A note from Joanne...

Some publications are just fabulous, what more can I say – and, as someone who works on many titles each year - from magazines, to annual design books, awards books and a plethora of digital news issues - I am used to working at pace and through numerous titles. All have their merits, all feature the work of the most incredible designers and architects, yet just a couple of times a year I relish the start of a particular title and eagerly look forward to its completion and publication. The Superyacht & Aviation Design Edit is certainly one of the two, if not in fairness the one. Well let’s be candid and honest here: I think it is the most beautiful and inspirational book we publish.

There you have it, bold statement but I think the pages in this issue

will justify this. We are looking here at the design elements of the most visually striking design schemes in superyacht and private aviation design. The schemes ooze glamour and luxury of course, as you would expect, but they are also forwardthinking, visionary statements. This is not merely about the most decadent of interior schemes for the super-rich, this annual design book celebrates timeless glamour, sophisticated styling and technical expertise.

I trust that you will enjoy the features as much as we have enjoyed putting the publication together, it is a dreamy coffee table publication, and one to lift the spirits certainly.

Until next issue

Across the length of her 115 metres, AHPO delights and surprises with her stylish interior and innovative spaces, while fulfilling the traditionally paradoxical needs of both intimacy and hospitality. Accommodating up to 16 guests in 8 cabins the superyacht includes a variety of facilities including a dancefloor, movie theatre, beach club, gym and spa.

AHPO is a striking and bespoke superyacht built for a repeat client who previously owned an 86-metre Lürssen. He required a top-notch design and engineering as well as seagoing comfort for his family. For the exterior and interior design, the design office Nuvolari–Lenard were once again entrusted and gave AHPO a unique look. The objective was for the yacht to enable a healthy and family-focused life on board with numerous facilities for sports and activities including the extra-large gym and the spacious wellness area. She was designed to travel to her destinations in utmost comfort.

When stepping aboard from one of her two custom limo tenders, Nuvolari-Lennard had a very simple goal: perfection. With her timeless, elegant bow and graceful superstructure sweeping aft, she fulfils the brief. “For Lürssen, the task was to build a motor yacht for a repeat client, an upgrade from his 86-metre Lürssen, who had many years of owning and chartering different types of yachts behind him,” says Peter Lürssen. “He required top-notch design and engineering as well as seagoing comfort for his family, guests and crew. The launch of AHPO is testament to the excellent team of builders, designers and engineers we have at Lürssen and the strong relationship with the client. Lürssen prides itself on meeting challenges and this one was no different!”.

The early brief for the interior was to link all the elements of nature, harmoniously balanced throughout the yacht with a clear drive towards rich over opulent. The 205-metre square wellness area on the lower deck is a fitting first place that many that will step aboard into. A large bamboo grove encased in backlit frosted glass forms a stunning backdrop to a stylish bar on one side and a luxurious massage room on the other. In contrast to this zen atmosphere is an explosion of coloured mosaic tiles which make up the hammam and day head as well as the Jacuzzi and plunge pool. Further forward is a luxurious 12-seater cinema and just down the hall is one of the yacht’s most pleasantly surprising areas: a glass walkway through the engine room. This futuristic

addition allows the owners and guests to view the impressive engines and mechanical spaces from above whenever they like.

On the main deck a large conference room boasts as its centerpiece a beautiful custom table with an antique map of Jamaica engraved in bronze and surrounded by deep blue resin, sitting underneath an eyecatching crystal chandelier. Sliding doors open to reveal the main salon, an elegant, formal space with a self-playing Steinway piano. Further forward, another set of doors open up into the formal dining room. Having these three distinct yet connected areas together on the same deck means that as well as somewhere to relax and unwind, AHPO is also a functional working environment and crucially one where business and pleasure can co-exist without crossing paths.

The centre of the yacht is dominated by a grand staircase, accessible at all guest levels. The staircase itself represents a path and depicts an olive tree that grows up to the sky, surrounded by cranes. A striking crystal sculpture hangs from the ceiling, composed of falling feathers, each built by hand. The accent marbles change on each deck, acting as a subtle map of Blu Onyx, Green J’adore and Grey Lilac, with the floor always Calacatta Borghini with White Onyx for the petals, complemented by a bronze balustrade.

The owner’s deck takes on a different theme to the formality of the deck below. The informal salon is contemporary and convivial, with a colourful interpretation of the universe in the carpet and a striking latticed wood pattern running throughout. On the aft deck, an enormous custom 16-seater dining table stands proud within a winter garden that can be completely open or closed to the elements thanks to a complex set of sliding and folding glass doors.

On the upper deck is the 8-metre-long swimming pool with a self-contained Jacuzzi on one side and large sun pad seating flanking the other side. A large bar and relaxed low-level seating make this area a clear favourite for informal family days. Also on this deck is the large gym with multiple machines and pieces of equipment and stunning views out over the water on both sides.

On the bridge deck, the aft deck has been left unencumbered, making it a completely flexible area. Open to the sun, it can also

be protected by removable fabric shades. Moveable furniture and sun loungers fill the space or it can be left open as both a sunrise yoga platform and midnight dance floor, making AHPO a one stop shop for the perfect day in paradise. Forward on this deck is the bridge, designed more like a guest space than a traditional crew area with premium woods and leathers, it is smart and high tech. The unique location also means the ship’s office and captain’s cabin can be together and away from the guest areas, and enables perhaps AHPO’s most standout, innovative feature: the duplex owner’s apartment on the decks below.

The owner’s apartment is made up of a large 245 m2 master cabin on the owner’s deck and a 95 m2 panoramic salon on the upper deck, joined together by a private interior staircase. The owner’s cabin is spacious yet cosy, providing ample privacy from the outside world. The deck space for this room is similarly private: a semi-circle sofa and coffee table face out to sea on recessed balconies on each side, cocooned into a quiet corner thanks to glass bulwarks. On the inside, his-and-hers bathrooms and dressing rooms boast ornate mosaic patterns and bold marbles. His bathroom and dressing room is a combination of honey onyx and black Portoro marble with a stunning mosaic wall in the shower inspired by Klimt paintings. In her bathroom and dressing room, the main colour is pink with a cherry tree theme with elegant blossoms and birds. In both bathrooms, there are two impressive freestanding tubs and custom crystal chandeliers, and a focus on Venetian glass from Murano including furniture decorated with a cast glass frame.

