By Desert Star Staff Rancho Mirage, - On November 14, 2016, Rancho Mirage City Council Member Richard W. Kite received the Outstanding Public Service Award from the League of California Cities, Riverside County Division. The Outstanding Public Service Award is designed to recognize individuals who go above and beyond the call of duty to represent, protect, and better their community. Council member Kite’s dedication to public service through his outstanding service to municipal government, leadership and activism with the League of California Cities, and his high personal character are the attributes that garnered him this prestigious award.

Councilman Kite was elected to Rancho Mirage City Council in 2000 and re-elected in 2004, 2008, and 2012. He served as Mayor in 2001, 2006, 2010, and 2013. In 2015, he was re-elected for another 4-year term on the City Council. Councilman Kite joined the Executive Board of the League of California Cities in 2007 and was elected Chairman of the Riverside County Division in 2010. In 2015, he was elected to serve as President of League of California Cities, Mayors and Council Members Department Executive Committee. He currently serves as the immediate Past President. He has attended all League of California Cities Division Executive Board meetings, all General Membership meetings

for the Division and attended all annual meetings in San Diego, Sacramento and San Francisco. “My goal has always been to strengthen the position of the League in dealing with those issues discussed by Sacramento that impact our city’s future. It is important that cities are provided information about the League and understand the importance of having a strong voice. This process gives cities more power and improves the results of proposed legislation.” says Kite. Kite’s leadership roles in both the City and the League, along with his ability to work with others in establishing goals and developing solutions for the long-term improvement of the Coachella Valley, makes him a well-deserved recipient of this award.

O’Brien’s brand new discovery, KERSTIN ANDERSON as Maria Rainer. A current student at Pace University, Ms. Anderson won the coveted role from hundreds who auditioned. This is her first national tour. Director O’Brien had this to say about his leading lady, “in looking over a great
