A note from

Joanne...

As spring is now just about here in the northern hemisphere, it is a time for growth, new life and new shoots of hope. In times of global disruption and complexity, we need this seasonal reset and new start to spur us all on and so each year as we publish The Superyacht & Aviation Edit, I think of it as a landmark in the year - a point at which winter has truly shaken off its grips and we can push ahead with the excitement of the season before us.

The Superyacht & Aviation Edit is a book of light, hope, vision and direction. We have selected some of the most inspirational projects from the superyacht and private aviation design sectors which are truly visionary.

This year, however, there is a slight change to the usual format

of previous issues; whilst we are concentrating on key projects, this year we have also taken the time to talk to some of the world’s leading design experts in their respective fields. They talked about their work, their vision for the future and the effect of the advance of technology, in particular artificial intelligence, on the industry as a whole. We are delighted to share their thoughts and perspectives with you here.

As we move closer to The International Yacht & Aviation Awards, in Monaco in June, next month we will bring you a preawards issue and the opportunity to view selected shortlisted entries ahead of voting opening in May.

Until then... take care

Joanne

A MASTERCLASS IN SHIPBUILDING EXCELLENCE

KISMET BY LÜRSSEN

“Inside KISMET, Reymond Langton Design has crafted a journey through time and space, blending Art Deco grandeur with modern sophistication.”

In April 2024, the renowned shipbuilder Lürssen unveiled its latest masterpiece, Project JAG, now christened KISMET, to her delighted owners. As the third yacht commissioned by this experienced and loyal client, KISMET had big shoes to fill following the success of its predecessor. With the technical expertise of the Lürssen shipyard, the exterior brilliance of Nuvolari Lenard, and the interior genius of Reymond Langton Design, KISMET has surpassed all expectations, setting a new standard for luxury and innovation in shipbuilding.

“To execute such a comprehensive project, an excellent team is necessary,” says Peter Lürssen, Managing Partner at Lürssen. “We are very proud of KISMET as yet another statement of Lürssen’s ability and desire to build yachts that meet all of our exacting Owners’ requirements, guided by our core focus of expert engineering, beautiful design, and being at the forefront in developing sustainable technologies.”

Measuring an impressive 122 meters in length and boasting a gross tonnage of 4,918 GT, KISMET showcases groundbreaking engineering and design elements. One of the most striking features is her innovative propulsion system, enabling up to 15 minutes of cruising powered solely by electricity. This cutting-edge technology highlights Lürssen’s commitment to sustainability without compromising performance or luxury.

KISMET’s design is defined by its bold use of glass. Among the most remarkable achievements is the 4.9 x 1.3-meter single pane of structural glass fitted on the transom – the largest of its kind ever installed on a yacht. Achieving this feat required a year and a half of rigorous stress and pressure testing with classification societies and manufacturers. This immense piece of glazing, along with the yacht’s seamless blend of glass windows and structural materials, creates an unparalleled aesthetic. The glass elements allow natural light to flood the interiors while offering breathtaking views from nearly every angle.

Incorporating 13-centimeter-thick glass into areas such as the Nemo Lounge ensures both strength and clarity, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in ship design. The exterior’s fluid integration

of glass and steel is complemented by unique jaguar motifs, a nod to the Owner’s connection to the Jacksonville Jaguars NFL team. These details, including a striking silver jaguar figurehead and American football-themed elements, imbue the yacht with personality and narrative.

Nuvolari Lenard’s exterior work is a testament to the power of collaboration and vision. “KISMET is rich in shapes and choice of materials,” says Carlo Nuvolari. “The Owner’s technical knowledge and passion allowed us to propose bold ideas that were understood and appreciated from functional, stylistic, and technical perspectives.” An exceptional example of this is the intricate patterning on the aft decks and mast, created with welded steel grooves that were meticulously faired and painted.

Inside KISMET, Reymond Langton Design has crafted a journey through time and space, blending Art Deco grandeur with modern sophistication. “The Owners and guests should find their way and recognise each area by its design, experiencing many different journeys,” explains Pascale Reymond. The interiors draw inspiration from the opulence of Versailles’ Hall of Mirrors to the glamour of 1920s Hollywood.

The top deck exemplifies versatility and luxury. Forward lies a large Jacuzzi, surrounded by sunbeds that double as outdoor beds for stargazing. The deck also features a stone-topped dining table for 14, complete with three television screens, a bar, a beer fridge, and a gas-fired pizza oven – creating the perfect social space. A DJ station, outdoor cinema, and relaxation area with hammocks further enhance this adaptable area.

The bridge deck’s centrepiece is the dark leather-clad bridge, equipped with stateof-the-art navigation systems. The guest elevator, adorned with bespoke eglomise artwork by Miriam Ellner, connects this deck to others below. A descending staircase is flanked by a striking art installation featuring bronze-coloured pipe light fixtures and Venetian fabric panels that shift from sky blue to dark green.

The pool deck is home to an 11-meter mosaic-lined swimming pool with a cascading waterfall and massage jets. The adjacent dining area, complete with

a Teppanyaki station and bar-height dining table, is both functional and stylish. Inside, the pool deck lounge channels an Ibiza beach club aesthetic, with ivory limestone floors, white leather walls, and a Calacatta marble bar. A hidden LED panel transforms the space into a vibrant disco at night.

The master suite spans over half of the interior guest space on its deck, showcasing cream merino wool carpets, high-gloss walnut marquetry, and embroidered feature walls. The opulent design is enriched by a gas fireplace, red and gold curtains, and a skylight framed by Art Deco panels. Adjacent to the suite, a private exterior area features a Jacuzzi, sunbathing spaces, and a convertible helipad that can also serve as a basketball or pickleball court.

His-and-hers bathrooms and dressing rooms offer bespoke luxury, with ivory onyx mosaics, embossed leather walls, and floral-themed Crystal Caviar mirrors. The private beauty room and boudoir, adorned with Sahara Noir marble and embroidered silk wall panels, further enhance the master suite’s exclusivity.

A 4.5-meter gold and crystal chandelier spans three decks, anchoring the central atrium. This feature pays homage to Versailles’ Hall of Mirrors while embracing a contemporary aesthetic. Surrounding mirrors amplify the chandelier’s brilliance, creating a mesmerising focal point.

Forward of the pool deck lies the Owner’s office, a masculine space characterised by black and silver tones, Dark Macassar Ebony wood, and a striking red L-shaped sofa. With 180-degree views, a skylight, and access to private side decks, the office is both a functional workspace and a luxurious retreat. Convertible sofas and a full-service bathroom add practicality to the design.

KISMET is more than a yacht; it is a floating masterpiece that blends engineering ingenuity with unparalleled luxury. From its groundbreaking glass installations to its opulent interiors, every detail has been meticulously crafted to create a vessel that challenges convention and redefines excellence. For Lürssen, Nuvolari Lenard, and Reymond Langton Design, KISMET represents the pinnacle of their collaborative vision, ensuring her place as an icon in the world of superyachts.

THE DESIGNERS CHANGING THE YACHTING INDUSTRY

Whether we are talking Superyachts, Megayachts or Gigayachts, technology is advancing and design companies are making great strides to incorporate it into their work, without compromising their creativity and individuality. The question of how artificial intelligence is changing our working lives, and how it will re-shape them in the future, is currently an infinite one. We spoke to twelve of the world’s leading design companies in this sector, about their work, their design philosophies and outlook, their current projects , those in the pipeline and, of course, the effects of artificial intelligence on their work and the yacht industry in general terms.

“great design is about balance – merging aesthetics with functionality, tradition with innovation, and creativity with responsibility.”

Luca Dini, Founder of Luca Dini Design & Architecure

Can you briefly explain your background in design and your current role?

My journey into design began with my architectural studies at the University of Florence, where I specialised in yacht design. During my university years, I had the opportunity to work at a prestigious architectural firm in Florence, renowned not only for its architecture but also for its contributions to yacht design. At the time, in 1987, I knew very little about yachting, but I was curious. Having spent summers on boats with my family purely for leisure, I had never considered a career in yacht design. However, when the firm offered me a role in this sector, I embraced the challenge.

After a year of balancing my studies with work, I made the decision to fully dedicate myself to the profession, leaving university to gain handson experience. I remained with the firm for nine years before establishing my own studio. For almost 30 years, my focus was exclusively on yacht design, but in 2016, I expanded the practice to include residential and hospitality architecture. Today, our studio maintains an even split between yachting and architectural projects, with a team of approximately 65 professionals based in Florence.

Could you elaborate on your current work?

While our studio has grown significantly, my goal has always been to maintain a boutique approach. I firmly believe in preserving the essence of a design studio rather than becoming a large-scale industry operation. I want my team to have the freedom to choose projects that inspire us, rather than being compelled to accept every commission that comes our way.

Visitors to our office quickly recognise that we operate differently from traditional architectural firms. Our foundation in yacht design has shaped our approach to architecture, creating a unique perspective. Unlike the conventional trajectory where designers transition from land to sea, our evolution has been the reverse – bringing the principles of yacht design to land-based projects. This distinctive approach influences everything we do, and it is something I am keen to preserve as we continue to grow.

Are there any specific projects you can discuss?