Aside from the master cabin there are seven guest cabins on board. The two cabins on the owner’s deck are designated for specific family members and enjoy their own colour themes of pink and green, chosen by the family to distinguish the two. Gingko leaves make up the main inspiration behind the design in these two cabins with both enjoying the same roll top style baths as in the master cabin bathrooms. The large cabins on the main deck are similarly appointed and enjoy the view from the iconic semi-circle windows.

Paradise is subjective, but when there is so much thought and design put into each space that means everyone is able to enjoy themselves on board in their preferred way, then it is hard to argue that paradise hasn’t been found on a yacht such as AHPO.

Kensho redefines the bounds of space and luxury on superyachts, symbolising something new, personal, and revolutionary.

Built by The Italian Sea Group Admiral Brand in 2022, Kensho was designed by Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture in collaboration with archineers.berlin and features a unique exterior and interior. The project scope included the design and build of the yacht, from the steel hull and aluminium superstructure to the luxurious interiors and expansive spaces. The interior design was created by the renowned Jounin Manku and required a great deal of creativity and skill.

Kensho is an owner-driven project that redefines the spatial constraints, distribution and luxury of a superyacht. Technical challenges are answered with feasible but poetic solutions. Coherent and remarkable, Kensho’s identity is an invitation to experience yachting differently. She was designed for rich sensory sea encounters, fine art and equally artful craftsmanship that touches every moment of the Kensho experience. Nature-inspired smooth and organic shapes and finishes are a consistent motif throughout the yacht, giving Kensho a unique personality. More of the horizon can be enjoyed while on board thanks to the lowered bulwarks, floor-toceiling glass, and low-profile custom-built external furnishings. Inspired by nature, noble materials are artfully transformed into forms that are rounded and organic. From her hardscape to her soft touch interior, the narrative is coherent, seamless and contemporary. Teak, marble, onyx, silk, wool, bronze and glass, a diverse material vocabulary deployed in a deeply personal and poetic expression. The result is a new yacht born of history, tradition, values, myths, and stories.

The 75-metre superyacht can accommodate up to 16 guests in eight cabins and is

equipped with a selection of water-toys, two tenders, beach club and gym, as well as an elevator. Guest cabins are optimised with a unique bathroom layout that yields a full 7-meter deep room. With generous high ceilings, panoramic views, intelligent and modular configurations that adapt to enhance space, intimacy and comfort. When it comes to the interiors, a spacious full beam master suite can be experienced all open or subdivided for one level of intimacy. The wide yet intimate main deck is for sharing magic moments, with comfort, luxury and cosy atmosphere.

The soft and organic shapes and finishes of the superyacht are inspired by nature as a steady motif all over the yacht. The design of the aft walls and the stairs on the pool deck look as if they were carved by the sea. Natural materials form serene and harmonious social areas throughout by using the same wood types in the furniture as the surrounding wooden panelling, while flecked white furnishings are complemented by matching shades and varied textures in the ceiling, carpet and blinds. The floor-toceiling windows create a greater connection to the sea, and after dark the golden glow of recessed lights sets the scene for cosy conversations and film nights. The lighting, curated by “Voyons Voir - Lighting Design”, recreates a soft environment recalling the lighthouse that gave hope to the navigators of the past at sea.

Motor Yacht Kensho was designed with the client’s specific needs, requirements and preferences in mind. “Kensho integrates the best ideas of residential design and marine design to create a new quality of life at sea”, explains the Owner, who personally supervised the design and development. The client’s environmental concerns were also taken into consideration. The owner was heavily involved in the development of the vessel, providing feedback and ideas throughout the four year building process.

Overall, the owner was thrilled with the end result and felt that the yacht had exceeded all of his expectations.

The Italian Sea Group have found themselves shortlisted in The International Yacht and Aviation Awards 2023 with this luxurious interior design, with its golden tone lighting scheme and teak cabinetry, woven metal panels encased in glass, a louvre-effect leather ceiling and sliding doors.

They believe the success of this design is due to their constant drive for innovation, knowhow, masterfully skilled teams, and passion for art and beauty, “we were able to say yes to the owner and reach this significant milestone for both our company and the nautical industry as a whole. M/Y Kensho is a detailed work of art unlike any other. It has been a wonderful experience for all of us, but more importantly, it is proof that her Owner’s vision has come true”, explained Marianna Ferrante, Marketing Director of The Italian Sea Group.

The interior design reflects the vision of the owner and creates a luxurious and inviting atmosphere. Specialist interior design skills were required in order to bring the concept to life and create the beautiful and luxurious motor yacht Kensho. Speaking about a favourite aspect of the project Marianna remarked, “as an innovative luxury shipyard, we knew that the owner had ambitious plans and would present us with a variety of design challenges, from the propulsion systems to the interiors and exteriors. We were inspired by the owner’s philosophical view, and as a result, the 75-meter motor yacht Kensho, which in Japanese stands for ‘Seeing one’s true nature’, was built. Together, we overcame technical, architectural, stylistic and design challenges to deliver something new, personal, and ground breaking”. She continued “We hope that this project inspires other visionaries who aspire to create something as grandiose as Kensho.”

“Teak, marble, onyx, silk, wool, bronze and glass, a diverse material vocabulary deployed in a deeply personal and poetic expression. The result is a new yacht born of history, tradition, values, myths, and stories.”

The first fully outfitted Gulfstream G700 features the most spacious cabin in the business-aircraft industry and elegant interior design reflective of the signature Gulfstream Cabin Experience that fosters health, wellness and passenger rejuvenation over the globe-spanning flights the G700 can achieve.

The G700 interior design is a result of collaboration among Gulfstream interior and industrial designers and craftsmen who designed and constructed every element of the cabin by hand; from the cabinetry and furnishings to the leathers and upholstery. This exclusive project was led by Freestream’s chief design officer Sarah Mespelt Larranaga.

