Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, This year, Father’s Day is celebrated on June 17. There will be a special collection taken at Masses on June 16-17 to care for our infirmed and senior priests. The Fund for Diocesan Infirmed and Elderly Priests is a special way for the people of the Diocese of Joliet to express their concern for the welfare of those who have dedicated their lives in service to our pastoral care. The money in this fund goes toward priests who need help with extraordinary medical expenses or suffer a catastrophic illness. It also provides for the care of the St. John Vianney Villa, home to several senior priests in the Diocese of Joliet. Prayerfully consider making a donation to help our aged and sick priests as an expression of appreciation for all they have done in exemplifying Christ’s mercy, through their spiritual guidance and celebration of the sacraments. On behalf of all the active and senior priests of the diocese, I am grateful for your prayers and for your generous support of the Father’s Day Collection for our aged and infirm diocesan priests. Please be assured of my prayers for you.

Holy Matrimony Policy of Saints Peter and Paul Parish Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church rejoices with you as you prepare to celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. Because of the large number of weddings at Saints Peter & Paul and, in order to accommodate our parishioners, there are some guidelines which must be followed as you prepare for your wedding. The

parish will set a date when contacted by only the bride or groom themselves. We are not able to set a wedding date with parents, grandparents, relatives or friends unless the bride and groom are both serving in the military service abroad. All arrangements are also made only with the bride and groom.

Either

the bride or groom themselves, or either set of parents, must be registered parishioners for a minimum of three months before the parish will check the calendar for a wedding date. The parish will also permit any individual who has been confirmed in the parish or graduated from our parish school or graduated from North Central College to be married at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church following all other requirements and given the permission of their proper pastor.

The

Diocese of Joliet requires a minimum preparation period of 6 months. This means that your wedding date cannot be sooner than six months from the time that the parish confirms your date with you. (If you phone the parish and your date is set on February 1st, the earliest that you can get married is August 1st.) To clarify, if you are newly registered here, there will be a 9 month period before your wedding can take place.

Stipends

for weddings are as follows:   

Registered active parishioners of one year or longer – $700.00 Inactive parishioners (non-contributing at the time the wedding is booked) – $1,000.00 New parishioners (registered less than one year at the time the wedding is booked) – $1,000.00

Note: Fees for parish stipend, parish organist and cantors are included in the above offering amounts; however fees for brass and violins are not included in this fee. For those couples who are not registered parishioners but whose parents are, the above guidelines apply to the relevant registered parishioners. The stipend check should be made out Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church, listing the wedding date and time on the memo line. Please insure that your check is submitted to the parish office no later than one month after booking your wedding. (Wedding stipends will be refunded for any cancellation if the parish is notified no later than one month prior to your originally scheduled wedding date.) Couples

must be engaged prior to setting a wedding date. A date will not be scheduled if Holy Matrimony is only a possibility.

Participation

in a Pre-Cana workshop and two dates of “God’s Plan for a Joy-Filled Marriage” is required for those preparing for Holy Matrimony at Saints Peter & Paul. Classes are offered quarterly at Saints Peter & Paul. Please check the parish website for a list of upcoming sessions: http:// www.sspeterandpaul.net/sacraments/wedding-planning). There is no fee for your participation at our Parish if you are being married here; however if your Holy Matrimony is at another Parish, the fee for these class is $125.00.

Participation

in one instructional class on Natural Family Planning is required for those preparing for Holy Matrimony at Saints Peter & Paul. Classes are offered online for a fee of $49. Please login at https://catholicmarriageprepclass.digitalchalk.com/dc/guest/login. Make sure to obtain a certificate verifying your participation and submit to the parish office so that it may be included in your marriage file.

Please

be aware, that when a Catholic is marrying a non-Catholic, your Sacrament of Holy Matrimony will be celebrated with a ceremony that does not include the reception of Holy Communion. In these cases, one of our deacons may be assigned to prepare you for and to celebrate your Sacrament of Holy Matrimony.

The

Sacrament of Holy Matrimony may not be scheduled if either party has been previously married without first speaking to one of the priests. The secretary will ask this question when taking the initial information.

The

Sacrament of Holy Matrimony is scheduled here on Fridays at 4:00 PM and on Saturdays at noon and 2:30 PM. Rehearsals for Friday Holy Matrimony are at 6:00 PM on the Thursday before; rehearsals for Saturday noon Holy Matrimony are at 6:00 PM on the Friday before; and rehearsals for Saturday 2:30 PM Holy Matrimony are at 7:00 PM on the Friday before. Holy Matrimony and rehearsal times are not negotiable. Due to the large number of Masses (11 Masses) on Sundays, the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony is not celebrated on Sundays.