On the architectural side, we are engaged in projects across several regions, including a high-rise development in Miami, significant ventures in Albania – an emerging hub for architectural innovation – and projects in Saudi Arabia and Israel. Albania, in particular, is poised to become a key market in Europe, with many major architectural firms now contributing to its rapid development.

In yachting, we currently have 12 yachts under construction across multiple shipyards and countries. Tomorrow, I will be traveling to the Netherlands, where six of these projects are underway. Each yacht is unique, embodying the highest level of craftsmanship and innovation. What makes this work particularly exciting is the diversity in shipyard practices. For instance, while Italian yards tend to be more flexible in their approach, Dutch shipyards are highly structured and meticulously organised. Understanding these cultural and operational differences enriches our expertise and keeps our team adaptable.

What inspires and motivates you in your career?

For me, curiosity is the driving force behind great design. A designer must be naturally inquisitive – success cannot be fuelled purely by financial gain or personal ego.

When I first started working in Saudi Arabia a decade ago, the country was vastly different from what it is today. My motivation for entering this market was not just professional, but personal – I was eager to understand the culture and its architectural traditions. Similarly, when we began working in Albania, I was fascinated by the country’s rich yet often overlooked history. Albania is just a short flight from Italy, yet until recently, it remained largely unfamiliar to many architects. Discovering new places, materials, and traditions keeps our work fresh and dynamic.

How do you see the future of design evolving, particularly from an aesthetic, technological, or environmental perspective?

Today, architects and designers bear a responsibility that extends beyond aesthetics. Sustainability and environmental considerations must be integral to every project. In our studio, we incorporate specialists in engineering, environmental sustainability, and materials science to ensure that each design respects both the client’s vision and the broader world.

That being said, I am not dogmatic about sustainability. While it is crucial to use eco-friendly materials whenever possible, we must also acknowledge practical limitations. If a project demands specific materials due to technical constraints, we must balance sustainability with functionality. The key is to make informed choices – using local materials where possible and understanding the cultural and environmental context of each project.

Ultimately, great design is about balance – merging aesthetics with functionality, tradition with innovation, and creativity with responsibility. This philosophy guides every project we undertake, ensuring that our work remains both relevant and timeless.

“We’re inspired by dynamic projects with visionary clients who push design boundaries. A great example is Seawolf X, which pioneers sustainability and technology. Rossinavi’s Blue Technology, a fully hybrid electric system, allowed us to reimagine the yacht’s interior with a sustainable focus. We carefully considered material sustainability and recyclability, selecting locally sourced products where possible.”

Will Meyer & Gray Davis, Founders, and Nancy Santorelli, Associate Principal of Meyer Davis

Can you share a bit about your background in design and your current roles at Meyer Davis?

We founded Meyer Davis 25 years ago, so marking a significant milestone this year. We’ve built a reputation for designing high-end hotels, restaurants, flagship fashion stores, luxury residences, and bespoke homes worldwide. Completing our first luxury yacht made this year particularly special. This was our first yacht project, making it an exciting milestone. We launched it at the Monaco Yacht Show, where it was recognised as one of the top ten yachts to premiere. The overwhelmingly positive reception was incredibly rewarding.

What projects are you currently working on? Are there plans to design more yachts or venture into aviation?

We enjoyed collaborating with Rossinavi on Seawolf and look forward to more opportunities in the sector. We’re in the early stages of concept design for another one. We’d love to work in aviation – it would be another exciting milestone.

Beyond yachting, we’re designing a Four Seasons resort in Croatia, a resort within the Red Sea Development in Saudi Arabia and renovating a hotel in Sardinia – all accessible by yacht. Additionally, we’re working on luxury residences in South Florida, extending the journey from the Mediterranean to Miami and the Caribbean.

Is the luxury market in Miami still booming?

Absolutely. South Florida is experiencing incredible growth, with significant migration to the area. Every major luxury brand – Cipriani, Four Seasons, Rosewood, St. Regis, Ritz-Carlton – has a presence here. We’re working on a major tower for Baccarat, which is particularly exciting.

Meyer Davis has a diverse portfolio. What drives you to work across so many sectors?

Many firms specialise in a niche, but we thrive on diversity – hotels, resorts, branded and private residences, yachts, and furniture collections. Our team enjoys the creative challenge of designing unique projects rather than repeating a formula, keeping our work fresh and innovative.

What inspires and motivates your work?

We’re inspired by dynamic projects with visionary clients who push design boundaries. A great example is Seawolf X, which pioneers sustainability and technology. Rossinavi’s Blue Technology, a fully hybrid electric system, allowed us to reimagine the yacht’s interior with a sustainable focus. We carefully considered material sustainability and recyclability, selecting locally sourced products where possible. Naturally fire-retardant wool was another key choice, blending safety with eco-consciousness. Ultimately, Seawolf X represents the future of

yachting – luxury with a responsible approach.

How did you balance residential, hospitality, and nautical design in your first yacht project?

We explored the intersection of hospitality, residential, and nautical design, avoiding preconceptions. This approach resulted in a refined, serene interior with understated luxury. Since Seawolf X is available for charter, we aimed for a floating oasis – blending the comfort of a resort, the warmth of a home, and the functionality of a cutting-edge vessel.

What are your thoughts on the future of design in this sector?

AI will play a significant role across private residences, yachts, and hospitality. AI-driven automation will enhance comfort, energy efficiency, and sustainability, creating seamless, intelligent designs.

Wellness is another major focus, becoming integral to luxury living. We’re seeing increased demand for wellness-driven features like cold plunges, infrared saunas, and holistic health amenities. One of our most exciting collaborations is with The Well, a wellness club expanding into branded residences. We’re designing two of their upcoming residential towers in Bay Harbor Islands and Coconut Grove, with a third project in early discussions.

What excites you about the design industry today?

The diversity of challenges and opportunities keeps us engaged. Repeating the same type of project would stifle creativity, so we constantly push boundaries, explore new design languages, and tailor each project to its specific context and vision.

One defining characteristic of Meyer Davis is that we don’t follow a singular style. Instead, we adapt to the project’s unique narrative, ensuring fresh challenges and continued learning, which keeps our approach innovative and dynamic.

What are your thoughts on the future of design in this sector?

Beyond AI and smart technology, we see a growing convergence between nautical, residential, and hospitality design. This shift will lead to more seamless, experiential spaces prioritising sustainability, wellness, and personalisation.

Additionally, meaningful travel is becoming a priority. Clients want immersive, intentional experiences – whether at a resort, on a yacht, or in a residence. Sustainability, environmental consciousness, and wellness will continue shaping luxury design, fostering more thoughtful and forward-thinking projects.

Ultimately, what excites us most is the unknown – the new frontiers of design we have yet to explore.

Piero Lissoni, Architect, Art Director & Designer at Lissoni & Partners

“Our designs for Sanlorenzo are not dictated by individual clients but are purely conceptual, reflecting the DNA of the shipyard. Unlike traditional yacht design, where an owner’s personal taste drives the aesthetic, we create a vision that embodies the brand’s philosophy.”

Could you tell us about your background and your role in yacht design?

I am an architect first and foremost. At Lissoni & Partners, we work across various disciplines – architecture, interiors, product design, branding, and beyond. My role as an art director and designer for Sanlorenzo is a natural extension of my architectural practice. When I began collaborating with Sanlorenzo, my approach was not to design a yacht in the conventional sense but to apply architectural principles to redefine spaces, proportions, and the relationship between interiors and exteriors. I see yachts as floating buildings, where the interplay of structure, mechanics, and spatial flow must be treated with the same rigor as any architectural project.

What sets your work with Sanlorenzo apart from traditional yacht design?

Our designs for Sanlorenzo are not dictated by individual clients but are purely conceptual, reflecting the DNA of the shipyard. Unlike traditional yacht design, where an owner’s personal taste drives the aesthetic, we create a vision that embodies the brand’s philosophy. A key innovation has been moving away from compartmentalised cabins towards open, flowing spaces that maximise connection with the sea and natural light. A yacht should not feel like a confined interior – it should breathe, offering a seamless experience between inside and outside.

What are you currently working on?

We are developing three new Sanlorenzo models, ranging from 30 to 65 meters. Each introduces a new perspective on luxury, functionality, and sustainability. Every project is an opportunity to push boundaries, whether through innovative layouts, material applications, or technological advancements.

What inspires your design approach?

Inspiration is never singular – it comes from a wide spectrum of influences: art, cinema,

music, literature, travel, and even the imperfections of daily life. Design is not about decoration; it is about creating a cultural and emotional experience. I strive for elegance, not excess. True beauty lies in simplicity, balance, and a sense of harmony.

How do you see yacht design evolving in the future?

Sustainability is no longer optional – it is imperative. We have been exploring alternative propulsion systems, such as hydrogen and methanol, to reduce environmental impact. This shift has also led to new spatial configurations, as engine placement and mechanical infrastructure evolve. Aesthetically, I foresee a return to rationality: cleaner lines, fewer decorative distractions, and a focus on purity in design.

Does sustainability influence the visual language of yacht design?

Absolutely. When you change the way a yacht is powered, you change its entire structure. For example, repositioning engines alters interior layouts, opening up new design possibilities. This is not just an environmental consideration – it is a design revolution.

What excites you most about your current work?

We are in a moment of transformation. Beyond individual projects, we are shaping the future identity of Sanlorenzo – defining what the brand will represent in 2030. This requires not only technical innovation but also a profound rethinking of luxury, experience, and responsible design.