The immediate visual character is expressed through welcoming luxury craftsmanship through the elegant use of wood, leather and marble. The artisanal contemporary interior recreates a sophisticated and relaxed spirit of comfort, with cleverly engineered custom VVIP seats and beautifully quilted divan helping to gracefully harmonise the personable atmosphere of the G700 cabin. The designers have customised never before seen seats and divans for a G700 by using kevlar and carbon fibre materials beneath moulded veneer, the most weight efficient and new design on every furniture piece in a Gulfstream. Using the combination of luxury materials and engineered for performance furnishings, the designers have created the perfect harmony for a luxury seeking client for this G700.

The serene interior is designed in Gulfstream’s minimalist aesthetic and is achieved through a tonal palette of light,

creamy neutrals and warm greys across a play of geometric patterns interspersed with touches of warm cinnamon and charcoal for accent and definition. The veneer in the cabin is a composite Grey Oak, a warm grey wood with consistent grain texture, and the countertops are outfitted in a creamy neutral quartz with seeping dove grey and cinnamon vein accents. The carpet features intersecting circular patterns of burnt sienna and charcoal that are overlayed with subtle horizontal lines that soften the geometric shapes throughout the cabin. Passengers can work, relax and rest over distinct living areas and these are further defined by the Gulfstream interior design team by varying the pattern scaling to accentuate each space uniquely.

Gulfstream Aerospace garnered the Private Jet Design Award at The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2022 with the G700 design. Reflecting on the Importance of the Awards, Emily Belford, Public & Media Relations Manager at Gulfstream commented, “The International Yacht & Aviation Awards are an important affirmation of the men and women whose design expertise goes into Gulfstream cabin design, every one hand-crafted and tailor-made for each customer”.

The Gulfstream Cabin Experience on the G700 features the lowest cabin altitude in the industry, regularly replenished 100% fresh air purified by Gulfstream’s plasma ionization system, whisper-quiet noise levels and Gulfstream’s panoramic oval windows. The Gulfstream minimalist G700 design increases the feeling of spaciousness in the industry’s most spacious cabin and creates a passenger refuge perfectly complemented by

the Gulfstream Cabin Experience. The warm cinnamon and charcoal accents, combined with unifying plating and veneer, contribute to the serenity the soft, tonal palette creates.

The International Yacht and Aviation Award winning G700 seats include horizontal linear quilted inserts with a double-stitch detail that ties back into the carpet texture. Accents of warm veneer, soft wool fabric and mini-welts layer aspects of the cabin materials into the seats, creating more subtle variations throughout the cabin. The interior design is further refined through the nickel dark aged plating on the seat controls, drawer pulls and other hardware that creates a textural metal accent in harmony with the neighbouring cabin materials.

Sarah Mespelt Larranga, chief design officer for Freestream, has collaborated with an expansive list of top-tier artists, architects, designers, and manufacturers over the years, believing the ultimate luxury aircraft is customised and designed to fit each client’s unique taste and usage. The company’s service extends beyond bespoke interiorsaddressing innovative avionics, structures, and lightweight composites to ensure owners investment in their aircraft will extend the lifetime and usage of their aircraft reinforcing Gulfstream’s values of premier quality innovation and sustainability.

The designers of the G700 strived to create an aircraft that people were on the edge of their seats to see - released to its first client for flight in 2021. They have led the way in an inventive yet functional design to set a standard for the interior of this aircraft type.

“Accents of warm veneer, soft wool fabric and mini-welts layer aspects of the cabin materials into the seats, creating more subtle variations throughout the cabin. The interior design is further refined through the nickel dark aged plating on the seat controls, drawer pulls and other hardware that creates a textural metal accent in harmony with the neighbouring cabin materials.”

M/Y Victorious is a unique combination of a robust explorer yacht and an elegant, comfortable superyacht concept. She has been designed for long-range passages in testing sea conditions.

More than 14 years in the making, including construction that spans three continents and a new yard created to complete her build, Victorious has quite the back story. After purchasing the unfinished yacht, the owner decided to add a 6m extension to the stern so that it would be capable of carrying his beloved sports boats if required. He founded his own shipyard, Akyacht, in his native Turkey to complete the colossal project. Ak is a father of three with a need for speed and an off-road champion who has competed in the Dakar Rally and owns a handful of power boats. He wanted something that could transport his power boats if need be, but also give him the ability to travel the world with his children.

With over 1300sqm of guest space on board, Victorious, with her rugged exterior lines, has a wide variety of communal areas including the Sun Deck Lounge with a central fireplace. The area is called Gentleman’s club and is one of Ak’s favourite areas on board. Located on the top deck this air-conditioned area is probably the biggest clue to the man behind the boat. The space is dominated by a wood-burning marble fireplace. To allow for this the top deck had to be fitted with separate air conditioning and air cleaning systems. As well as huge, curved sofa, the glass-fronted wine cellar, cigar humidor and backlit shelves displaying vintage whiskies and cognacs, the lounge has bespoke speakers, designed by a sound engineer friend of the owner’s, adding to the ambience of his favourite area on board. It was also designated as the boat’s smoking area with all the upholstery, leathers and decoration impervious to cigarette and cigar smoke.

The top deck may indulge specific owner requests but elsewhere the yacht has been designed to have broad appeal on the explorer charter market. This is predominantly thanks to London’s H2 Yacht Design studio. The concept for the interior was not to design a radical, impractical or difficult to build interior but rather a design that would be universally admired and was comfortable yet chic. The yacht is decked

in plenty of warm teaks, eucalyptus and bleached oaks alongside light leathers and silver travertine to create a beautiful neutral backdrop, upon which touches of macassar, portoro marble, black slate and other contrasting finishes are added to striking visual effect. In addition to a number of glass sculptures and bespoke chandelier, the yacht is also punctuated with backlit onyx, woven leathers, rippled glass, beaten metals, 3D marble patterns and specialist finishes ensuring every space has it’s own ‘special something’ that is sought on superyachts.

With the charter market in mind, Ak has also added a host of additional features to his original design brief. “For this level of boat, clients are expecting extras – extra Jacuzzis, extra dance floor, swimming pools, et cetera,” Ak explained.

