In a world where everything is on hand and available, how do we select? Word of mouth recommendations have always been important, but with so much choice, and information so easily accessible, it is perhaps more important than ever to get real recommendations. At design et al, we work with some of the world’s leading designers in all areas of design; from superyachts and private aviation to residential and hotel design – and we ask the experts for their personal endorsements. In this way our information is current, relevant and always evolving.
From their long lists, we will select our key pieces and collections each month and bring them to you in a digital format. We will also share this digital format with the global designers and readers we work with. Some months, design et al recommends will also feature in the issue of design et al for that month.

Moderne Tapestry
Fromental’s Moderne collection is a paean to the bold, quirky, folksy pottery coming out of the French town of Vallauris in the 1960s and 70s. They have reimagined the joyously abstract forms associated with this period of ceramics as a largescale tapestry wall hanging.
Naturally they could not resist using shimmering silver lurex threads to contrast with the wonderful natural tones of undyed wool.
When weaving at scale one is forced to use wool from several dye batches, which will vary somewhat in colour. Fromental have encouraged their embroiderers to embrace these natural variations with open arms. Not only does this ‘no waste’ approach add life to the finished tapestry, but it also makes each piece unique.