Any final thoughts?

Design is never a solo endeavour. It thrives on collaboration, discussion, and the exchange of ideas. The best creativity emerges from strong teamwork, where different perspectives come together to push boundaries. That is where true innovation happens.

“I

firmly believe that human touch and craftsmanship will always take precedence over digitalisation. While virtual design processes are invaluable, they must complement – rather than replace – the artistry of physical creation. The real magic happens when designers, artisans, and engineers collaborate to bring a vision to life.”

Cristiano Gatto, Founder of Cristiano Gatto Design

Can you provide an overview of your background in design and your current role?

My journey into design began with a deep-rooted passion for art. Initially, I pursued painting and sculpture at the Academy of Art, drawn to the way materials could be manipulated to express emotion and meaning. The academy provided access to an extensive range of materials – wood, marble, glass, and more – allowing me to experiment and refine my approach. Simultaneously, I trained in restoration, studying both the creation and preservation of artistic works.

My transition into design was sparked by a fascination with the intersection of craftsmanship and industrial production. I saw design as a way to merge artistic sensibilities with functionality, creating objects and spaces that embody both form and purpose. Over time, my interests led me to yacht design, where I collaborated with a colleague working on technical blueprints. That partnership evolved, and in 2000, I established Cristiano Gatto Design.

Today, my work spans multiple disciplines – yachting, residential, hospitality, and industrial design. While superyachts remain at the heart of my business, I continue to explore new frontiers, always searching for innovative ways to create beauty. I believe that beauty has the power to elevate the human experience, and that philosophy guides every project I undertake.

What are you currently working on?

At the moment, we are engaged in a diverse range of projects across four continents and 11 countries. In the superyacht sector, we are designing both interiors and exteriors for multiple vessels, including fully custom projects and series-produced models. We have three yachts under construction, including Project Orion and Project Sophia, as well as new designs for Gulf Craft.

Beyond yachting, our studio is deeply involved in residential and hospitality projects. We are finalising a luxury penthouse in Miami, as well as hotel lobbies and restaurants in the region. Additionally, we are designing a community centre that includes a temple space. In the Middle East, we are working on several high-end residences and exclusive parlours in Dubai.

We recently expanded our expertise into bespoke upholstery and soft furnishings, establishing an in-house workshop dedicated to research and development. This new initiative allows us to craft exclusive elements, from cushions and linens to custom exterior furniture, which will be introduced as part of a new brand in late 2025.

What inspires and motivates you?

Curiosity has always been my driving force. I constantly seek new materials, techniques, and perspectives, which is why I travel extensively. Every destination offers insight into different interpretations of beauty. Most recently, I visited Kurdistan, exploring its cultural aesthetics and craftsmanship.

Venice, my hometown, remains my greatest source of inspiration. It is both my anchor and my muse. Whenever I need to reconnect with my creative core, I return home, walk along its canals, observe the interplay of light and architecture, and immerse myself in the timeless elegance of the city. Even something as simple as a conversation with an elderly local can offer profound inspiration.

For me, beauty is not limited to design – it extends to the small details of life. Whether plating a dish for guests or refining the finishing touches on a yacht’s interior, aesthetics play a fundamental role in shaping experiences. I believe that beauty has the power to remind us of our humanity, elevating the ordinary into something extraordinary.

What are your thoughts on the future direction of design, from an aesthetic, technological, or environmental perspective?

Predicting the future of design is a challenge, but one thing is certain: we are in an era of eclecticism. There are multiple design directions unfolding simultaneously, and I see this as a positive evolution.

Technology continues to revolutionise design, offering new tools and possibilities. However, I firmly believe that human touch and craftsmanship will always take precedence over digitalisation. While virtual design processes are invaluable, they must complement – rather than replace – the artistry of physical creation. The real magic happens when designers, artisans, and engineers collaborate to bring a vision to life.

Sustainability is an essential consideration for the future. We must continue developing materials and processes that minimise environmental impact without compromising luxury. Innovation in ecofriendly solutions is not just a trend; it is a necessity.

Ultimately, the future of design lies in balance – between tradition and innovation, craftsmanship and technology, aesthetics and function. By remaining engaged in the present and embracing new ideas, we can shape a future that is as inspiring as it is responsible.

Enrico Bonetti, Co-Founder of Bonetti/Kozerski Architecture

Could you briefly explain your background in design and your current role?

“good design takes time. Historically, great architecture and objects were carefully considered, but today’s industry trends favour speed over depth. AIgenerated concepts further accelerate this process, sometimes at the expense of originality. We hope to see a renewed appreciation for thoughtful, time-honed design.”

I trained as an architect in Venice, Italy, and began my career working there before relocating to New York. My move was originally personal, but professionally, it was a leap of faith – I left my job in Italy without a position lined up in New York. In the 1990s, I worked for Peter Marino, where I met my current business partner. We shared a similar design philosophy, and in 2000, we founded our firm, specialising in high-end residential and retail projects.

A few years ago, we had the opportunity to collaborate with Benetti. At the time, they were looking to bring fresh perspectives from outside the traditional yacht design sphere. Our experience with private clients – many of whom charter yachts – gave us insight into their frustrations, particularly with overly complex layouts and interiors that felt disconnected from land-based living. Our first project with Benetti was the Oasis 40M, a bold departure from conventional yacht design. Initially, it faced resistance internally, but we believed in creating something new for a future client base, rather than catering only to existing expectations. The success of the Oasis line, with approximately 50 units sold, validated our approach and demonstrated that timeless, refined, yet relaxed design resonates globally.

What are you currently working on?

In September, we presented the Byond Series at the Monaco Yacht Show, including the Byond 40M and Byond 57M, both steel-hulled yachts, which mark a departure from the fiberglass Oasis line. Additionally, we are working on a new series for Benetti, though details remain confidential. Beyond yachting, we have diverse projects underway: residential developments in California and Tuscany, a luxury spa in Ibiza, a new building in Manhattan, and several highend hospitality projects.

Maintaining a varied portfolio was not a deliberate strategy, but it has proven advantageous, particularly in times of market

fluctuation. It also keeps our work exciting – specialisation can be limiting, whereas a multidisciplinary approach allows us to crosspollinate ideas and bring fresh solutions to different sectors.

What are your thoughts on the future direction of yacht design?

We believe good design takes time. Historically, great architecture and objects were carefully considered, but today’s industry trends favour speed over depth. AI-generated concepts further accelerate this process, sometimes at the expense of originality. We hope to see a renewed appreciation for thoughtful, timehoned design.

From a technological and environmental standpoint, the industry is making strides in sustainability. Innovations in hybrid propulsion systems allow yachts to operate in ‘hotel mode’ without emissions. While a completely ecological yacht remains a challenge, progress is being made, particularly in sailing yachts with reduced fuel consumption.

What excites you most about working in yacht design?

One of the most rewarding aspects is collaborating with artisans – craftspeople who have honed their skills over generations. We work closely with specialists in woodwork, stone, and metal from Italy and across Europe, incorporating their expertise into our projects. This artisanal approach allows us to create distinctive, high-quality interiors that set our work apart.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Our work often extends beyond yachts – many yacht clients later commission us for private residences. Designing for someone involves deeply understanding their preferences and lifestyle, much like a psychologist might. This familiarity fosters long-term collaboration, allowing us to create spaces that feel truly personal and tailored to their needs.

Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta, Founders of Officina Italiana Design

Can you tell us about your background in design?

“The industry is shifting from yachts as status symbols to intimate spaces for family enjoyment. Owners increasingly value a seamless blend of luxury and functionality—boats designed as second homes rather than showcases.”

Mauro Micheli is the Chief Designer at Officina Italiana Design, while I, Sergio Beretta, serve as CEO. Our backgrounds complement each other—Mauro’s expertise lies in design, while mine is in business and administration. Mauro initially aspired to be an artist and studied fine art, but a turning point came when Riva launched a contest seeking a designer. Out of 200 applicants, Mauro won, discovering his natural talent for yacht design in the process. Over the next decade, he became increasingly involved in shaping the brand’s aesthetic. In 1994, we combined our strengths—Mauro in design and myself in business—to establish Officina Italiana Design. That marked the beginning of our journey, and 30 years later, we remain the exclusive designers for Riva’s entire yacht production.

What projects are you currently working on?

We are working on several exciting projects. One of the most notable is Riva’s largest-ever superyacht, a 70-meter vessel sold last year. We are responsible for the exterior design of this milestone project. Additionally, we designed a 54-meter superyacht, which will launch this August. Three units have already been sold, and negotiations are underway for a fourth—an indication of the strong demand for this model even before it hits the water.

Riva is unique in that it produces yachts ranging from 27 feet to 210 feet. Our work spans both the series production and the bespoke superyacht division. While we occasionally introduce minor refinements to existing models, our philosophy prioritises timeless design over fleeting trends. Our goal is to make Riva yachts enduringly elegant, incorporating only subtle updates that enhance their contemporary appeal without altering their signature aesthetic.

What inspires and drives your design work?

Art is our primary source of inspiration—both contemporary and classical. Mauro and I are avid collectors of contemporary art, but we also appreciate the artistic mastery of the past. We encourage our team to seek inspiration beyond the nautical industry, whether through art, architecture, or cultural exploration. Travel plays a significant role in broadening our perspective, particularly in interior design, where understanding different lifestyles and living spaces enriches our approach. For us, design is an aesthetic exploration, a balance of lines, colours, and composition that transcends mere function.

