Fashion Week at El Paseo Michael Costello designs Story and Photos by Pat Krause The 10th annual Fashion Week El Paseo continues to grow and grow. The event is held under a couple of huge white tents on Larkspur Lane off of El Paseo in the heart of the Valley’s most famous shopping district. Over 40 shops on El Paseo held in store events all week. The Shops offer a preview of new collections,
trunk shows, designer shows, food and wine samplings, hair and makeup techniques, food and refreshments by many of the shops and there is even a day to adopt a pet. There are discounts on purchases and styling events to make every woman feel more beautiful. Some shops had only a one-day event while most held daily events the whole week.
The event runs from March 21st to March 28th with even a few specials after parties. On Sat. March 21st, they held the 10th anniversary reception and show with designers from past years featuring their new collections on the runway. Sunday was the Canine Fashion show, and Monday was the El Paseo Runway Fashion
Story and Photos by Pat Krause The Aqua Caliente Casino Resort Spa sponsored the Food & Wine Festival during Fashion Week on March 27th thru the 29th. The event started with a 4-course luncheon on Friday the 27th. The Friends of James Beard luncheon showcased female celebrity chefs that gave demonstrations of the courses of food served to the guests. This is the fifth year this event has been held in the big white tent on Larkspur in Palm Desert. Coproducers for the festival were Dominic Peterson and Tony Marchese with the theme, A
Salute to Women. Female Chefs, Cat Cora, Brooke Williamson, Lulu Powers and Gale Gand treated the guests to some of the fabulous dishes they are known for. Four different wines were served with each course provided by Wine Australia that are to enrich the pallets of the guests. Cat Cora from the Food Network, Award winning Pastry chef, Gale Gand with Restaurant owner Brooke Williamson and Author and caterer LuLu Powers each described the portion of the meal that was served. The guests enjoyed the music of the Michael Holmes Trio while they
ate. Catering was provided by chef Scott Robertson of New Leaf Catering. Saturday and Sunday of the event will be two days of grand tasting of foods and Wines. Wineries, local restaurants and chef demonstrations will be enjoyed by more than 3000 people. There is a market place for purchase of the wines tasted. 25 chefs will give demonstrations and wineries will explain wine blending with the foods served. Show that featured the newest fashions from 15 stores on El Paseo. Tuesday was the meet and greet of 5 of TV’s Project Runway designers hosted by Michael Costello and Susan Stein. The designers showed their collections on Tuesday night with Costello bringing in a few of his new fashions. Wednesday, Costello held his own Spring and
Summer collection with a trunk show earlier in the day with his fellow designers. Costello had his fashions worn by Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and an A-list of Celebrities. Events always have a reception prior to the fashion show on the long runway with guests seated on both sides Continues on Page 9
