Antrim on the northeast coast of Northern Ireland, three miles away from the town of Bushmill. This natural beauty was brought by an ancient volcanic eruption dating back to 50 to 60 million years ago, which caused magma to spew up from inside the Earth and spill out across the surface. The step-like columns are mostly hexagonal, some six-sided, others with four, five, even up to eight sides. They stoop low enough for a good walk whereas others rise steadfast, as high as 40 feet and can be as vastly thick as 90 feet. With 40,000 interlocking basalt pillars embellishing the island, visitors and geologists flock to see and walk through this magnificent landscape.

Formentera, Spain

With so many beaches in Spain, why bother to see Formentera? Not too far away are its larger neighboring islands Majorca, Menorca and the wellknown and overcrowded Ibiza. Yes, the stunning beaches that project Spanish and other diverse cultural cuisines and pubs may seem appealing to most young beach hoppers. But if you’re looking to try something new and off the radar, maybe a boat trip to Formentera would be good for a serene getaway. If this quiet little trip is what you aspire, then there are more than enough reasons to check out Formentera. It’s a quiet and peaceful little island; contrary to its co-existing neighbors, a ban on beachfront building has kept thumping clubs and flop houses from coming ashore leaving the

beaches unspoiled. The seafood there is exquisite. Chiringuitos (beach bars) serve only the freshest local fish and a good plate of paella, which is the island’s specialty. The rustle of palm trees are the sounds to your sweet escape while having sunset cocktails and kicking back to your afternoon siestas. Life in this island counts as a true Spanish experience.

Chiang Rai, Thailand

A country with 7,107 islands can be quite overwhelming when you’re trying to find a place to hang out over the summer. And although popular destinations have become very developed over the past couple of years, each island has its qualifying traits and every one is a treasure of its own. Somewhere in the quiet heart of Camarines Sur, the Caramoan Islands is one of the unexploited (but possibly no longer hidden) destinations in the Philippines. It remains untouched from commercial tourism. Going beyond the usual party scene, there are plenty of ways you can enjoy this island –with a recreational sense of approach. Get ready to dive in! Snorkle and scuba dive into the clear and blue ocean and experience a diverse marine life. Take on the adventure by land and by sea.

Trek and search for the enigmatic lagoon, climb the limestone cliffs, and explore the caves. And after the day-long adventure, spend the night with some quiet stargazing.

Whether you’re travelling halfway across the world or taking a simple trip out of town, sometimes it’s refreshing to find yourself in a place that everyone isn’t exactly hyped up about. Call it a protest against valued and popular destinations, but we’ve all heard (and possibly) seen them before. They’ll always be there and you know it; so why try going someplace new? In Thailand, you’d be surprised to know that not too far away from the well-known

Chiang Mai is a city called Chiang Rai. Great for exploring and trekking, challenge yourself to a good hike at the Buddha Cave where hikers can walk south side and out of north side of the scenic hill, which parallels the Mar Kok river. If you’re more interested in shopping and gorging into local delicacies, the Night Bazaar downtown is a great place for souvenirs and local products, with free cultural performances and a variety of restaurants to choose from. On the cultural side, be captivated by Chiang Rai’s stunning architecture from museums to temples, the White Temple Bridge alone is worth the trip.

From bobtail squids to napoleons, elusive paint pot cuttlefish and native sea moths, you name it, they have it. It’s a spectacular experience for those who love ocean adventure. Plus with all the fresh and delectable food choices, sure enough this is the complete package for the absolute diving experience.

Providence, United States

Providence is one of the first cities to be established in America. Although it’s labeled one of the most underrated cities in the world, it has more than enough reasons for people to consider it interesting, if not, fascinating. Other than its history and renowned title, Providence is the 37th largest metropolitan population

in the country. With that many people, there’s not only a mass number of ethnicities, but a population of 20th century masters and rising young artists that this city has become known for.

It’s a renewed waterfront vibrant art scene. Edgy galleries and exhibition houses like New Urban Arts and RISD Museum feature works of art and design representing diverse cultures from the ancient times to the present. They embrace freedom of expression. AS220 is the place to be for those who love to voice out their creative spirit. Bursting with performance spaces, youth programs, rotating gallery spaces, a variety of media arts lab and dozens of live/work studios; it’s no wonder Providence was nicknamed the “Creative Capital” back in 2009. At the end neighborhood you can find friendly dive bars, vintage stores, appetizing eateries, and indie record stores. Everything is within a walkable distance or a short drive. Without a doubt, Providence is the epicenter of cool.

Budapest, Hungary

Regarded as one of the most underrated travel destinations in Europe, you’d be surprised to know that there’s very much to see in this little city of mixed cultures, old-world architecture, and rich history. Quite easy to get around in, you can go sightseeing with practical transportation. The district has enough sights, restaurants, nightlife, and accommodation listings to make your trip worthwhile. Witness the old, atmospheric buildings with wild plantscapes that cover the city in all its past imperial grandeur.

Indulge in flavorful and surprisingly affordable cuisines in ruin pubs (romkocsma), garden bars (kertek), old fashioned coffee shops, and rural etkezdeks. If the weather is good, try getting a good view from the Citadel or at the history museum, they usually leave their windows open for you to view the scenic Danube and the Parliament, which is absolutely breathtaking. Spacious, tidy, and reminiscent, this compact city is nothing short of its baroque and neoclassical beauty.