How do you see the future of yacht design evolving?

The industry is shifting from yachts as status symbols to intimate spaces for family enjoyment. Owners increasingly value a seamless blend of luxury and functionality— boats designed as second homes rather than showcases. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated this trend, as many turned to yachting as a private and secure retreat.

Technological advancements are also shaping the future, optimising onboard space and enhancing efficiency. Even in the largest yachts, every meter counts, and innovations in materials and systems allow us to maximise living areas. Artificial intelligence will likely play a significant role, not only in yacht manoeuvrability but also in design. We are actively exploring how AI can enhance our creative process, ensuring that Officina Italiana Design remains at the forefront of the industry’s evolution.

Enrico Gobbi, Owner and Chief Designer of Team For Design

Can you briefly describe your background in design and your current role?

“The future of yacht design is centred on a greater connection with nature, reducing environmental impact, and enhancing onboard comfort. While the technical aspects – such as reducing emissions and increasing efficiency –are largely in the hands of shipyards, we ensure our designs align with these advancements.”

I am the owner and chief designer at Team For Design, where we specialise in both exterior and interior design for superyachts. For over a decade, our studio has focused on large yacht designs, and we also work on high-end residential projects, often luxury villas owned by our yacht clients. My background includes studying architecture at the University of Venice, where I specialised in naval design. With more than 25 years of experience in the field, I lead a highly skilled team of designers and architects who approach each project with an artisan’s attention to detail, making our studio more of an atelier than a conventional design firm.

Can you share what projects you are currently working on?

At the moment, we have seven yacht projects under construction, ranging from 45 to 80 meters in length, with a 90-meter yacht in the design phase. Some of these projects encompass both exterior and interior design. Additionally, we are working on two exclusive residential projects. The larger yacht constructions, including an 80-meter and a 65-meter vessel, are scheduled for delivery in 2027, while smaller yachts are expected to be completed between 2027 and 2028.

Are these yachts being built by the same shipyard?

No, we collaborate with multiple shipyards. Some projects follow similar timelines, meaning we manage the creative design phase and oversee construction simultaneously while also developing new concepts for future commissions.

What inspires and motivates your work?

My inspiration comes from continuous exploration and research. Traveling, experiencing new environments, and observing architectural and artistic trends all inform our designs. Emotion plays a significant role in my creative process, as does nature, which consistently provides fresh perspectives. Venice, where I live and work, is another major

influence. The city’s concentration of worldclass art and architecture offers endless inspiration, and its annual events expose us to innovative concepts beyond yacht design. Additionally, we focus on integrating cuttingedge technology to create forward-thinking, avant-garde designs.

What are your thoughts on the future of yacht design?

The future of yacht design is centred on a greater connection with nature, reducing environmental impact, and enhancing onboard comfort. While the technical aspects – such as reducing emissions and increasing efficiency –are largely in the hands of shipyards, we ensure our designs align with these advancements. On the interior side, we are shifting toward the use of natural materials and a more refined, less ostentatious aesthetic where detail makes the difference. Externally, we emphasise sleek profiles, expansive glazing, and open-platform designs to enhance the connection with the sea, all while maintaining the essential balance of form and function in a moving structure.

What excites you most about your work?

The constant evolution of the yacht design industry is what excites me the most. Every year brings new concepts, challenges, and innovations. Our goal is to create designs that are timeless, rather than following fleeting trends. Since yacht construction can take years, a design must remain relevant not only at launch but for many years after.

Who drives change in the market – designers, clients, or technology?

It’s a combination of all three. Some clients have visionary ideas, while technological advancements introduce new possibilities. As designers, we bridge these elements, integrating innovation with bespoke luxury to create unique, tailor-made projects. Our approach is rooted in craftsmanship – each yacht is a one-of-a-kind creation, much like a couture garment. This philosophy extends to our residential projects as well, ensuring every design is a true reflection of the client’s vision and lifestyle.

“We are in a paradoxical era where contrasting forces shape our industry – heritage
innovation,

versus

tradition versus

disruption. This creates a dynamic and exciting landscape where designers must navigate uncertainty with creativity and adaptability.”

Felix Kilbertus, Chief Creative Officer at Pininfarina

Can you tell us about your background in design and your role at Pininfarina?

As Chief Creative Officer at Pininfarina, my role is broad and multifaceted. My primary responsibility is to unify all creative disciplines under one cohesive vision, fostering the growth of our design teams across various sectors. Pininfarina, with its near-century-long heritage in automotive and transportation design, has expanded significantly into interior spaces and architecture. Our global presence, with studios in Miami, Turin, and Shanghai, allows us to bring a diverse, international perspective to our projects.

My personal background is rooted in automotive design, with over 20 years in the industry. Prior to Pininfarina, I spent six years at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, where I led exterior design. My focus was on creating unique customer experiences and ensuring the brand remained relevant while honouring its storied legacy. This experience has seamlessly translated into my current role, where I help Pininfarina continue its tradition of excellence while evolving to meet the needs of modern clients.

How does your experience at Rolls-Royce compare to your work at Pininfarina?

While Rolls-Royce is an iconic luxury brand with a distinct customer base – surprisingly youthful, with an average client age in the early 40s – Pininfarina operates differently. We are a design service provider, collaborating with a wide range of clients across multiple industries, from ultra-high-end luxury to more accessible, forward-thinking projects.

We partner with renowned names such as Rolls-Royce and leading manufacturers in the ultra-low-volume production sector, while also engaging in broader design fields, including architecture and furniture. This duality has been integral to Pininfarina’s DNA – blending heritage craftsmanship with a forward-thinking, democratic approach to design.

What are some of Pininfarina’s current projects in the yachting sector?

Our work in the nautical industry has been incredibly exciting. One of our key collaborations is with Oceanco, where we have evolved the Kairos concept into the Oceanco 80, a fully customised superyacht that integrates visionary design with tailored luxury. This project exemplifies our commitment to blending aesthetics, functionality, and technological innovation.

We also continue our partnership with Princess Yachts and have recently developed stunning interiors for Elan, showcased at major boat shows. Beyond the ultra-luxury segment, we are collaborating with premium startups like Austin Parker, bringing a fresh perspective to high-end yacht design. It is always rewarding to work with ambitious entrepreneurs eager to make their mark in the industry.

Beyond yachting, what are some of Pininfarina’s standout projects?

Our portfolio is incredibly diverse, spanning across transportation, architecture, and product design. In the automotive sector, our collaboration with Morgan resulted in the Midsummer, a limited-edition vehicle celebrating 200 years of coachbuilding excellence in both Italy and the UK. The model was an instant success, selling out immediately. In aviation, we had the privilege of designing the livery for the Frecce Tricolori, Italy’s renowned aerobatic team. This project combined advanced aerodynamics with bold aesthetics, ensuring that their aircraft not only perform at the highest level but also serve as ambassadors of Italian design and engineering.

One of our more unexpected yet thrilling projects was the development of a fully electric, modernised sleigh for a Swedish company – an example of how we apply our design philosophy to a wide array of mobility solutions. Additionally, we’ve created interactive Formula 1 trophies for Lenovo, integrating technology to display the winning driver’s flag upon contact.

On the technology front, we’ve been working with Foxconn, the Taiwanese tech giant, on their foray into electric mobility. Our recent launch of the Foxtron Model D, a high-tech, fully electric luxury vehicle, demonstrates our ability to bridge automotive and technology-driven design seamlessly.

What inspires and motivates your work?

Inspiration, for me, comes from curiosity and an openness to the world. Nature and art are constant sources of creativity – whether it’s the intricate complexity of natural forms or the avant-garde expressions found in contemporary art and photography. As designers, we are part of the applied arts tradition, where we translate artistic and scientific advancements into functional, meaningful spaces and experiences. Observing these disciplines helps us anticipate trends and shape the future of design.

What are your thoughts on the future of design?

We are in a paradoxical era where contrasting forces shape our industry – heritage versus innovation, tradition versus disruption. This creates a dynamic and exciting landscape where designers must navigate uncertainty with creativity and adaptability. The emphasis on personalisation, sustainability, and intelligent design solutions will continue to drive the industry forward.

At Pininfarina, we embrace this complexity by creating timeless yet future-ready designs. Whether crafting a superyacht, a luxury vehicle, or an architectural masterpiece, our goal remains the same: to design spaces that elevate human experiences while pushing the boundaries of possibility.

Francesca Muzio, Designer, Architect, and Co-Founder of FM Architettura

Can you describe your background in design and your current role?

“We are witnessing a strong shift toward minimalism – not in the sense of stark or cold interiors, but in creating spaces that are refined, functional, and effortlessly luxurious. Clients are increasingly looking for homes and yachts that provide comfort and simplicity, free from unnecessary complexity.”

I am an architect by training, and I approach every project with an architectural mindset. Design, whether a piece of furniture or an entire yacht, must balance function and aesthetics. At FM Architettura, we specialise in bespoke projects across various disciplines, from private residences to hospitality and superyachts. Yachting is a personal passion of mine, rooted in my upbringing near Portofino. The ocean has always been part of my DNA, and I am fascinated by the interplay between architecture, nature, and the experience of travel.

