The first glimpse of the Land Rover story will be as guests pass a recreation of the beaches at Anglesey, where they will witness two men on the beach sketching the outline of the very first Land Rover in the sand... this is how Land Rover came to life.

The journey continues through the estate and arrives at ‘The Barns’... the year is 1948 – the birth year of Land Rover.

Guests stop at a 1940’s fully working farmyard, complete with livestock, farm workers and farming implements of the era... As a living exhibit guests have the unique opportunity to be a part of Mr Wilks’ world as an engineer, inventor and the creator of Land Rover.

There will be the chance to drive the uniquely adapted vehicles which include Land Rover plough and other Land Rover powered vehicle applications, whilst in the distance, a camouflaged and modified L494 will be mimicking the heritage vehicles giving a glimpse of the future.

After a short break in the journey, guests will continue and see the evolution of Land Rover at a recreated factory...

Second Stop: The Generation Change Arriving at ‘a Workers’ Car Park’ in front of the brick clad factory/production line, guests will be visiting a 1940’s factory to see the next phase of the Journey. Passing through turnstiles and ‘clocking-in’ before entering the production line, guests will see the very first production Land Rover ‘Hue’ coming off the line.

As guests continue the tour of the factory, they will see production throughout the generations, reliving the evolution of Series 1, 2 and the introduction of Range Rover.

The story will be told using heritage vehicles, images, videos and visual representations of datelines, nameplate introduction and company ownership along the way.

Once their ‘shift’ in the factory is complete, guests will continue the journey and see how Land Rover’s unique proposition has resulted in some unusual vehicles...

International guests will be collected from their airport by heritage Land Rovers driven directly to the Packington Estate, whilst UK guests will meet at the hotel before being transferred by a 1940’s ‘Midland Red’ heritage bus.

From the minute guests arrive at Packington Hall they will be immersed in ‘The Journey of Land Rover’ – a unique interactive journey reliving important and relevant milestones in Land Rover’s 65 years of invention, capability, strength and iconic design.

A line up of 65 Land Rovers from across the generations will be displayed in front of the impressive Packington Hall, providing a backdrop at the central staging post for the 65th Anniversary celebration.

Land Rover hosts (inc. Roger Crathorne) will greet guests at the main hall entrance. Light refreshments will be served followed by a briefing on the day ahead.

Guests are allocated a variety of Land Rovers (special edition 65th Anniversary Defenders) to drive ‘The Journey of Land Rover’ – a unique route through the grounds that incorporates a variety of terrains including forest tracks, farmland, estate roads. Along the route they will pass various ‘famous areas’ used for original testing such as the Packington Ford and the Meridan Mile, and will visit interactive zones depicting the highlights of the Land Rover story so far.

tyle is everything to Brunello Cucinelli whose cashmere sweaters are worn by Prince William and James Bond star Daniel Craig. The Italian designer, who produces coloured cashmere for both men and women, is a true fashion icon, whose personal preference is rooted in precision fit, mixing sporty with casual.

His sweaters can cost up to £1,800 but Brunello, 58, insists you can’t put a price tag on appearance.

A stickler for tradition, the designer has driven the same white Jaguar for 25 years, even though his factory is minutes down the road from his home in Solomeo, Umbria.

Indeed his factory is practically the entire town of Solomeo, which he prides himself on restoring.

“I am its custodian,” he says. “Without me there is no Solomeo as we know it today.

What is the point of working if you cannot give anything back?” It all started when Brunello Cucinelli was 15, and saw his father cry when he was forced to leave his life as a farmer to work in a cement-making factory. He resolved that whatever he would do with his life, it would be an attempt to make work more humane.

So in 1985, Cucinelli bought a rundown 14th-century castle in Solomeo, which was the hometown of his fiancée. After some restoration, he moved his company into the castle in 1987. The place would be where workers could make the world’s best menswear in the most ideal of conditions.

Sustainability and regeneration is at the heart of Brunello’s business. Everyone is made to feel they contribute to the enterprise. Employees work in beautiful rooms filled with sunlight. They’re surrounded by dark woods, arches, and spools of cashmere. When they need to relax, they can do so in the company’s 230seat theatre, olive orchard garden, outside amphitheatre, or sports complex. No one watches how long the other takes for lunch.

