English language Learning. Course identity update/rebrand
Headway was first published in 1986 and was the first English Language Teaching course to combine educational material with real world content. Headway broke the mould and revolutionised ELT materials giving teachers and students a much more enriched, accessible learning experience.

For the 5th Edition, OUP wanted to continue to represent Headway’s core values and to affect a moderate to high-level of design change.
In reference to the 1986 edition we dropped the triangles and revisited the original chevrons. This time though they were formed around true 90° angles and repeated in the title to create a masthead. To help humanise the cover we introduced a lead character with a definite, directional quality. White was used liberally to let the covers breathe.
On completion we provided a simple, step-by-step user-guide so that subsequent levels and other components could be created in-house.

English language Learning. Course branding, page template design and page production.

Sometimes, I’m asked to produce rough cover ideas and concepts to kickstart a new series and this was the case for Lifestyle. Initially, some of the designs fell flat, some were considered too out-there, but one in particular sparked an idea. The in-house design team at Pearson took the Barcelona chair and used this as the stage for a series of photographs which feature on each of the covers. A really good example of publisher/agency collaboration.

Subsequently I went on to produce two levels of the student's course material.

PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English Academic) is an English language test used to assess UK Visa applications.

Total re-design involving:

• Course-rebranding

• New suite of logos and icons
• Interpretation and presentation of language concepts

• Page production – fast track
Considering the daunting prospect of learning a language, the designs are friendly and unthreatening. A student character is colour coded and flies through the content navigating the user through the different sections. Clear signposting and direct and unfussy graphics aid teaching concepts throughout.