Our studio operates globally, with projects spanning 18 countries, including the U.S., Asia, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Europe. Our philosophy, “I am my home,” reflects our commitment to designing spaces that embody our clients’ lifestyles and cultures. Each project is a dialogue – a fusion of our expertise with the unique needs and aspirations of the client. Currently, we have several significant superyacht projects in development, including eight vessels ranging from 70 to 85 meters for Feadship, as well as commissions with ISG and Tankoa. We also work extensively in northern Europe, combining Italian craftsmanship with a structured, organised approach. Our commitment to cross-disciplinary creativity allows us to bring fresh perspectives to yacht interiors, drawing inspiration from our work in luxury residences and boutique hotels.

Can you share details about some of your current projects?

One of our upcoming deliveries is a 70+ meter Feadship, designed around the concept of dialogue between architecture and fine art. The owner is an avid art collector, so our approach has been to integrate the collection seamlessly into the yacht’s design. We have created furniture and architectural elements that enhance the presence of these masterpieces, ensuring they interact harmoniously with the space.

This project required a reverse design process, where we started with the art and built the interior concept around it. One particularly exciting feature is a custom-designed table that reflects and interacts with a striking piece of art above it, creating a dynamic interplay between the two. This level of personalisation is central to our work, ensuring that each yacht we design is a true extension of its owner’s personality and lifestyle.

What inspires and motivates your work?

Our clients are visionaries, and their ambition continually pushes us to innovate. Each project begins with a conversation, and from there, we explore new materials, technologies, and ideas. Working with such extraordinary individuals is both a privilege and a challenge – one that forces us to expand our creative boundaries. Travel is another key source of inspiration. I spend over 200 days a year exploring different cultures and traditions, which informs our approach to materials, craftsmanship, and design narratives. This constant exposure to diverse influences keeps our work fresh and dynamic.

How do you see the future of yacht design evolving?

We are witnessing a strong shift toward minimalism – not in the sense of stark or cold interiors, but in creating spaces that are refined, functional, and effortlessly luxurious. Clients are increasingly looking for homes and yachts that provide comfort and simplicity, free from unnecessary complexity. Timeless design is inherently sustainable, as it remains relevant and cherished for years.

We also see a growing emphasis on personalisation. Owners want to incorporate meaningful objects – family heirlooms, pieces from previous yachts, or artworks that hold personal significance. This trend aligns with our philosophy: creating spaces that are not only beautiful but also deeply personal and evocative of the owner’s journey.

Jemimah Graff, CEO of Martin Kemp Design

Can you share your background in design and your current role?

“Yachts require an exceptional level of creativity within spatial constraints while meeting performance and luxury demands. It’s an opportunity to influence an industry steeped in tradition yet open to innovation. Collaboration with shipbuilders and clients allows us to push design boundaries...”

When Martin launched Martin Kemp Design in 2011, I joined later as a project manager. As we grew, my role evolved organically, leading to my current position as CEO, where I manage the business strategy. Martin and I often say we are two sides of the same coin – he leads creatively, while I oversee the business.

Are you working on any yachts currently?

Yes, we have a 60-meter superyacht launching in April with Logica Yachts for a repeat client. The design is complete, and we are now in the final dressing stage before it hits the water.

What inspires and drives your work?

The projects themselves are a constant source of inspiration. We are fortunate to work on designs that push boundaries, often beyond what we can share publicly. Our clients trust us to execute bold, imaginative concepts, encouraging us to innovate continuously. One client, in particular, challenges us to go beyond our most elaborate designs. Maintaining strong client relationships is key, as much of our work comes from repeat clients. A residence often leads to designing their yachts or jets.

Would you say your clients inspire you?

Absolutely. Their vision, along with the uniqueness of each project, is incredibly motivating. We are currently working on One Palace Green with Redd, a historic William Morris building. Its legacy influences our design approach, integrating historical significance with modern luxury. Whether it’s an estate in the South of France or a heritage property, each project’s distinctive elements fuel our creativity.

What are your thoughts on the future of design?

We focus on timeless, not trend-led, design. Clients invest significant time and resources,

so our work must endure. Sustainability and adaptability will shape the future, particularly in superyachts. There’s a growing demand for renewable materials, eco-conscious technology, and multifunctional spaces that maintain luxury while being highly functional. Craftsmanship will be prioritised over opulence, ensuring beautifully made interiors rather than merely ostentatious ones.

What excites you about designing for the superyacht sector?

Each project presents a unique challenge. Yachts require an exceptional level of creativity within spatial constraints while meeting performance and luxury demands. It’s an opportunity to influence an industry steeped in tradition yet open to innovation. Collaboration with shipbuilders and clients allows us to push design boundaries, and we are excited about our expanding presence in the marine sector.

How do you see the future of yacht design evolving?

Sustainability is paramount. With tighter regulations and shifting client expectations, designers must integrate luxury with ecoconscious solutions. Designers must lead the way in sustainable solutions while maintaining the highest standards of luxury.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

This year, we are placing greater emphasis on the marine sector, making this interview particularly timely. While we’ve completed several yacht projects, we tend to be quite private as a studio. We hope to share more about our work in this space. Additionally, we are launching a furniture collection exclusively for our existing clients in 2025, with a wider release planned for 2026. It’s an exciting time for us as we expand into new ventures.

“Artificial intelligence is playing a growing role. About five years ago, we began developing AI-driven design tools in collaboration with Southampton University. Today, our proprietary system can generate fully functional hull structures and layouts overnight, producing multiple optimised variations. This streamlines the design process, allowing our team to focus on refining styling, optimising structures, and improving efficiency.”

Justin Olesinski, Managing Director of Olesinski

Can you share a bit about your background in design and your current role?

Design has always been a part of my life. My father founded our company, so I grew up around boats and the design industry. I pursued industrial design at university, which gave me a solid foundation, and after graduating, I worked at my father’s company before transitioning into yacht brokerage. This experience was invaluable – it gave me firsthand insight into not only the operational aspects of yachts but also the clients who purchase them. However, I quickly realised brokerage wasn’t for me.

I then moved into marine journalism, testing boats for Motor Boat Monthly and later another publication focused on larger yachts. This provided exposure to different brands, market trends, and varying design philosophies. Eventually, I returned to our family business and rediscovered my passion for design. I started as a designer and, about ten years ago, my father unexpectedly announced that I would be the new Managing Director. At the time, our team was just nine people; today, we’ve grown to over 20, including structural engineers, naval architects, and designers. I still play an active role in design, particularly in conceptual development and client collaboration, but I now focus heavily on mentoring our team and driving our strategic direction. The majority of our work – about 90% – is with Princess Yachts, and I particularly enjoy those high-intensity initial meetings where we help owners bring their vision to life while ensuring the designs are practical for production.

Is there anything you’re currently working on that you can share?

This year, we have five new builds for Princess Yachts, which is our typical annual output. Additionally, we’re developing a new model for another production yacht company, and we’re set to begin a 65-meter refit project in France.

What inspires and motivates you in your career?

I’m highly competitive and a perfectionist, but I also foster a collaborative environment within our team. I enjoy seeing fresh ideas emerge and guiding the team in refining them. Expanding our refit division has been a major focus, as has diversifying our project portfolio. Breaking into the custom superyacht sector is challenging – many established names have dominated the industry for decades – but we’re making strong progress. Keeping our team engaged and ensuring we maintain a steady

flow of work is also a driving force. During quieter periods, we focus on conceptual projects, which allows us to develop forward-thinking designs that we can present at events like the Monaco Yacht Show.

How do you see the future of yacht design evolving?

Artificial intelligence is playing a growing role. About five years ago, we began developing AI-driven design tools in collaboration with Southampton University. Today, our proprietary system can generate fully functional hull structures and layouts overnight, producing multiple optimised variations. This streamlines the design process, allowing our team to focus on refining styling, optimising structures, and improving efficiency.

Sustainability is another key area. We’re actively exploring hybrid and electric propulsion systems, and while the technology isn’t quite there for all applications, it’s advancing rapidly. Efficiency – both in terms of energy use and production methods – will be a defining factor in future yacht design.

What excites you most about working in yacht design?

The personal aspect is incredibly rewarding. Meeting owners, understanding their lifestyles, and translating that into a design tailored to their needs is a fascinating process. Whether it’s a production yacht or a custom superyacht, seeing a client’s reaction when they step aboard their finished vessel is incredibly fulfilling.

Any final thoughts on the industry’s direction?

The industry is becoming more collaborative, with design studios increasingly working together rather than operating in isolation. Transparency is improving, particularly in sharing insights about shipyards, suppliers, and management companies. However, there are challenges – one major issue is the scarcity of experienced naval architects and structural engineers. The industry needs to address this, whether through better incentives or more efficient design processes.

Additionally, I’m proud to be an ambassador for British Superyacht, an initiative promoting the UK’s presence in the superyacht sector. The organisation has grown rapidly, fostering networking and collaboration within the industry. It’s an exciting time to be involved in yacht design, and I look forward to seeing how the next decade unfolds.

Designing yachts has been a lifelong dream, fuelled by my fascination with the nautical world.”

Can you share a brief overview of your background in design and your current role?