It’s all built on trust. His workers are just as important as profit, he says.

Brunello’s quirky world of cashmere manufacturing is not too far removed from Jaguar’s. Like the F-Type two-seater, his jumpers are classy yet comfortable while appealing to a modern clientele. And while he sees himself as something of a patriarch, investing in the factory town and employing close to 600 people, more than its 400 inhabitants, Jaguar has taken a more holistic approach to its latest sports car.

The F-Type emits 80 per cent less CO2, thanks to the way the body structure is bonded. There is also a stop/start system that brings the engine to a halt when the car stops, which saves fuel.

And more than half the content of the car comes from recycled metal. Jaguar is also rolling out its closed-loop recycling system to its suppliers, ensuring all off cuts of

ith its slick traditional beauty, the new F-Type Jaguar is keen to explore the equally ravishing region of Umbria with a 48 hour stay in its medieval hills.

Courtesy of Jaguar, first stop is heavenly Assisi where monks sing, pilgrims flock and miracles happen. Tucked away in its spiritual hills is the Nun Relais, a five-star retreat that came about from the careful restoration of the ancient monastery of Saint Catherine.

Originally constructed in 1275 for a community of nuns’ wellness, the luxury hotel is housed in a former Benedictine convent in the heart of the old town.

After a two-hour flight to Rome, we are helicoptered in to Assisi as magnificent views of Rocca Maggiore and Minore come in to focus.

Then, sun blazing, hoverflies buzzing, it’s an 8km ride in the soft top F-Type to the seemingly austere stone resort. Inside soft colours create an intimate and relaxing atmosphere. The spa centre exudes the aura of a museum that allows guests to bask in its arcane beauty while indulging in a range of health treatments.

Wellness experts will customise spa treatments, or guests can simply relax and admire the six majestic 1st century AD pillars as they have a hydro-massage in the pool.

Quiet and minimalistic suites with majestic views add to the feeling of well-being while the Nun restaurant is sure to please even the most discerning palate. Exquisite dishes made by the chef tell this part of the history of Umbria; all

metal from the manufacturing process are reused. From the base F-Type, which boasts of 380-horsepower to the 495-horsepower, F-Type is regarded as a unique innovation among it peers.

Taking inspiration from cockpits of fighter airplanes, Jaguar’s F-Type controls are ergonomically grouped by function while further aeronautical inspiration can be found in the joystick-shaped SportShift selector controlling the eight-speed transmission.

Global brand director, Adrian Hallmark, who spoke during the unveiling of the new product at the Paris Motor show said: “Jaguar is a founding member of the sports car segment with a rich sporting bloodline stretching over 75 years, and in the F-Type we’ve reignited that flame.”

He added: “The F-Type isn’t designed to be like anyone else’s sports car. It’s a Jaguar sports car ultra-precise, powerful, sensual and, most of all, it feels alive and it’s environmentally-friendly. It has a long life and sustainable designs.” >

Next stop: The Moravola Tower, a 12th Century retreat poised on a Perugian hilltop.

The watchtower is the jewel in the crown of the region’s boutique hotels but its remote location, in the heart of the Carpini Valley, means wheels are crucial if one is to visit the Umbrian countryside.

Navigating the access road in the F-Type at dusk is wonderfully liberating. Everywhere you look, it’s bucolic and handsome – rolling hills dotted with stone farmhouses, winding rivers and pretty, silvery-leafed olive trees.

Picturesque Montone village is a tenminute drive away and the F-Type is perfect for negotiating the unpredictable twists and turns of the Italian landscape.

Jaguar has pulled out all the stops for this car.

It has a light but very rigid aluminium chassis and the stiffer the chassis, the more accurately the engineers can fine-tune the suspension and steering.

The wheels are attached by double wishbones all round to maximise grip during hard cornering.

Against the perfectly tranquil backdrop, the F-Type sounds fruity. Valves open under load from 3,000rpm which allows the exhaust note to build to a thrilling crescendo against the backdrop of countryside tranquillity.

Once inside the Tower, it really is another world; there are no telephone lines or internet connection and service is informal but professional. While the exterior may be a thousand years old, the interiors are as modern as they come. It may have a little something to do with the owners. Christopher Chong is an architect, a former Norman Foster associate, and his wife, Seonaid Mackenzie, is a designer. Everywhere you look there are innovative and contemporary touches. There are glass balconies and floating metal staircases and the suites, with their stone walls and sunken baths, are remarkably comfortable.