Bearing the charter market in mind, Ak wanted to ensure that his family and friends would also enjoy Victorious. The yacht has 12 cabins, so when it is used privately, it can host up to 24 guests. The full-beam owner’s suite is on the bridge deck facing aft, with his and hers en-suite finished in Calacatta marble and dark wood cabinets and a walkin wardrobe. Large windows on port and starboard allow light to flood in, while doors open onto a private deck complete with a spa pool and sun beds upholstered in creamcoloured fabric. Forward of the master are two simple en suite cabins for his children.

The rest of the accommodation is split between the main and lower decks. When Ak purchased the yacht some of the fit-out had already started on the lower deck cabins so the designers had to work with what they had and transformed them into more of a beach house feel. They hand-painted the wood that was already in place and completely remodelled the bathrooms, installed new doors on the cabinets and chose new marble. As they went further up the yacht there was nothing built so they could start fresh. A full-width VIP suite finished in grey tones is forward on the main deck. Featuring a private seating area, it ensures that the yacht can appeal to dual charterers. #

A further personal touch on the main deck is a dedicated playroom. Here, bright rainbow-coloured cushions hide storage cupboards that can hold a plethora of

toys and activities. With a world map on the wall designed to inspire future trips, this dedicated space allows children to be children. The design team also made sure that the space could be multifunctional and easily converted into an adventure room, teaching room or lecture space.

The idea of flexible spaces extends to the other living areas. The upper deck, which overlooks a forward helipad, has a curved seating area complete with a baby grand piano. Behind it is a formal dining area, with a three-tiered chandelier and an additional seating area which can also be used as a business area with its mirror television that can be used for conference calls.

Outside spaces are focused around communal entertaining – there is outdoor banquet-style seating for 16 guests on the upper deck aft – and having fun in the water. The 200-square-metre beach club, has a counter-current pool, gym, massage room, beauty salon and, of course, a traditional hammam.

When shortlisted in The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2022, Ak remarked the Awards are “the most important event of the last decade of identifying and rewarding the World’s best Yacht & Aviation design. It has become a key event in the calendar for sure. Building a yacht is a long and demanding job, after the completion, it would be great to be honoured by this prestigiously award”. In Venice in May 2022 Akyacht were garnered with the Award for best Motor Yacht Over 80M.

Victorious’ interiors invite guests to chill and spend quality time with friends or family in the various social areas. “We tried to make a different boat: friendly, easy to live in, comfortable, safe and luxurious. And I believe we have achieved this” Ak stated.

Victorious is a platform for a self-sufficient motor yacht concept with large tenders and amazing long-range cruising capacity but refuses to neglect the finer intricate details of a sophisticated but family orientated modern superyacht.

“The concept for the interior was not to design a radical, impractical or difficult to build interior but rather a design that would be universally admired and was comfortable yet chic”

There is undeniable presence about the newest Lazzara model that exudes a powerful sense of modernism. The revolutionary design of the LSX 67 is sleek, elegant, and confident offering a bold new direction in yachting experience.

The LSX 67 is far more than just beauty and power. The 67 foot fast cruiser from Florida’s Lazzara Yachts has many features found on much larger yachts. While this dramatically styled yacht was designed at Lazzara’s Tampa headquarters, the LSX 67 was built in Turkey by parent company Euro Marine Group.

This head-turning fast cruiser is distinguished by its dramatic axe bow and vast, single-piece glass windscreen that flows back into a curved roof with a large opening glass sunroof. The LSX 67 hardtop protects the upper deck seating area and helm while the electric sunroof opens to reveal the sky, offering an ocean breeze to the captain and guests enjoying the top deck entertaining area.

While at anchor, the fold-down cockpit teak patios may be lowered, to almost sea level, doubling the size of the rear deck, creating an impressive beach club and providing easy access to the water. Teak steps on both the port and starboard sides lead to the raised deck which features a variety of seating and sunbathing options. Wide walkways continue on the outside of the upper seating area leading to the bow lounge, another haven for sunshine tranquillity. Passengers can enjoy

relaxing on the foredeck sunpad or having an al fresco lunch on the U-shaped couch and the teak pedestal table.

Adjacent to the cockpit are a few short steps down leading to the aft entrance to the master suite, a spectacular full-beam stateroom with an exceptional amount of space, light, and storage opportunities. Two glass doors separate the cockpit from the master suite and create a unique view of the water from the large, centreline berth. These doors combine with the oversized hull windows to add an abundance of natural light to the lower deck even in the master ensuite. The fullwidth glass doors also give direct access from the full beam master stateroom to a secluded, teak-decked private patio, with oversized sofas and large sun pad. The view and access to this beach deck and fold down balconies is unequalled in a yacht this size and makes this yacht truly unique.

On the main level, the main salon is full of contrasting colours, but consumed by natural light. Well laid out, though compact, the salon has an L-shaped sofa facing a well-equipped galley. Sliding glass doors open out onto the back-deck dining area with wide, floating steps leading down to the beach club.

Another set of stairs adjacent to the helm lead to the lower deck salon and galley that are equipped to handle meal preparation for multiple guests. Two beautifully appointed guest cabins present a chance for rejuvena-

tion after a day spent in the sun. Placed forward in the bow is an ample-sized VIP ensuite cabin which features a double berth and inroom entrance to the guest bath. A corridor from the lower galley leads back to a twinbed guest cabin and into the master suite. The third stateroom can be used for a captain or additional guests and features over/under bunks.

The LSX 67 has been shortlisted in three categories in The International Yacht and Aviation Awards 2023. As a previous winner at these Awards in 2022, Euro Marine Group submitted the LSX 67 having experienced the value of the Awards process. “The International Yacht and Aviation Awards helps us to introduce our yachts to a specific audience in the industry, to boost our awareness and to have a valuable recognition as from our previous years experience” Akaki Goginashvili, Business Development & Marketing Manager for Euro Marine Group.

The LSX 67 is a perfect blend of contemporary style, intelligent social space, and horsepower. Throughout the yacht, the quality and craftsmanship are apparent. From the highgloss woodwork to the hand-stitched leather and recessed lighting, everything looks and feels a cut above.