I am the founder of Leonardo Santi Design, a studio specialising in yacht interiors as well as luxury residential and retail projects. My journey in this field began with invaluable experience at the Benetti shipyard, where I started working after my university studies. Over the years, I advanced to oversee the largest production line at the yard, a role that provided me with in-depth knowledge of yacht construction and design.

This experience also allowed me to engage directly with an international clientele, translating their unique visions into tangible designs. Understanding each client’s cultural and personal preferences has shaped my approach, ensuring that every project is both technically refined and deeply personal.

What projects are you currently working on?

I am collaborating with the Baglietto shipyard on the interiors of the latest two hulls in the Dom 133 series. The first, M/Y Jules, was delivered this summer and received great acclaim at the Monaco Yacht Show. The second, M/Y L’Instant, is scheduled for delivery in March. Additionally, I have designed the interiors for the new Dom 115, a 34-meter yacht expected to mirror the success of its larger counterpart. Beyond these, I am engaged in several bespoke projects for private yacht owners, which I look forward to bringing to fruition.

What drives your passion for design?

My relentless pursuit of beauty and balance is at the heart of my work. Every project must not only be aesthetically compelling but also embody the personality and lifestyle of the owner. There is no greater reward than seeing a client resonate with the final creation. Designing yachts has been a lifelong dream, fuelled by my fascination with the nautical

world. The ability to merge technical expertise with artistic vision keeps me continually inspired.

Where do you see the future of yacht design heading in terms of aesthetics, technology, sustainability, and functionality?

The future of yacht design revolves around holistic well-being. Yachts are increasingly becoming extensions of home, tailored to reflect the owner’s lifestyle and values. In the past, luxury was often defined by opulent, uniform aesthetics. Today, true luxury is deeply personal, centred on comfort, tranquillity, and emotional resonance.

Sustainability is also playing a significant role in shaping the industry. Clients are more conscious of their environmental impact, leading to a growing demand for hybrid propulsion systems, eco-friendly materials, and innovative energy solutions. As designers, it is our responsibility to integrate these advancements seamlessly into our creative vision.

What excites you most about working in yacht design?

The constant challenge of innovation excites me the most. Every project is a unique puzzle, crafted to align with the client’s personality, lifestyle, and aspirations. Designing a yacht is akin to tailoring the perfect suit – it must fit flawlessly, both aesthetically and functionally.

How do you envision the future of this sector?

I see yacht design continuing to evolve with an emphasis on well-being, not only in terms of physical comfort but also mental and emotional balance. The ultimate goal is to create onboard environments that enhance the owner’s quality of life, ensuring every journey is an experience of unparalleled beauty and tranquillity.

A MASTERPIECE OF BESPOKE DESIGN AND INNOVATION

DIAMOND BINTA BY TANKOA YACHTS
“The interiors are a masterclass in harmonious design, showcasing a thoughtful combination of materials, textures, and tones.”

Signed in 2021 and delivered in the summer of 2024, Diamond Binta represents the pinnacle of Tankoa Yachts’ bespoke craftsmanship. Unveiled to acclaim at the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show, this 58-metre superyacht epitomises elegance, innovation, and meticulous attention to detail, reflecting the essence of boutique yacht building.

A full-custom project, Diamond Binta was commissioned by a returning client who previously owned the 50-metre Binta d’Or. With a vision for a larger, long-range cruiser that fully expressed the owner’s personality, Tankoa collaborated once again with Francesco Paszkowski Design to create a refined and timeless aesthetic.

“Our design philosophy included the owner’s requests but also extended beyond them,” says Paszkowski. “We emphasised the interplay of architectural forms, extensive wood applications, and a neutral palette to craft spaces that are harmonious and elegant.”

Tankoa’s expertise enabled a seamless transition from concept to reality. “Diamond Binta perfectly showcases why discerning owners choose to build with us,” states Vincenzo Poerio, CEO of Tankoa Yachts. “Her exquisite, refined yet innovative design is a reflection of our craftsmanship and commitment to quality.”

The yacht incorporates hallmark features of modern superyachts while adding unique refinements. A spacious beach club boasts a lounge area, a glass-walled treatment room flooded with natural light from lowered side terraces, and a transom door opening to the sea. A skylight from the main deck enhances the ambiance further.

A striking lower-deck feature showcases the owner’s passion for engineering: a guest corridor lined with panoramic windows provides a view into the pristine engine room, seamlessly integrating technical excellence with aesthetic appeal.

Accommodating up to 12 guests, Diamond Binta offers five guest cabins, including two with Pullman beds. The full-beam master suite, located forward on the main deck, features a starboard-side lounge, study area, and private drop-down terrace. Asymmetric motifs in the carpet and ceiling, alongside intricate cabinetry, add distinctive design touches.

The interiors are a masterclass in harmonious design, showcasing a thoughtful combination of materials, textures, and tones. Designed in collaboration with Margherita Casprini, interiors feature extensive oak applications in varied finishes – striped, glossy, brushed, and dark brown with a ‘tatami’ texture for the flooring. The neutral colour scheme, from dove grey to deeper tones, creates a serene and cohesive ambiance, enriched with luxurious materials such as leather, metal, and glass.

Satin metal profiles embellish living area walls, while custom leather panels in wet sand hues enhance the lobby. Hard leather is used for bespoke bedheads and bases, adding a tactile sophistication. Marble surfaces heighten the yacht’s opulence: Cappuccino marble graces main deck coffee tables, Calacatta marble enriches the lobby, Botticino marble covers dining area floors, and Fior di Bosco marble highlights the bathrooms. Smoked glass doors in the VIP suites and owner’s dressing room introduce a modern edge.

Nearly all furniture is custom designed, including coffee tables, the owner’s office desk, and the galley counter. These bespoke pieces are complemented by high-end furnishings from Minotti, including sofas, armchairs, and dining tables. Poltrona Frau stools add refinement to the galley, which serves as both a guest and owner space – reflecting the owners’ love for cooking. Smooth, rounded lines replace conventional geometric forms, creating a softer aesthetic. Functional elements double as sculptural statements, such as

coffee tables that combine unconventional shapes or segmented pieces into a unified whole. Low furniture with bevelled corners, round sofas, and curved oak walls in the owner’s office further define the yacht’s distinctive character.

Ceiling design plays a crucial role in the yacht’s ambiance. “Lacquered pearl grey and grey-brown panels are paired with integrated LED strips that run along irregular, curved beams,” Paszkowski explains. “This thoughtful lighting highlights key areas, including the main and upper deck lounges and the owner’s suite.”

On the fly deck, a pool with built-in spa jets, designed in-house, is flanked by a custom bar, two round sunbeds, and a generous alfresco lounge and dining area. A central enclosed gym offers panoramic views, with glass doors fore and aft that can be opened for an indoor-outdoor feel or closed for climate control and shade.

The wheelhouse takes design cues from automotive aesthetics, featuring dark brown hard leather accented by subtle red details – creating a balance of elegance and functionality, distinct from the yacht’s softer interiors.

With Diamond Binta, Tankoa Yachts has once again demonstrated its ability to create vessels that are not only functional but also works of art. As the latest addition to the Tankoa family, she represents the pinnacle of modern yacht design – a dazzling example of what can be achieved when passion, innovation, and craftsmanship come together.

REDEFINING LUXURY AVIATION

AFTERGLOW BY JPA DESIGN

“By adopting a bespoke, personalised aesthetic, the design breathes new life into existing aircraft, ensuring they remain desirable, contemporary, and sustainable modes of transportation.”

In a groundbreaking move that reimagines private aviation, global multidisciplinary design studio JPA Design has unveiled “Afterglow,” a visionary retrofit cabin concept. This innovative project marries cutting-edge technology with timeless luxury while placing passenger wellness and sustainability at the heart of the experience.

With the global fleet of private jets doubling over the past two decades, the aviation industry faces a critical juncture. Many operational aircraft feature interiors that are outdated, deteriorating, and unfit for the modern traveller. Sustainability, an increasingly scrutinised element of private aviation, demands solutions beyond merely decommissioning aging jets in favour of new builds – an approach that amplifies waste and exacerbates environmental concerns.

JPA Design envisions a future akin to the commercial aviation sector, where planned retrofits play a pivotal role in extending the lifecycle of aircraft. Their philosophy centres on “re-use rather than replace,” delivering innovative solutions that elevate passenger experience while reducing waste.

“Afterglow” explores the next chapter of private jet cabin design, balancing functionality with a human-centric approach. Central to the concept is the recognition that modern luxury must transcend aesthetics and cater to the physical and emotional well-being of passengers. Key features include the incorporation of biodynamic lighting, sophisticated spatial layouts, and an emphasis on privacy and personalisation.

Lighting, a crucial element in passenger wellness, takes centre stage in this concept. JPA Design meticulously analysed circadian rhythms and designed bespoke lighting systems to simulate natural solar patterns. A standout feature is the wall-mounted orb, which sits behind a frosted pane, glowing to replicate sunrise and sunset. By choreographing light sequences that align with flight times and destination time zones, “Afterglow” reduces jet lag and helps passengers acclimate to their destinations enroute. Creative Director Elliott Koehler encapsulates this vision: “With ‘Afterglow,’ we’re redefining what luxury means in private aviation. True luxury today isn’t just about aesthetic beauty – it’s about creating environments that actively

enhance our passengers’ well-being. Every design decision, from our lighting system to the intuitive cabin layout, serves both form and function.”