After a day relaxing by the infinity pool and watching fireflies at night, I head to the restaurant.

The food is an experience in itself. Ingredients are garnered from a huge vegetable garden and the meat is organic. Menus are reinterpreted Italian and Umbrian dishes, but the quality is extremely high.

If you¹re lucky, at the end of October and in November, it’s truffle season and people come from all over the World to experience the festivities.

Students studying (combinations of) these subjects may choose to undertake an approved placement relevant to their programme of study with an organisation or institution located in the Uk or abroad.

There are three possible types of placement: > Assistantships provide an opportunity for those interested in working with young people and who may be considering a career in teaching to gain first-hand experience in a school.

Selection is by application form and preliminary interviews with the Placements Manager. Applications are then forwarded via the British council in London to the authorities abroad. The deadline for applications is normally mid-november. > Higher education courses provide an opportunity to study a wide range of subjects either at an exchange university, or occasionally at an approved non-exchange university. If students are combining a language with another subject at Aston, they may choose to study that subject in the foreign language. Such courses also provide first-hand experience of a different education system, and an opportunity to meet and study with students from that country and

elsewhere. This option can provide the opportunity to gain a recognised additional qualification at the place of study.

The School has established ERASMUS partnerships with a number of universities in France, germany, Spain, Turkey and Finland: Angers, Barcelona (Pompeu Fabra), Ankara (Bilkent), Bordeaux (IEP), granada, Frankfurt/Oder (viadrina), Leipzig, Lille (IEP), Mainz (germersheim), Montpellier, new caledonia, Paderborn, Paris, Rennes (IEP), Sevilla (Pablo de Olavide), Tampere, Tours and valencia which means that assistance is given with arrangements for accommodation, course selection and supervision. There may also be a possibility to study at korea University in Seoul.

Selection is by application form and interview. Students are encouraged to attend information meetings during visits by colleagues from partner institutions, and to liaise with students from these universities who come to Aston to study in the School. > Work placements provide an opportunity to gain first-hand experience of employment and to apply relevant aspects of studies at Aston. Interdisciplinary Studies without a language Support for students of Interdisciplinary Studies and English Language, European Studies, International Relations, Politics, Sociology or Public Policy & Management without a language is given by the Interdisciplinary Studies placements office.

Interdisciplinary Studies with a language major Students taking a Language Major (80 credits) with another subject Minor (40 credits) are required to spend a compulsory placement year in the target language culture, as in section 1 above.

Programme Structure Masters and Postgraduate Diploma programmes are based on a mixture of taught modules, selected from a range made available each year for a specific programme, and, for the MA or MSc, an individually supervised dissertation. The design of each programme thus ensures co-ordination of studies while allowing freedom to specialise in particular aspects.

Each successful module, and the dissertation, earns credit towards the degree. The MA or MSc degree is awarded to students who have achieved 180 credits overall, while the Postgraduate Diploma can be awarded to those who have achieved 120 credits overall but have not completed a dissertation.

Each taught module normally earns between 10 and 40 credits.

Scheme Of Work Taught modules are based on a learning block of managed learning hours and private study (the total number of hours depends on the credit weighting). Teaching is by a variety of methods and is specified in each module specification.

Dissertation topics are agreed by the student and supervisor, and are based on individual research interests and experience. Where do I find information?

Repaying the loan

For information on student finance for Higher Education courses, or to register and apply go online to www.direct.gov.uk/uni Another useful website for information is studentfinance-yourfuture.direct.gov.uk/ where you can calculate what you may be entitled to receive.

Students only make loan repayments from the April after they have left University, when they are employed and their salary is £21,000 or more. Their fee is repaid at 9% of salary over £21,000, and is deducted straight from your salary.

What am I entitled to?

All eligible full-time students get a basic level of financial help, but you may be entitled to more if you apply for finance which includes an assessment of your household income (including parents’ and partners’ income)

Universities can now charge up to £9,000 per year for full-time undergraduate degrees. There is no upfront charge for the tuition fee. Most students will be able to take out a Tuition Fee Loan.

