‘Armageddon’: CA on Fire State fire officials estimated that 17 separate wildfires Sweep Across Northern California; 15 Are Dead. By Desert Star Staff A score of wind-fueled wildfires broke out overnight in California’s Sonoma and Napa counties, burning tens of thousands of acres, destroying 1,500 structures and causing residents to flee their homes and businesses. Governor Jerry Brown
declared a state of emergency for Sonoma, Napa and Uva counties on Monday. The declaration authorizes the mobilization of the California National Guard to the wine country, north of San Francisco. There are no reports of injuries or deaths, so far. Taking all the fires into account,
more than 1,000 people have been evacuated, according to the Los Angeles Times. One fast-moving fire jumped the 101 Freeway, forcing a hospital in Santa Rosa to be evacuated and burning homes and businesses, witnesses said. All public schools in Santa
Rosa and Calistoga have been closed Monday. Residents described terrifying middle of the night scrambles to flee from raging wildfires. “People were running red lights, there is chaos ensuing,” Santa Rosa resident Ron Dodds told KTVU. “It’s a scary
time. It looks like Armageddon.” There was “zero containment” on two of the biggest fires, Cal Fire said in a mid-morning briefing on Monday. The Tubbs fire, which had spread from Calistoga to Santa Rosa in Sonoma County, has engulfed more than 25,000 Continues on Page 12
The 2017 Artists Council Exhibition Story and Photos by Pat Krause The Palm Springs Art Museum Artists Council held a Private viewing for the 2017 Artists Council Exhibition on Saturday October 7th. The Gallery showed the attending local artists and their art works with a champagne and lite bites in the Elrod Sculpture Garden. Guests were able to view all the works of art from paintings, sculptures and photographs. These items were for sale and half of the proceeds went to the Art Museum and the other half to the Artists Council. There were 43 art submissions for this exhibition and there were 5 awards given.
There was an awards ceremony in the Annenberg Theatre shortly after the reception. Several hundredpeople attended and were given a special flower for their lapel or dress with their pass. The Artists council set up a step and repeat canvas so guests could get their photos taken as they entered. This event is a showcase for local artists, some who have their own galleries in the Valley. A lot of the artists were on hand if they were able to show their works of art.