Tissot Heritage Navigator 160 th Anniversary Tissot celebrates in 2013, its 160th Anniversary with a piece that ref lects its love for new horizons with the Tissot Heritage Navigator, first created to celebrate Tissot’s centenary in 1953.

Today, still at home in Le Locle, Tissot is represented across five continents, in 160 countries, and is the largest traditional Swiss watch brand based on volume, which is what it celebrates for its 160 years of existence. The Tissot Heritage Navigator with its 24 time zones indicated by the Capitals of their countries on the dial perfectly illustrates that travelling spirit with an everlasting classic look.

Brand ambassador Tony Parker French professional basketball player Tony Parker joins the Tissot ambassador team in 2010.

This further highlights the brand’s commitment to basketball. The captain of the French national basketball team and NBA’s San Antonio Spurs player scores highly on the international scene for his energy, apparent fearlessness and strong sense of social responsibility.

His success with the French national team, which leads to a bronze medal in the 2005 Eurobasket, parallels an outstanding NBA track record. He has a trio of NBA Champion titles to his name from 2003, 2005 and 2007 and is an NBA All-Star on four occasions.

Today, Citizen has created a platform in epoch making technology by introducing a revolutionary collection, a fusion of technology and artistry, the Eco Drive. This innovative and avant-garde collection has become the benchmark of creating the perfect watch.

The selection presents features that are not only limited to clock measure, but the capacities of going beyond the normal competences other brands display, such as tracking dates, chronographs and having one to several alarms. Starting with the basics, the Minute Repeater: this simple but eco-friendly watch will keep track of your local time and will ring the alarm based on your settings for a span of eight months after full charge. As for the Perpetual Calendar, the collection focuses on setting dates. The Skyhawk emphasizes on world time in 30 different time zones with analog and digital displays, a calendar, and a 24-hour format with a 1/100 second chronograph including a 99-minute countdown timer, in addition to its analog Greenwich time. Whereas the Nighthawk features dual time, a 20 bar water resistance and a running time of six months.

The Eco Drive Aqualand is known to be the diver’s watch that possesses enough characteristics that make it suitable to be on water: an elapsed time bezel, a 50 minute chronograph, a water resistance of 200 meters, including a depth and water sensor that automatically switches to dive mode. For the Global Radio Controlled, power is the center of attention with every trait connected to energy, such as its overcharging prevention function, a 4-degree power reserve indication, and an automatic selection of time signal stations, daylight savings time, and an impressive perpetual calendar that could last you up to 2100. The Campanola series showcases a 1/5 second chronograph, a 12-hour totalizator, a power reserve indicator and a moon phase indicator and overall running time of 10 months.

Second to the last of the collection is the Grand Compilation. Having a battery life of two years, it displays a graphic calendar, a 12-hour chronograph, and a chime function with hour tone, minute tone, and a tone for the first 15 minutes after the hour. Finally, the Cosmosign; a constellation inspired watch with a solar display. Its twilight identification function ref lects on its aesthetics, such as the altitude, the azimuth, the pole star hour angle and a total position of 452 fixed stars, and a battery life of three years.

What is your definition of a good suit?

A suit should be a piece that integrates three things: personality, style, and most importantly fit. A good suit is versatile and timeless, a piece that embodies its own individual character that ref lects the person wearing it.

What is the process of making a suit?

What are the things to consider?

Time is an essential element in bespoke tailoring. It usually takes three to four weeks or even longer until the suit gives that ideal fit to the client. The process begins with taking measurements, as well as having the client select the suit’s overall style and material. Upon the second appointment, the client will fit the ‘baste’ suit; a half-made suit temporarily stitched together by white threads. This is when the alterations are noted. The next appointment is to assess the client’s details, such as his posture, neck point, cuffs, etc. Any final adjustment from this fitting will be finished off. Then finally, you have your suit.

A bespoke suit doesn’t just involve measurements; it’s determined by the client’s personality and style.

What particular characteristics about Rado’s watches that resonate with you? Given your active, glamorous lifestyle, how does Rado complement your life?

The watches I have from Rado look cool and I like the design.

Most of the time, I’m quite relaxed in my style. When I have to dress smartly for an occasion my HyperChrome Automatic Chronograph or the new Court Collection HyperChrome Chronograph fits just as well with a suit as with a tracksuit. Comfort is key when you do a lot of sport. I tend to wear training gear most of the time, so it’s good to have a watch that is comfortable, too. They’re also pretty light because of the ceramic.

What are the things you love about Rado watches?

The design and the fact that there is a story behind the design, a reason they look the way they do. Rado also have a history in tennis, which is important to me.

Personally, what is your favorite timepiece from the Rado collection and why?

Most recently I’ve been wearing the blue automatic Chronograph from the HyperChrome Court Collection. It’s very comfortable to wear with the rubber strap. I also wear my

HyperChrome Chronograph in black quite a lot as it goes with everything. My personal favorite at the moment is probably the green Chronograph from the Court Collection, as it reminds me of Wimbledon!

If you had to choose a certain timepiece that reflects your personality, what would it be?

From a man’s perspective a watch is probably the only accessory you wear every day. My watch ref lects that I do a lot of sport and that my look generally is quite sporty. Any of the HyperChrome Chronographs would fit the bill.

As Rado’s ambassador, do you think there are qualities that you commonly share with its timepieces?

I always associated Rado with tennis because I remember them sponsoring tennis tournaments when I was younger.

The new watches have a real tennis focus and the Court Collection even uses the colors of the surfaces.

What is the one thing you would tell people who are curious about Rado watches?

I find them really comfortable and light to wear.