The Ultimate Express Yacht

From the moment you first glance at the revolutionary design of the LSX 67, there is an undeniable presence about the newest Lazzara model that exudes a powerful sense of modernism. Sleek, elegant, and confident, the LSX 67 offers a bold new direction for your yachting experience.

The LSX 67 is a perfect blend of contemporary style, intelligent social space, and horsepower waiting to be unleashed on the open sea. The optional twin Volvo IPS 1350 engines combined with the use of carbon fi ber in the hull saves weight resulting in an exhilarating 35 knot speed that compliments her rocket-like silhouette.

Speed and Space

Expanding the Lazzara fleet in grand style, the LSX 85 is perfect for those ready to head for the horizon of their dreams. Earning high marks for sweeping good looks as well as speed, space, and technical features, this clever yacht makes a bold statement. A trio of Volvo IPS 1350 hp engines produce the signature Lazzara wake with an estimated 40-knot peak and 400+ nm range. A spacious open cockpit with elegant gull-wing doors, fold-down teak patio doors to port and starboard, and a lower deck fold-down balcony means you are never far from the sea.

Introducing the boundary-breaking CITATION XLS Gen2 jet. Technological precision and thoughtful design meet in an intuitive aircraft engineered for exceptional journeys. The Cessna Citation XLS Gen2 jet’s firstclass cabin is inspired by customers and redesigned for superior comfort and greater productivity.

At Textron Aviation, innovation is not brought about by a specific aircraft need. Rather, they have a dedicated team consistently reimagining private aviation years into the future. They spend their time asking, “why not?” instead of “why?” and finding new ways of transporting individuals and cargo that aren’t married to a specific model of aircraft. They consistently look for design inspiration across the universe and keep updated mood boards on hand to capture every “ah-ha” moment. That creativity never stops and is brought to life when the marketplace indicates it’s time to push forward.

For Textron Aviation, pushing forward starts with intentional listening. Their customerfacing teams spent hours with true Citation customers, pilots, passengers and even competitive owners to dive deep into what aviators want and need. That often came in the form of challenges and concerns of previous aircraft, but also dreams. From there, innovation came to life as industrial designers, engineers and interior designers aimed to solve for those challenges and concerns while also pushing the envelope with what private aviation can be. Time, expertise and intentionality bring earthshattering vision at Textron Aviation. This is the framework for what they identify as the concept of Gen2.

The concept for Citation XLS Gen2, is about enhancing the customer experience through purposeful shape development, accent lighting, and quality materials. The teams compiled the primary needs of customers to include aesthetics, convenience, technology, comfort and durability. They designed concepts ranging from “mild to wild” and utilised additional feedback to align on a path forward.

This teamwork came to fruition with a sleeker design across the cabin from the size of latches to the leather quilting. Durability and versatility describe the fold down seats that have intentional material to support weight of baggage without harming the

luxurious leather of the seatback. The entry step boasts a similar material with longevity in mind.

Newly designed lighting inside the cabin as well as the entry steps increase awareness in dark settings while also adding unmatched ramp appeal. A convenient, user-friendly cabin management system allows the individual to adjust any of these factors to their liking. Adding additional device charging capabilities and bringing wireless charging first to market allows the users to be as productive as they choose.

The design and connectivity focus comes without compromise on comfort. Teams specialising in creature comfort designed sport seats that are contoured to the human body forming intentionally around the spine, angled with the ideal amount of foam for ample support. An acoustic curtain now sits at the entry to separate inclement weather, extreme temperature or engine noise from the cabin inside.

The Citation XLS Gen2 is truly a culmination of customer feedback, industry-leading design dreams and a business direction to support customers with the best. It’s a new approach to designing aircraft, but one that is already pleasing customers and aviators across the globe. Every finite detail of this design was created with intention and either quantitative or qualitative data. The designers did not guess what the customer wanted; they directly asked.

The aviation industry is putting attention on more than just aircraft performance and Textron Aviation is leading the way. Aviators now can invest in the XLS Gen2 as a business tool but enjoy an interior that does not compromise comfort or luxury. As more international attention is put on environmental impact, designers sourced sustainable materials and fabrics that still uphold the level of quality our customers expect. In an intentional effort to reduce waste and design for longevity, the teams behind the XLS Gen2 created panels, pieces and components that are easily replaced or updated in sections, reducing the potential to waste materials that remain in great condition for years to come. To better serve the aviation community, they believe designing for longevity instead of designing for the “new” is a more sustainable

mindset. They took the legacy Citation 560XL series, which has stood the test of time for generations and elevated it to a level that thinks into the future.

Restriction can often breed creativity and that was what happened with this design. The designers elevated comfort, quality, connectivity and luxury, but had to select materials that would not affect the performance of the aircraft. Every adjustment to an aircraft has the potential to affect the weight and designers had to navigate within strict confines to produce excellence. In navigating those constraints, designers use specialised skills to handdraw concepts that they then put into modelling software. Overall, a combination of industrial designers, engineers, interior designers and craftsmen used their carefully crafted skills to make the next generation of aircraft come to life.

The cabin design of the XLS Gen2 jet has been recognised internationally. The latest Citation jet has been shortlisted for both the Private Jet Design Award and the Interior Design / VIP Award in The International Yacht and Aviation Awards 2023. Commenting on their shortlisting success, Devon Stein, Content/Digital Marketing Manager at Textron Aviation said “Anyone can say they are the best but adding a layer of third-party credibility elevates those statements tenfold. Adding proof to design reaps benefits that cannot be quantified. In addition, rewarding smart, innovative and industry-evolving designs elevates the standard in the luxury transportation world and pushes every person connected to luxury aviation creation to better themselves to adhere to industry standard evolution”. Continuing about the concept he remarked “We are proud our investment in technology, comfort and design coupled with a strong focus on our valuable Citation aircraft owners continues to reign supreme”.

The Citation XLS Gen2 was created for business visionaries; forward thinkers who don’t want to have to choose between innovative technology, luxurious design and long-term reliability. With this design, Textron Aviation are pioneering a flying experience where customers arrive refreshed, recharged and ready for whatever awaits them at their destination.

“The concept for Citation XLS Gen2, is about enhancing the customer experience through purposeful shape development, accent lighting, and quality materials. The teams compiled the primary needs of customers to include aesthetics, convenience, technology, comfort and durability.”

