We have a talented team of teachers and support staff who are committed to the long-term development of our students. We put students at the centre of all that we do and we believe that our Sixth Form will give you the best chance to achieve your potential and enrich your future. Our students are positive and enthusiastic members of an outstanding Sixth Form who achieve high standards year on year. Students’ involvement in our wider and school community is significant and I feel very proud of the contributions our students make as good citizens.

COURSES ON OFFER At Derby Moor Sixth Form we look for students with ambition and drive who will make the most of the opportunities that we can provide.

We understand how important the choices you make for post16 are in determining your future career prospects. We will work with you to make sure that we provide the opportunities, experiences and guidance to ensure your progression to university or higher apprenticeship.

Our A Level and BTEC courses have been planned to enable you to study a course that will build on your current achievements and that will also enable you to progress in the future. We offer a wide range of A Level courses as well as BTEC Level 3 diplomas in several subjects which are equivalent to one, two or three A Levels depending on your chosen course.

We expect students to achieve a minimum of 5 A*- C at GCSE including English and Maths. Alongside these general entry criteria, each subject has specific criteria. Information about each subject is available via the website and at the Open Evening.

ENRICHMENT AND TUTOR PERIOD If students are to be successful in their transition to Higher Education and employment they need to be equipped with a range of skills that go beyond academic study.

The Sixth Form’s Enrichment Programme will provide students with opportunities to develop skills such as creativity, initiative, enterprise and leadership through a range of activities.

Students work alongside younger students in a range of mentoring roles, they take part in CSLA and Duke of Edinburgh schemes, and they have the opportunity to be creative or learn new skills. During their time in the Sixth Form, all students will undertake relevant Work Experience to enhance university and employment applications.

To support your personal development throughout the Sixth Form we provide a tutorial programme which includes study skills, life skills, citizenship, exam preparation and, crucially, your post-18 plans and decision making.

We offer a structured programme of advice and guidance to ensure a smooth transition from post-16 study to Higher Education or employment. To ensure that you receive individual guidance and support throughout your time with us, you will have an experienced post-16 personal tutor who will remain with you for the two years of your study, deliver your tutor programme, review your progress with you regularly, provide support with any problems that you may encounter and guide you through university and employment applications.

The new school is transformational, with a welcoming entrance plaza, state of the art technology and a diverse range of teaching accommodation providing a range of areas for teaching, socialising and, of course, sports.

The sixth form is in the central learning area and has its own dedicated working and social areas. These facilities are accessible to students throughout the day and also outside of the school day to enhance and support your learning. To emphasise your standing within the school and the wider community we will expect you to wear smart business wear for school: a matching suit jacket and trousers, shirt and tie for boys and a matching suit jacket and trousers or skirt with smart blouse for girls.

BEYOND POST 16 STUDIES The majority of Derby Moor Sixth Form students will progress to university and we aim to make that transition as smooth as possible. For this reason we have developed close partnerships with local universities including Nottingham and Derby.

Through these partnerships we have developed a series of taster sessions, presentations, interview workshops and guidance lectures. We also pride ourselves on having a very experienced sixth form tutor team who will support you throughout your application to UCAS. We understand that not all students intend to apply to university and so we have a dedicated tutor who will offer personalised guidance to students wishing to progress into apprenticeships, employment and gap years.

DMCSC WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP Post-16 Bursary

You may be eligible for a Post-16 Bursary which is funded by the government to support students with the costs involved in Sixth Form study, for example the cost of transport, books or field trips.

If you are currently eligible for Free school Meals you will probably qualify for the bursary. If you join us in Year 12 we will explain the Post-16 Bursary in detail and help you to apply. The money is paid to you not your family but you are assessed on your family’s income.

Trust Partnership

Here at Derby Moor Community Sports College we have linked with several organisations in the city – Derby County Football Club, NHS Derby City, Derby City Sport and Leisure, Ivy House School and the University of Derby – in a Trust Partnership.

The Trust helps us to support your development as a student because, through a community focus, the Trust is developing opportunities for students to be involved with the local and wider communities. Our Trust partners have also provided many opportunities for Work Experience and volunteering that are unique to our students.