“Afterglow” prioritises privacy and comfort without compromising functionality. At the heart of the cabin is a lounge space and adjoining washroom designed in tandem, strategically positioned at the rear of the aircraft to create a secluded, ownable environment. This private retreat includes luxury amenities such as a mini bar, a fulllength wardrobe, ample side furnishings, and a convertible sofa-to-double bed.

The washroom doubles as a changing room and is designed to accommodate access at all times, regardless of the bed configuration. This attention to detail ensures seamless functionality while elevating the overall user experience.

A defining feature of the cabin is the wallmounted orb – a floating light element that exemplifies JPA Design’s commitment to craftsmanship and wellness. This orb works in harmony with the cabin’s lighting system to create optimal conditions for relaxation, sleep, or alertness depending on the time of day and flight itinerary. It’s a signature element that underscores the integration of luxury, technology, and sustainability.

The “Afterglow” cabin excels because it supports a wide range of activities – socialising, relaxing, sleeping, and refreshing – while breaking away from traditional cabin design practices. By adopting a bespoke, personalised aesthetic, the design breathes new life into existing aircraft, ensuring they remain desirable, contemporary, and sustainable modes of transportation.

The departure from legacy design elements in favour of human-centred, innovative features is what makes “Afterglow” so compelling. It’s a space that doesn’t just transport passengers but enriches their journey – an environment designed for connection, restoration, and well-being.

Sustainability is woven into the very fabric of “Afterglow.” By reimagining retrofit designs rather than advocating for new builds, JPA Design addresses the environmental challenges of the private aviation industry. This approach not only reduces waste but also sets a precedent for how the industry can evolve responsibly.

The “Afterglow” project underscores JPA Design’s belief that luxury and sustainability can coexist. Through innovative design solutions, they extend the lifecycle of aircraft while elevating passenger experience, aligning with broader global objectives to minimise environmental impact.

With over three decades of experience, JPA Design is renowned for its multidisciplinary approach to luxury, transportation, interiors, and product design. The studio collaborates with some of the world’s most prestigious brands, crafting environments, vehicles, and products that push the boundaries of innovation.

Their portfolio spans aircraft cabins, premium hotels, VIP lounges, luxury trains, and wellness products, reflecting a commitment to excellence and ingenuity. Operating from offices in London, Singapore, Dubai, and New Zealand, JPA Design continues to lead the charge in creating future-focused solutions for global clients.

“Afterglow” has garnered international acclaim, earning a place on the shortlist for The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2025. Hosted by design et al, this prestigious event celebrates the finest design innovations across aviation and yachting industries. Taking place in Monaco this June, the awards provide an unparalleled platform for showcasing cutting-edge creativity and fostering connections among industry leaders. Elliott Koehler reflects on the significance of the awards: “A well-known showcase of the latest design innovations and trends, the awards are an aspirational platform to raise brand and product awareness. Alongside this, the event itself offers a truly unique opportunity to network with not only other aviation innovators but also leaders from various design fields.”

Through “Afterglow,” JPA Design is not just transforming private jet interiors – they’re redefining the future of luxury aviation. By integrating wellness, sustainability, and bespoke craftsmanship, this innovative concept sets a new benchmark for the industry. As the private aviation sector evolves, JPA Design’s groundbreaking approach serves as a beacon for what’s possible, ensuring that every journey is as enriching as it is luxurious.

A SKYBORNE SANCTUARY

VIP CABIN BY COMLUX
“The interior’s old-world charm is balanced by cutting-edge technology and conveniences, ensuring that it remains both timeless and practical.”

When it comes to elevating air travel into an art form, few designs rival the sophistication of this Airbus cabin. With a classic and chic aesthetic, the space is designed to allow up to 18 passengers to fly in ultimate luxury, blending old-world charm with modern innovation.

The design brief for this extraordinary project was nothing short of ambitious. The Principal envisioned an environment that transcended the traditional aircraft interior, aiming instead for the intimacy and elegance of a private villa. Every detail, from the layout to the material selection, was meticulously considered to reflect this vision.

Upon entering the cabin, passengers are immediately immersed in a world of refined craftsmanship. Raised wood panelling adorns the walls, while handlaid herringbone flooring provides a tactile reminder of traditional artisanship. Hidden wardrobes, camouflaged by decorative panels crafted from custom woven metal by Sophie Mallenbranche Paris, add an element of surprise and elegance.

One of the Principal’s key passions is hosting and entertaining guests, and the cabin’s gourmet kitchen reflects this priority. Designed to mirror the functionality of a professional kitchen, it features inductive cooktops, Nespresso machines, steam ovens, and extra-large chilled storage. This space ensures that even at 35,000 feet, the Principal can prepare and serve lavish meals with ease.

The open-concept floor plan furthers the sense of freedom and spaciousness, inviting passengers to move effortlessly between distinct zones. The cabin includes an intimate library, a versatile game and dining area, and a conference room equipped with a large buffet for

serving. These areas are tied together with thoughtful touches, such as bespoke chandeliers that add a warm ambiance to the space.

Beyond the shared spaces, the interior offers private areas designed for rest and relaxation. A family cinema room, complete with a 55-inch TV and a U-shaped divan that converts into a king-size bed, provides an immersive entertainment experience. This room can be entirely enclosed to ensure privacy and an uninterrupted cinematic atmosphere.

The master retreat is another highlight, offering a serene escape within the cabin. It features a queen-size bed, a cosy sitting area, and an oversized shower, allowing the Principal and guests to relax in comfort and style throughout their journey.

The timeless appeal of the design lies in its attention to detail and use of artisan techniques. Laser-etched, non-textile herringbone flooring exemplifies precision craftsmanship, while the woven metal panels and veneer marquetry showcase the skills of master artisans. The seats, upholstered in embossed leather that has been meticulously hand-embossed, and the hand-tufted carpet add to the cabin’s luxurious feel.

Another standout feature is the buffet face, which has been faux finished to resemble mother-of-pearl stone. This delicate detailing required a specialist’s touch, further enhancing the bespoke nature of the design. Every element works in harmony to create a space that is not only functional but also a celebration of artistry.

The success of this design lies in its ability to seamlessly blend classic elegance with modern functionality. The interior’s

old-world charm is balanced by cuttingedge technology and conveniences, ensuring that it remains both timeless and practical. The open-concept layout fosters a sense of spaciousness, while the private zones offer a haven of tranquillity. This thoughtful integration ensures that the cabin not only meets but exceeds the expectations of its discerning owner and passengers.

The cabin’s timeless appeal is a testament to the enduring power of good design. Every detail, from the intricate craftsmanship to the choice of materials, has been carefully considered to create an interior that will never fade in relevance or beauty. The result is a space that feels as luxurious today as it will decades from now, making it a true masterpiece of aviation design.

This exceptional project has not gone unnoticed. It has been shortlisted for The International Yacht & Aviation Awards 2025, an event hosted by design et al. in Monaco this June. These prestigious awards celebrate the pinnacle of innovation and creativity in the yacht and aviation industries. “The International Yacht & Aviation Awards are important because they continue to highlight innovation and creativity in both the Yacht and Aviation industries,” said the design team. This recognition is a testament to the team’s dedication to excellence and their ability to transform a bold vision into a breathtaking reality.

As the awards ceremony approaches, the Airbus cabin stands as a shining example of what is possible when artistry, craftsmanship, and innovation converge. It is not just an aircraft interior but a floating sanctuary – a villa in the skies – offering unparalleled luxury and comfort to all who step aboard.

A PLACE WHERE

HOSPITALITY, INSPIRATION, AND GRATITUDE MANIFEST

“Every element onboard has been meticulously curated to reflect the owner’s vision of a harmonious, zen-like ambiance that bridges the indoors and outdoors.”

In the world of luxury yachting, Benetti has long established itself as a symbol of timeless style and innovative craftsmanship. Their latest masterpiece, ASANI, is no exception. As the newest addition to the B.Now 50M family, ASANI redefines the boundaries of elegance and functionality, offering a serene yet dynamic retreat on the water. Featuring Benetti’s signature Oasis Deck®, this 50-meter megayacht embodies a seamless blend of modernity, creativity, and a deep connection to nature, making it an unparalleled sanctuary for its discerning owner and guests.

ASANI stands out as a testament to personalised luxury. Every element onboard has been meticulously curated to reflect the owner’s vision of a harmonious, zen-like ambiance that bridges the indoors and outdoors. This bespoke approach is evident in every detail, from the thoughtfully designed furnishings to the opulent materials and curated artwork that adorn the interiors and exteriors. The result is an inviting space where family and friends can gather, relax, and connect in a setting defined by comfort and serenity.

The Oasis Deck®, a hallmark of Benetti’s B.Now family, serves as the yacht’s pièce de résistance. With an impressive 116 square meters of space at the water’s edge, it offers a 270-degree panoramic view, fold-out wings that extend the deck’s width, and a stunning infinity pool. This unique design ensures guests can experience an intimate connection with the sea while enjoying a perfect balance of sunlight and shade. The deck’s multifunctionality makes it the heart of outdoor life onboard, embodying the very essence of conviviality and relaxation.

The exterior styling of ASANI, designed by UK-based RWD, exudes elegance and dynamism. Flowing lines and a vertical bow create a silhouette that is both sporty and sophisticated. Extensive glazing enhances the yacht’s connection to its surroundings, allowing natural light to flood the interiors while offering uninterrupted views of the horizon.