The yachting world has seen commercial vessels converted into superyachts, and heritage yachts being returned to their original glory, but this is the first time a superyacht has been recreated to face the future as a wholly new, contemporary vessel. The results reinforce Oceanco’s reputation for tackling challenging projects and delivering industry firsts.

Oceanco’s CEO Marcel Onkenhout comments: “To say that this has been a remarkable process is an understatement. The project has called for passion, dedication, and extraordinary craftsmanship, with many involved in her creation now contributing to her recreation, including myself. We are proud to say that we are relaunching a completely new Oceanco.”

1050H displays a modern exterior aesthetic, including a completely new superstructure, alongside a fresh interior by Reymond Langton Design. The reimagining of this icon calls into question our notion of what defines a yacht. To consider the connection between form and identity, and a yacht’s potential for evolution; taking on new shapes and new meanings.

The A Group’s Richard Hein, who acted as the independent owner’s representative for the project, adds: “This almost unimaginable transformation has been able to take place thanks to the shared trust, perseverance and expertise of the team involved. A yacht is more than

SUPERYACHT & AVIATION NEWS

just the materialization of an owner’s vision. It has its own character, its own specific habitat, with a unique purpose and story. Through the achievements of this project we have been able to extend the story of a remarkable superyacht for decades to come. It is about seeing the potential for all vessels, rather than starting from a blank sheet of paper each time.”

Aside from her physical transformation, the work undertaken brings 1050H into the future with contemporary standards in terms of technology, safety, capability and sustainability. She has an operational profile that is fully compliant with rigorous IMO Tier III standards, not to mention upgrades to her technological capabilities across the board.

At a time when the yachting industry is increasingly mindful of the impact that newly built vessels have on the planet, it is pertinent to highlight that bringing an existing superyacht’s environmental profile up to date with contemporary standards can have as much, if not more, of a positive impact. “It is a proud moment for me to see the nearing completion of this transformation, having personally been involved in returning 1050H to her birthplace for this ambitious project” added Dr. Barwani, Chairman of Oceanco.

Motor Yacht All In is a 44m superyacht built by Australian Shipyard NQEA in 2004 has undergone a complete interior overhaul with the addition of a fifth guest stateroom.

The extensive interior refit, completed in just three and a half months, included construction of a new guest cabin and guest head from what was formerly a gym and engineers cabin area. The new interior furnishings, fittings, lighting, wallcoverings, draperies, finishes and custom commissioned art throughout was carried out by Karen Lynn Interior Design.

The yacht’s striking exterior and naval architecture are courtesy of Don Shead. From the upper walkaround deck to the Portuguese deck forward to the spacious sundeck with a large Jacuzzi and alfresco dining options, there is an abundance of space for guests to enjoy. Five staterooms welcome up to 10 guests on board. Her fullbeam master is located forward on the main deck and features a private lounge space separate from the bedroom. The yacht’s additional four staterooms – one of which is a recent addition courtesy of her refit – are all located below deck with three featuring king beds and one being a twin.

The client is a multiple boat owner, who owns several yachts, and is described by Lead Interior Design, Karen Lynn, as a visionary and a very loyal and amazing client. “We are super grateful to have the opportunity to work with him and his group for over the past fifteen years on three yacht refits and a home” she remarked. The Owner commissioned Karen Lynn Interior

Design to convert the yacht from a fourcabin vessel to five cabins. The project was undertaken during COVID which brought about various difficulties and challenges. At the time the team embarked on the refit, it was impossible to obtain furniture in the US so each of the 36 pieces of furniture were custom made. They also commissioned 32 pieces of art which were painted and framed for the yacht as a one of a kind. The team worked hard to make it happen for their client, creating all new stone, wallpaper, draperies, bedding, interior and exterior furniture, carpets, decor and much more. “Each piece was custom made, there was nothing that was purchased because we could not buy anything during Covid to meet our timelines. Each piece has love and has had special hands placed on it and to me it tells a story of what can be the best outcome when a group of talented and willing people come together to make something special,” Karen explained. Several talented custom craftsman fabricated all of interior and exterior furniture to Karen Lynn’s specifications in record time. Karen elaborated “all of the work we do is custom of a kind design, because really no two boats are the same, the cabin and guest head was also custom made with love by local fabricators and artisans”.

For Karen Lynn, a key aspect of the project was building the new cabin and guest head in such a short time frame and “the challenges of being pushed to a higher level and working under immense pressure with my team of vendors, subcontractors and suppliers on strict deadlines and successfully producing a beautiful project with strict deadlines”.

The design team have created a luxurious and beautiful interior with an exterior deck space that is modern yet cosy, soft and inviting. A light neutral colour scheme is combined with light textures in whites, greys and a touch of blue. The modern and light pallet has a contemporary feel, with art and styling that would be comfortable and preferable for most guests and owners. Despite the light interior the finishes, colours and textiles used allow for heavy use and traffic making the interior functional yet practical.

A combination of black and white with metallic silver and greys were used in the Skylounge. The design team added textured glass and a custom ebony game table with custom game chairs in a white marbled velvet. They threw in a hint of black and white leopard print and texture in the area rug to add a pop to the room and create a club like vibe topped off with sheer white curtains to soften the curved glass windows.

Recently shortlisted in The International Yacht and Aviation Awards 2023, Karen Lynn explained the importance of the Awards “I think that awards are important to set a standard of excellence and to recognise the great talents of many in the industry and their achievements”.

Commenting on the overall outcome of the project, Karen Lynn remarked “I am grateful to my client for the opportunity and grateful to each artisan, fabricator, vendor, and subcontractor who worked tirelessly to make the project a success”.

“The design team have created a luxurious and beautiful interior with an exterior deck space that is modern yet cosy, soft and inviting. A light neutral colour scheme is combined with light textures in whites, greys and a touch of blue”.

The Amels 60 Come Together is the first of a new generation of Amels Limited Editions featuring exterior design by Espen Øino International, interiors by Winch Design and naval architecture by Damen Yachting.

