on Friday, July 4 at Palm Springs Stadium. To keep cool, the day will start off with special holiday swim hours at the Palm Springs Pavilion, 401 S. Pavilion Way. The pool will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. followed by a free concert in Sunrise Park starting at 5:30 p.m., featuring the Boys and Girls Club and the Heatwave Jazz and

Show Band. Then watch the Power take on the San Diego Force at 6:00 p.m. followed by patriotic fireworks at 9:15 p.m. FREE admission for the firework’s show begins at 8 p.m., and everyone is invited to bring blankets and lawn chairs and sit on the field at Palm Springs Stadium. “When it comes to

By Desert Star Staff On Saturday, June 28, 2014 around 3:45 a.m., Indio Police Detectives served a search warrant at a residence on the 100 block of Elder Ave., in the City of Imperial Beach (San Diego County) and arrested Joseph Robert Gentile (59 years old of Indio) for the homicide of Guillermo “William” Saavedra (72 years old of Indio). Earlier the previous day, IPD detectives served search warrants in both the City of

Indio and the unincorporated area of Desert Hot Springs attempting to locate Gentile. In the late evening hours of 6/27/14 detectives developed information which led them to a home in Imperial Beach. Gentile was apprehended without incident and no other arrests were made. There are no outstanding suspects. Gentile will be booked into the Riverside County Jail on homicide charges today. The Indio Police Department is proud of the tireless work

done by detectives to solve this homicide.