To

schedule a wedding date, call the Parish office during regular office hours, 630-355-1081 or stop by the Parish Office during regular office hours.

Meet and Support our Seminarians Come alone or with family & friends - be inspired.

Diocese of Joliet 43rd Annual Seminarian Sendoff Jesus and the Jewish Roots of the Eucharist by Dr. Brant Pitre

“Celebrating the Future of Priesthood” Sunday, August 5, 2018 from 1:30-4:30pm Krasa Center, Benedictine University in Lisle Adults: $30 / Children 5-12: $15 / Children under 5: Free Call or email John Matyasik at: 630-947-5672 or jmatyasik@serraclubdc.com

Dr. Brant Pitre uses the Hebrew Scriptures and Jewish tradition to frame the actions of Jesus at the Last Supper, and to provide a fresh look at the heart of Catholic practice — the Eucharist. By taking us back to the Jewish roots of our faith, Dr. Pitre gives us a powerful lens through which to see anew the bread of the presence, the manna, the Last Supper, and ultimately the meaning of the Eucharist.

Please respond by July 21, 2017. Visit SERRADUPAGE.org for more information.

Saint Vincent de Paul A specific spirituality underpins our Vincentian vocation: Vincentian spirituality, so named for our patron St. Vincent de Paul. For Vincentians , the key aspect of St. Vincent’s spirituality are:  To love God, our Father, with the sweat of our brow and the strength of our arms;  To see Christ in the poor and the poor in Christ;  To share the compassionate and liberating love of Christ the Evangeliser and Servant of the Poor;  To heed the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. This spirituality gives life, color, and meaning to who we are and what we do. Vincentian spirituality is the foundation of our vocation, endowing it with credibility, veracity, and integrity. God’s grace strengthens, supports, and energizes the practice of this specific spirituality. Inspired by Gospel values, the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to those who are needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam, and its patron, Saint Vincent de Paul. Mark’s Gospel Corner Today’s Gospel is taken from Mark 14:12-16, 22-26, where the Last Supper and the institution of the Eucharist are recounted. It is the eve of the Jewish Feast of Passover, recounting when the Israelites passed through the waters of the Red Sea, escaping from those who would bind them up and take them back into slavery. Eventually this feast became a pilgrimage feast when all who could would go up to the Temple in Jerusalem, the place where God dwelled. Here the lamb would be slain to symbolically redeem the Israelites from slavery and death. Now Jesus goes to Jerusalem with full knowledge that He will suffer and die for the sins of His people. Jesus tells the disciples to go ahead where they will meet a man carrying a water jar who will show them where to prepare the Passover meal. Just days before, Jesus instructed the disciples to go ahead of Him into the city where they would find a donkey tied up which He would ride triumphantly into Jerusalem. Mark wants to emphasize that what will befall Jesus does not happen to Him unawares, but because the Father has willed it. Mark frames the Last Supper with stories of denial. First, Judas will go to the Jewish leaders to betray Jesus for a bag of silver, and second, Judas will identify Jesus to the soldiers with a kiss, and a short time later, Peter will deny, three times, that he even knows Jesus. It is precisely in the midst of mankind’s denial that Jesus gives Himself to us completely in the Eucharist. God’s love for us is not thwarted by our failures. Instead, Jesus gives Himself to us Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity as food for the journey – spiritual food to sustain us on our pilgrimage to heaven – food that nourishes and strengthens us in our vocation to love. The fruitfulness of the Eucharist is contingent, however, upon our preparation and receptivity to receive Him. Receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation monthly is a tremendous aid. Fighting distractions at Mass and following the readings and prayers are indispensable, for we go to Mass to worship God – to give of ourselves – not to focus on “getting something out of Mass.” Folding our hands as we go up to receive Communion and bowing just before reaching the Eucharistic minister can make a big difference in preparing to receive Him. Scott Hahn reminds us that we should approach the altar to receive Our Lord and Savior with far greater anticipation and excitement than if the Eucharistic minister were handing each of us ten million dollars in cash! Receiving God Himself is supremely greater than ten million dollars! Following the reception of Jesus in Communion, spend time thanking Him for coming to you in the Eucharist. Tell Him you love Him. Ask Him to help you in your daily battle to love as He loves. Pray for those in need. Pray for your enemies and for the people who drive you crazy. Relish these few minutes with Jesus who is dwelling within you physically for 15-20 minutes. Speak to Him as you would a friend or spouse. Take advantage of this privileged audience with Almighty God. He longs to be in communion with you even more than you desire to be in communion with Him. He will not leave you orphaned; He will be with you until the end of the age.