Come Together offers guest accommodation for up to 12 guests in 6 suites comprising a master suite located on the main deck, one VIP cabin, two double cabins and two cabins that can operate as twins or doubles. The supremely spacious full beam master suite features extensive storage space provided by the dressing room benefits from a his and her bathroom. She is also capable of carrying up to 14 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Øino may be a new partner for Amels but a more familiar name, Winch Design, was chosen for the yacht’s interior. The British firm had worked with Come Together’s first owner on other projects so they had a clear vision of what he wanted to achieve. “The original client likes natural finishes. He doesn’t like any gloss, shiny metal, anything grey, white or black, so every material has warmth to it,” explains Jim Dixon, Director of Yachts and Aviation at Winch Design.

As a result, the team set out to create a “contemporary, beachy, tactile interior” that utilises bleached oaks, open-grain veneers, brushed-bronze metals and woven linen fabrics. The natural-tone materials are complemented by animal hides and a remarkable selection of stones and marbles.

Austrian fit-out specialist List GC implemented Winch’s interior design throughout guest and owner areas. The original owner’s preference was for natural, warm tones, with textures and pops of colour adding a sense of subtle luxury and cohesion. One example being the surface of the saloon’s dining table, made up of almost 100 veneer leaves. The designers were also inspired by Øino’s approach. “A lot of the details are geometric, which are taken from Espen Øino’s exterior,” says Winch’s Melanie Coleman, who was the project lead. “Angles have been subtly incorporated into furniture

on the interior, with a signature chamfered detail appearing on credenzas, and have also been utilised to create a better flow in tight spaces.”

One of the areas on board that best embodies the artisanal, textural ethos is the yacht’s central staircase, where a “helix column” of American walnut twists between the decks. This impressive feature was inspired by Japanese joinery, with each of the four levels made of more than 100 slats that are joined together without glue or fixings. “Every single piece is different,” says Coleman. “A highly skilled team in Austria spent months creating it.” Sitting alongside this masterpiece, the staircase’s back wall is made from carved walnut and the floor is laid with Botticino and Emperador dark marble with bronze inlays.

Despite the multiple textures and materials, repetition gives the yacht a sense of cohesion. Golden Spider marble, which forms the centrepiece of the upper saloon lounge bar is also found in the dayhead in the beach club area, and a labyrinth pattern seen on the stairs’ hand-stitched leather handrail is repeated on door handles and a tabletop. “It’s a sophisticated puzzle,” says Coleman. “By working this way and repeating materials throughout the yacht, it creates a sense of continuity.”

Four guest cabins on the lower deck offer direct access to the beach club. Here a sauna concealed behind frosted glass is decorated with “dancing ladies” designed and drawn by Winch Design and created by Kepka Art, and space for gym equipment. It adjoins a sizeable swim platform.

One deck up, the owner’s suite also feels connected to the water thanks to a folding balcony on the starboard side. On Come Together, the owner’s choice was that his suite should incorporate an office and seating area and it has a distinctly masculine feel. “The original client liked generously proportioned furniture and interior detail, so everything was deliberately chunky and generous,” says Coleman. Textured

leather hide on the ceiling and eel skin in the office were chosen for their cut textured appearance. The owner’s bathroom features Portoro marble, with a custom-designed hammered-bronze basin and antique brass fixtures.

In direct contrast to the owner’s suite, the VIP cabin, known on board as “madam’s cabin”, has a feminine feel. Above the bed sits artwork by contemporary American painter Tobias Tovera, who worked with Winch for this one-off commission. The television cabinet is adorned with abalone shell and the niches feature woven motherof-pearl boards created by Nature Squared. Different stones define the four guest cabins: Calacatta Oro, Coral Stone, Petrified Wood and Palissandro Blue.

Entering the main saloon, the eye is drawn to a feature wall, which has been created using brushed, bleached oak. The seating area is positioned forward of a round table that sits on top of Botticino and Pulpis marble. This table can also be extended to fit more guests and features a surface comprising nearly 100 individual veneer leaves, that had to be laid in one specific sequence.

In a further nod to the cohesion Winch was seeking to create, four tall, round storage cabinets in the saloon seem to penetrate through the deck by reappearing in the upper saloon above. By comparison, the upper saloon has more of a playful air, with a Golden Spider marble bar, a bespoke games table created by Hull Studio, and a guitar as a nod to the Beatles song that shares the boat’s name.

Come Together is not only the name of the yacht - it is also a key concept behind its interior design, creating an environment with a focus on relaxed family enjoyment.

For adventures off the beaten track, Come Together has all the bells and whistles designed to offer a sublime combination of luxury and convivial spaces that serve to welcome passengers from the moment they step onboard.

“the team set out to create a “contemporary, beachy, tactile interior” that utilises bleached oaks, open-grain veneers, brushed-bronze metals and woven linen fabrics. The natural-tone materials are complemented by animal hides and a remarkable selection of stones and marbles.”

The Moonstone features exterior design by Tim Heywood Design Ltd., while her interior was penned by Luxury Projects, with naval architecture by Amels. Up to 12 guests are accommodated on board the superyacht Moonstone, and she also has accommodation for 13 crew members including the captain. The Amels Limited Edition 188-200 yacht Moonstone has a steel hull and aluminium superstructure.

Luxury Projects Studio was asked by Damen Yachting to develop the Interior Design for the Amels LE200, and in accepting this challenge they had a real chance to express their creativity and utilise new ideas during the entire design process.

The brief was a top luxury interior, appealing to a large clientele. Based on a nearly fixed GA, Luxury Projects were still able to add features and finishes to the existing layout in order to enhance guest comfort and crew service in. Luxury Projects tried to create a “timeless” style with the idea that the major innovative features (ceilings, lighting and walls) could represent the “basic” design of the new fleet Limited Edition 200, allowing easy further changes to match the clients’ tastes. Simplicity in architecture lines matched with contrast of materials and proper use of light, allowed the designers to create a “timeless” style with a real elegant homely feeling.

At The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2022 in Venice in May, Luxury Projects were announced winners in four categories;

Lighting Scheme, Bathroom, Bespoke Cabinetry / Installation and along with Tim Heywood Design and Damen Yachting –Amels, they were crowned design et al Global Project Award Winner. Reflecting on the importance of the Awards Laura Pomponi, CEO and founder of Luxury Projects stated it is the “high recognition in the Architecture, Design & Yachting Worlds”.