Part-time students studying for their first degree or other higher education course can also get a Tuition Fee Loan. Your course needs to be at least 25% of an equivalent full-time course each year (e.g. four years instead of one year full time).

When do I receive the loan?

You will get your student loan or grant after you register on your course at the start of term. The money is paid directly into your bank account except for Tuition Fee Loans which are paid directly to your university or college.

Any student loan not repaid after 30 years is completely written off.

Grants do not need to be repaid and the amount you receive depends on your household income. Grants are available to students whose yearly household income is £42,600 or less.

Part-time students can’t apply for a loan or grant to cover living costs.

“Terrie has gone above and beyond for the students especially in her Mathematics Mechanics. She initially took on the group for only a forty-five minute slot because she was over hours and they did not have a maths teacher. She realised how in need they were of quality teaching and increased the tutoring to the full lesson. She has managed to get them all through one exam and has since entered several into the higher tiered paper. Not only does she make maths interesting, but she has managed to convert the attitudes of a class who previously had decided that they couldn’t progress.”

“Craig has been the general support in my Performing Arts session within Supporting Learning (ACE Course) for 3 years. I have watched Craig develop his confidence and this year his contribution has exceeded expectation. The group were recreating a piece from The Producers which involved a script, singing and movement. Craig, in his own time, typed up a copy of the script to help the students. He did this by watching the extract and recording the script which must have taken many hours.

I have felt this year Craig has been a very strong group support.”

Budget implications of new team model The remit for the team includes marketing and communications activity for the College across all sites and all audiences, including support for a number of new brands emerging from commercial partnerships and the capital building programme.

This activity is concerned with the promotion and protection of the College’s reputation and is responsible for encouraging enquiries and applications to college programmes through a range of channels. Specific responsibilities include advertising, PR and media relations, web and digital communications, design and print, events management, distribution, brand management and internal communications As part of the contract, staff employed by Sterling (Marketing Account Manager and Marketing Account Executive) are based full time on

the College’s main site in Northampton and commenced operations on 1 August, 2011.

The Marketing Account Manager had considerable experience of the HE and FE markets and has previously worked in colleges. The Marketing Account Executive was recruited for the specific role and had experience within the marketing team of a multi-national paper supplier. At the start of the year, 2011/12 the new Director of Marketing joined the Senior Management Team.

Specialist services such as print, fulfilment and asset management are supplied via Sterling’s head office (based around 15 miles from the College) and their services are called upon as required. Design development and artworking resides with Glued’s team of designers in Warwickshire, and web development is the remit of Smartways in Northampton.

The outsourcing exercise was devised to deliver an excellent service using fewer resources more efficiently. The high level impact on the College budget is shown below, highlighting in particular the significant benefit to the staffing line.

In the November 2011, the Engineering team made a proposal based on a recent visit they had made to the Bloodhound Supersonic Car project in Bristol.

The project is leading the latest attempt to break the world land speed record. Bloodhound, designed and built in Britain, is powered by a Rolls Royce Eurofighter jet engine and hybrid rocket developed by local high technology company, Cosworth. The car is designed to travel at speeds of up to 1,000 mph. The organisation behind Bloodhound runs an education programme, designed to inspire young people to study STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and consider careers in engineering, science and technology.

negotiations with Northamptonshire Enterprise Partnership and Northamptonshire County Council that resulted in a sponsorship deal to enable to College to host the County’s launch event that would mark the start of a wide-ranging schools’ programme spanning a twelve month period.

Early discussions with the project’s Ambassador Programme Director revealed that Northamptonshire County Council and the local Enterprise Partnership were also interested in working with the Bloodhound project, particularly as one its key partners, the high technology performance engineering company, Cosworth, is based in the County. The Director of Marketing, along with the Deputy Principal and Curriculum Manger for Engineering entered into

College students, school pupils, members of the public, businesses and special guests were given the opportunity to see the car, find out about how it works and enjoy a virtual high-speed driving experience in a series of interactive events and activities over the three days. The College benefited from the opportunity to showcase its engineering provision alongside several industry partners including Cosworth.

The programme involved bringing a life-size replica of the Bloodhound car along with its V8 engine to Northampton College’s brand new engineering studios in Northampton from 21-23 February 2012.

Students were able to try out a simulated highspeed driving experience and have fun with balloon car and gravity racing.
