The aim of this exercise was to take an initial look at the model of the building we would be working on over the course of the year. To do this, we selected part of the building in the form of a 10m cube, with a reference given to us: Assemble Studio. In order to better situate the fragement, a wider axonometry of the space was made. The exercise was inspired by the photographer Philippe De Gobert, who photographs spaces through models designed with the idea of having a point of view selected by the author. It was the same here, the model was designed to obtain a point of view of this space that has been rehabilitated in the manner of the office, Assemble studio.

The Blankenberge town hall, set in a large green island, is accompanied by three buildings: the youth centre, the CPAS building and the Soete building. As a result of the programme and the different typologies of the buildings, two distinct but complementary centres have been created. The town hall and the CPAS became the administrative centre, while the neighbourhood, youth and Soete centre and the village hall became the community centre.
For the administrative centre, we added an extension in the continuity of the community centre, with the façade unwinding via a break, allowing us to go from the 2 storeys of the town hall to 3 storeys for the CPAS. This extension also allows us to create a new façade, which responds to the domestic context and a green space by revitalising it, and privatises the space between the police station and the community centre.

As for the community centre, the buildings are floating, so the creation of an external gallery will allow them to be anchored back to the site, while the extensions will allow the space to be enlarged to accommodate the new activities of the community centre. In order to connect these two centres, we are creating a pedestrian forecourt, which highlights the monumental entrance to the community centre, which in the context of this project becomes functional once again.

At the Mano studio, all the graphic documents are produced by hand, which makes it all very interesting because it gives you a completely different perspective. The urban planning project focused on the town of Colloredo di monte albano, an Italian village. The issues in this village are public spaces, there are no places to gather.
The aim of the first semester was to identify the problems and then to propose possible projects. One of the most symbolic places in the village is the castle, which stands on the highest ridge in the village. In the past, this castle was seen as a place of oppression. The village was also hit by an earthquake that destroyed a large part of it. The villagers have a very special history with this place, and are very attached to it. So change isn’t always seen in a positive light, so one of the objectives was to create a project that respected the place while responding to the challenges it faced. The project for the château in the first half of the year is essentially a re-programming to include nursery and primary schools, workshops and a museum.
The plan for the castle in the first half of the year is essentially to reprogramme it to include nursery and primary schools, workshops and a museum. All this with the aim of opening it up to the villagers. The civic centre and town hall are very close to the main street that runs through the whole village.
The civic centre and the town hall are very closed off from the main street that runs through the whole village, which is why the first intervention here was to open up the façade to the street and then to see the street dilated to create a more private square. Steps are placed between the main street and this square to play with the difference in level and add a new quality to this space.

The study of precarious lifestyles in the North of Brussels, with a focus on Maximilien Park, was decisive in the choice of programme: a refuge. Studying the park helps us to understand the limits of our space and what we consider to be home.
Here we can see how this notion of private/public takes place in the street. We noticed that they very often demarcate these areas with objects. This study made us realise that many people suffering from mental illness end up on the streets because their lifestyle has deteriorated. So we decided to do a project on rehabilitation centres, but for whom? This was an important question, because right from the start we were aware of the women who find themselves in very complex situations once on the streets. That’s how the idea of a rehabilitation centre for these women came about.
It’s in the Stephenson district, in a street that’s undergoing a complete overhaul, with a number of social housing units being built around it. It has a facade facing a sociable street and an opposite facade facing a more isolated space with the tracks. This was important for the programme because we were looking for a location that was far enough away from the main activities of the town without being completely out of the way. We discovered that in this type of centre, where psychological care is provided, long corridors were strongly discouraged as they led to traffic stagnation. To avoid this, we thought of gardens that could play a role in healing and stability.
This idea was reinforced when we visited the building and saw the vegetation taking over, so we wondered why not let the building become a greenhouse. We decided to take advantage of the underground floor in the hangar. Demolishing the intermediate slab allowed us to retain the effect of grandeur. The underground slab was removed to reconnect the project with the ground and plant new vegetation.

Daegu is one of South Korea’s three major cities. Due to the rapid development of South Korea and the gentrification of Seoul, the city has an ageing population. We carried out an urban planning analysis, with a general understanding of the city.
The city of Daegu hosts various activities that vary with the seasons, such as hiking and festivals. But due to its position in the hollow of the mountains, the heat accumulates in the city and has difficulty escaping. Secondly, the city experiences times when the amount of water varies enormously, and when the weather is capricious with numerous typhoons.
Daegu is also one of the places where the Korean War wreaked havoc. The project is therefore a memorial hosting various activities such as baths inspired by Korean culture. The aim is to reach out to different generations with activities that speak to them. The project is set up along one of the city’s canals, taking advantage of the city’s water levels.
One of the two buildings contains the museum and the other the baths. The two buildings are linked by two bridges, one private and one public, linking the two banks. These two buildings are in direct contact with the water of the canal and take advantage of this to create spaces for contemplation in winter and bathing in summer, when the water level rises and fills the bathing pools. Some of the pools are accessible all year round.