The yacht project began as a speculative build for the yard and so the interior was designed to appeal to a wide clientele. Inside, simple architectural lines are combined with contrasting materials and extensive use of light, with full-height windows in the owner’s suite and office. The overall objective was to create an ambiance of homey elegance.

Laura Pomponi drew attention to the high quality both in the furnishings and the installation, with most of the loose furnishings and some of the lighting fixtures designed and ordered only three months before delivery of M/Y Moonstone to her Owners. Notable features onboard include a lift spanning four decks, an internal gym on the sundeck and enlarged windows – which reach full height in the Owner’s suite – that produce a greater sense of connection to the environment while enjoying indoor comforts.

Though a challenge, Luxury Projects successfully designed and delivered loose furniture, lights, linens and accessories within a tight time frame due to team work and great project managing. With dedicated Italian suppliers and artisan workshops

Luxury Projects realised an on time delivery and installation with astonishing quality.

A favourite aspect of the project for Laura Pomponi is the light design, she explained “It should be approached holistically, fully incorporated into the Interior and domestic automation”. The team challenge themselves to provide “individual lighting”. They fully explored LED technology and the use of indirect light, “as we love to supply light, at the same time we love to hide its source”. The decorative lights have no visible wiring, all is perfectly integrated in the furniture. Inspired by innovation, the designers were helped further with making choices and matching colours. This translated itself in the use of several special materials and finishes. They also looked at their heritage and mixed some great materials from the far past with state of the art materials as decorative panels in furniture and walls in spaces for bathing and recreation.

For Luxury Projects, caring for each unique client means producing top class results. Their mission is to translate emotions and desires into physically beautiful forms as clients think them, see them, want them. With a passion for creativity and perfection, their skills are focused on designing bespoke and timeless projects for life. Continuously striving for new innovative and technological solutions, these are the key-words of Luxury Projects. Their projects always combine a creative timeless approach with a signature elegant and luxurious style resulting in unique design solutions.

“MY Moonstone has been an amazing experience as a first Dutch yacht build from scratch. From creating a concept for a yacht to be built on speculation, trying to imagine and create the best interiors selling points, to the new Owners selected bespoke LP designed lose furniture, lights, linens, accessories and delivered in less than four months. A real challenge with a great success. It’s amazing what we achieved. The result is all we have dreamed of, and we are so very proud,” Laura Pomponi.

The 85m Wanderlust, built and launched by Australian shipyard SilverYachts in 2022, is part of the Silver World Explorer series of all-aluminium expedition yachts. A tough, naval-looking exterior belies Wanderlust’s interior luxury.

Showcasing bright, clean and modern interior spaces that instantly create a zen-like atmosphere onboard – from the 11-meter beam, high-ceiling lounge area to the opulent and tranquil winter garden – the yacht is home to an abundance of sumptuous and spacious areas where guests can kick back, relax and socialise.

The distinctive superyacht is the second iteration of the militant and utilitarian series, following on from her iconic and polarising sistership Bold. Wanderlust certainly stands out in a crowd with her confident profile and instantly recognisable triangular main deck glazing. Much like her predecessor, Wanderlust features an exterior design and naval architecture penned by internationally renowned designer Espen Øino.

Although Wanderlust has been designed as a sports activity vessel (SAV), SilverYachts has made a few exterior design tweaks to dampen the military aesthetic and her interior was penned by Vain Interiors. One of the outstanding features of the SilverYachts’ explorer series is the huge outdoor areas that can be found on all three decks.

The motor yacht features plenty of main deck glazing alongside the band of privacy glass that encircles the loft on the upper deck with an interactive ceiling. The winter

garden space of Wanderlust includes floorto-ceiling glass that slides away to create a remarkable open-air shaded terrace. The loft and wintergarden change the tone of the yacht, from rugged Navy vessel to Starship Enterprise.

Up top on the bridge deck, the roof of the wintergarden has been turned into a dining and socialising space. It can be protected with awnings and fitted with loungers. Forward, there is a dining area and an aftfacing bar/service station. This could easily be a place to spend an entire day.

Guests are also able to enjoy the zen-like atmosphere of her high-ceiling sky lounge forward with a huge screen on which guests can watch the mesmerising dolphin cam in the bow. Wanderlust boasts an impressive 11-metre beam with the space offering plenty of sumptuous seating areas.

Wanderlust has been built to accommodate up to 12 guests across eight contemporary staterooms. An entire private deck is reserved for the owner, and besides the luxurious cabin with double bed in the centre, en-suite bathroom and private office, they are able to enjoy the winter garden with floor-to-ceiling glass that slides away and turns the space into an open-air shaded terrace, as well as a private lounge and dining area. The rest of the guest suites, located on the main deck, are equally lavish and comfortable, finished in neutral tones with a contemporary aesthetic.

On the main deck, there are no social areas, save for the aft deck which houses tenders

and the helipad. All guest space is for the remaining staterooms: four guest cabins and three VIP cabins – including a main deck VIP as well as a convertible double to twin stateroom – all of which are ensuite and tastefully appointed. To ensure all the guests’ needs are met, Wanderlust is able to carry a crew of 21.

Another signature of the yacht’s design is the 400 square meter aft deck which allows storage for tenders of up to 15 meters. This area can also double up as a helipad and when guests want to use this space as another living area, her sides also fold down to create outstanding panoramic views and even more versatile space for games, entertainment and relaxation onboard. At anchor with the sides down, a floating tender bay can be deployed, creating a giant water sports centre.

Wanderlust is able to exceed the expectations of guests with a stunning glass-fronted Jacuzzi and alfresco dining on her sundeck. Her upper deck offers more open-air dining experiences with a bar and barbeque, and a huge sun lounge aft.

The main deck of the Wanderlust yacht includes an outdoor cinema for those perfect movie nights under the stars. The main deck is also fitted with sound, media and light systems for disco nights, making it the total entertainment package.

Showcasing meticulous craftsmanship coupled with high-end luxurious finishes, expedition yacht Wanderlust certainly has the “wow” factor.