ASANI’s expansive decks are a marvel of

versatility and hospitality. Each level is outfitted with bespoke furniture crafted by Interdecor Design, as well as outdoor bars that cater to guests throughout the day. The main deck’s stern platform, with its fold-out wings and infinity pool, transforms into an open-air sanctuary where guests can lounge, socialise, or take a dip in the pool. Steps lead up to a raised beach area featuring a bar and comfortable seating, ensuring close proximity to the water for an immersive ocean experience.

Moving to the upper deck, a spacious aft section provides a comfortable sofa and a bespoke dining table sheltered from the elements. A forward sunpad and double sofa offer additional relaxation options, while the sun deck above boasts L-shaped sofas, multifunctional coffee tables, and a panoramic Jacuzzi. These spaces cater to both intimate gatherings and lively entertainment, ensuring every moment onboard is memorable.

The interiors of ASANI reflect a sophisticated neutral palette designed by Benetti’s in-house team, with further refinements by LASS Studio and Bergman Design House. The seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces is a central theme, with natural materials, organic forms, and vibrant blues evoking a connection to the sea.

Art plays a pivotal role in ASANI’s interior design. The owner’s personal collection is complemented by commissioned pieces that celebrate nature and creativity. Highlights include works by Ula Saniawa, Roi James, and Sougwen Chung, as well as bespoke furnishings that double as art pieces. For instance, the Jallu Ebénistes games table and Mattia Bonetti coffee table serve as both functional elements and striking visual statements. This curation of art and design elements creates a space that is both serene and stimulating, offering a feast for the senses.

The main salon is a standout feature, designed to mirror the tranquillity of the Oasis Deck®. Natural oak and dark wenge-effect detailing combine with textural accessories to create an

atmosphere of understated luxury. A bespoke rug, inspired by ocean waves, anchors the space, while an artwork by Elmgreen & Dragset depicting cloud-filled skies provides a calming focal point. The salon also features a custom-designed sofa and a dining area that seats up to 12 guests, making it an ideal space for entertaining.

Forward on the main deck, the full-beam master suite offers a private retreat with a dressing area, a Calacatta marble bathroom, and a terrace complete with an outdoor shower. Here, the Ula Saniawa installation captures the fluidity of nature, serving as both a decorative and inspirational element. Four additional guest cabins on the lower deck echo the design language of the main deck, offering private bathrooms and a cohesive aesthetic throughout.

While ASANI dazzles with its design, it is equally impressive in its performance. With a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, the yacht spans four decks and boasts a beam of 9.2 meters. Practicality is not overlooked, with ample storage for water toys and tenders in the main deck’s garage. A separate crew area with six cabins ensures efficient operations without compromising guest privacy. The intelligent layout and ergonomic design make ASANI as functional as it is luxurious.

Founded in 1873, Benetti is a pioneer in luxury yacht construction, blending tradition with innovation to create vessels that are both timeless and cutting-edge. With ASANI, Benetti reaffirms its position as a leader in the industry, delivering a yacht that is as inspiring as it is functional.

ASANI is more than a yacht; it is a manifestation of hospitality, inspiration, and gratitude. From its groundbreaking Oasis Deck® to its meticulously curated interiors, ASANI offers a unique blend of elegance, comfort, and connection to nature. It is a space where friends and family can come together to create memories that will last a lifetime, all while enjoying the unparalleled luxury and craftsmanship that only Benetti can provide.

“The Custom Line 50’s interiors reflect meticulous attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to luxury. The design concept is rooted in three-dimensionality, combining rich textures and materials to create a tactile, visually dynamic environment.”

The launch of the Custom Line 50 marks a milestone in yacht design and construction, establishing a new benchmark for elegance, functionality, and cutting-edge engineering. At 49.90 metres long and 9.60 metres in the beam, this displacement yacht seamlessly blends style with performance. Built entirely of aluminium, the superyacht introduces a sleek, lightweight design under 500 GT, making it a standout in its class. Unveiled in Ancona in December 2024, the Custom Line 50 combines craftsmanship with innovation to deliver an unparalleled cruising experience.

The project is a result of an ambitious collaboration between the Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard Engineering Department, led by Piero Ferrari, and renowned designers Filippo Salvetti and Studio ACPV ARCHITECTS Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel. This partnership brought together marine engineering expertise and architectural sophistication to produce a masterpiece that reimagines the traditional superyacht.

From concept to completion, the Custom Line 50’s journey was guided by the yard’s project management team, ensuring every detail reflected the owner’s vision. The result is a yacht that exemplifies refinement, sophistication, and a harmonious blend of classical and contemporary design elements.

The exterior styling of the Custom Line 50 is a testament to timeless design principles. The clean, horizontal lines create a sporty yet harmonious silhouette, ensuring the yacht makes a striking impression. This elegant design is complemented by generous outdoor areas covering 324 square metres, offering expansive sea-view terraces for relaxation and socialising.

One of the yacht’s standout features is the owner’s exclusive deck—a unique attribute typically reserved for vessels over 60 metres. This 75-square-metre master suite, located on the upper deck, boasts panoramic floor-toceiling windows and direct access to a private terrace. This innovation not only maximises privacy but also ensures an immersive connection with the surrounding seascape.

The Custom Line 50’s interiors reflect meticulous attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to luxury. The design concept is rooted in three-

dimensionality, combining rich textures and materials to create a tactile, visually dynamic environment. Canaletto walnut cabinetry contrasts with light-filled spaces created by curved, mirrored glazing, which dematerialises boundaries and brings the outdoors in.

The interior palette features warm tones such as natural leather and walnut, balanced by soft neutrals such as ivory, beige, and light grey. Luxurious materials like Calacatta Oro and Crema d’Orcia marble further enhance the yacht’s sophisticated aesthetic. These elements are unified across all four decks, creating a cohesive design language.

The main deck is designed with integration in mind, offering seamless transitions between interior and exterior spaces. At the heart of this level is the two-level beach club, a 30-square-metre haven at the water’s edge. This area features an infinity pool with a glass wall that visually connects the pool and the sea, creating a serene ambience. A ‘drawer’ transformer mechanism converts the beach club into a full-fledged beach area, with safetyfocused features like foldable transom sections.

The adjacent 65-square-metre cockpit extends the outdoor experience, furnished with exclusive lounge seating and a bar that separates the relaxation zone from the aft sun pad area. Sliding glass doors lead to the main salon, a light-filled social hub featuring large sofas, leather armchairs, and Calacatta marble side tables. A 55-inch drop-down TV enhances the space’s entertainment potential. Beyond the salon, the dining area accommodates up to 12 guests around an elegant oval marble table, with expansive glazing ensuring breathtaking sea views.

The upper deck is devoted entirely to the owner’s comfort and privacy. Spanning 75 square metres, the master suite features a centrally positioned bed with a leather headboard and bespoke furnishings, including a full-custom desk and a white daybed. The suite’s ensuite bathroom is a masterpiece in itself, clad in Crema d’Orcia marble with three-dimensional ribbing that enhances light and texture. It opens onto a private terrace, which includes an outdoor lounge and solarium – ideal for soaking in the panoramic views. This deck epitomises tranquillity and exclusivity, reflecting the yacht’s focus on owner-centric design.

The 106-square-metre sun deck offers unmatched versatility for relaxation and entertainment. At its aft, a hydromassage pool with glass panels provides a weightless view of the sea. Surrounding the pool, elegant sunbeds and large sofas create a perfect lounging environment, while an American Bar and barbecue area cater to alfresco dining. This multifunctional space, with dining for 12, is ideal for hosting guests or enjoying quiet moments at sea. A hidden stairway connects the sun deck to the upper deck pantry, ensuring discreet crew movement and maximising guest privacy – a hallmark of the Custom Line 50.

The lower deck is thoughtfully designed to balance guest luxury and crew functionality. Four guest cabins, including two VIP suites and two standard cabins, are characterised by their spaciousness, elegant walnut veneers, and customdesigned leather headboards. Each cabin has a private bathroom featuring Crema d’Orcia marble and brushed walnut floors. The crew area is equally impressive, accommodating nine crew members in five cabins, alongside a pantry and laundry facilities. This efficient layout ensures smooth operations and a comfortable living environment for the crew.

Custom Line 50 is not just a visual marvel; it is a feat of engineering. With a draught of just 2.2 metres, the yacht is perfect for cruising shallow waters such as the Caribbean. The helm station, located on a raised mezzanine level, ensures optimal visibility for precision manoeuvring. Advanced noise-reducing materials, like ivory-coloured Alcantara wallpaper, enhance the acoustic comfort throughout the yacht.

The Custom Line 50 is more than a superyacht; it is a vision of the future. By integrating innovative design, engineering excellence, and uncompromising luxury, it sets a new standard for marine architecture. Every element, from the spatial dematerialisation effects to the personalised owner’s deck, reflects a commitment to pushing boundaries and redefining what is possible.

As the flagship of Custom Line’s fleet, this 50-metre masterpiece is a testament to the brand’s ability to blend tradition with modernity, creating yachts that are as functional as they are beautiful. The Custom Line 50 is a celebration of the sea, inviting its owners and guests to experience life on the water in an entirely new way.
