LEARNING PROGRAMME

To mark the Poppies tour and the Centenary of the First World War, some of Derby’s leading cultural organisations are offering an exciting schools learning programme to engage and inspire your students in the local and national stories of the First World War. DERBY THEATRE - CREATIVE LITERACY WORKSHOPS Animals in the First World War (KS2) A practical workshop exploring the roles of animals, using extracts from Michael Morpurgo’s War Horse to look at the First World War from the perspective of the horses in conflict. Tommy’s Tales - Life in the Trenches (KS3+) Exploring the life of a WW1 soldier, through active approaches to unlock and help students to connect with the language and poetry of the First World War. Monday 12 – Tuesday 20 June Monday 10 – Wednesday 12 July (selected dates & times) 2 hour workshop £4 per student (max. 30 students per workshop)

DÉDA - DANCE WORKSHOPS: REFLECTIONS AND REMEMBRANCE Reflections through creative movement (KS1-2) A practical workshop exploring feelings and emotions inspired by the First World War commemorations. Reflections through dance (KS3-4) A practical workshop exploring themes and issues which have been inspired by Derby’s festival of remembrance. Thursday 15 – Friday 30 June (selected dates & times) 2 hour workshop £4 per student (max. 30 students per workshop)
