Autumn 2024, Issue 2

Hello! and welcome to the Autumn issue of the Keynsham Arts newsletter. Our arts community is one of the things that makes Keynsham great and this newsletter aims to share some of the things that are going on.

Colourful community space brings activity and fun to Riverside Square

A formerly drab community space has been given a new lease on life thanks to B&NES Heritage Action Zone(HAZ) Team - Riverside Square is now a colourful active zone, perfect for young residents (and those young at heart). Located outside the Keynsham Leisure Centre, the activity trail draws on Keynsham landmarks and encourages people to to hop, skip, twirl and dance their way through the Square.

Also new to the Riverside Square area is a lighting display in the tunnel that leads from Riverside Square to Temple Street. The images projected onto the side of the walls brighten up the space whilst also showcasing some of Keynsham’s rich history in a captivating timeline of imagery.

If you haven’t yet seen the activity trail or timeline, we encourage all residents to go and have a look (or a play) in Riverside Square.

Nestled in the heart of Keynsham in the Town Council’s Youth Service TimeOut building is a professional music and recording studio. Fully kitted out with sound treated spaces and top of the range equipment, the studio is now available to hire out privately.

Black Sheep Harmony and Magnificent AKs to Set to Perform

Join us for Wild & Woolly 2! Friday 8th November 7:30pm Somerdale Pavilion

Black Sheep Harmony, a well established and award winning local a cappella female voice chorus, are hosting a concert at Somerdale Pavilion on Friday 8th November. We sing, under the direction of our MD Pete “Nooj” Nugent, a variety of music in four part unaccompanied harmony, from classics to modern pop music, appealing to all ages.

Alongside Black Sheep we welcome the Magnificent AKs, a men’s singing group, who profess to lowering the tone and raising a laugh simultaneously! It is our second concert with the Magnificent AKs, having performed with them in a very successful concert “Wild & Woolly” (version 1) at The Space in 2017.

Also joining us on stage are the international gold medal quartet, Mixed Blessings, which includes our chair Noey McElwee, who became the National seniors quartet champions at the British Barbershop Association 50th Anniversary convention this year. We are also pleased to welcome the fabulous SongSmiths and our newest in-house quartet Fine-apples.

One of Black Sheep’s latest ventures was singing in Temple Court as part of this year’s Music Festival. If you didn’t catch us there or at the bandstand earlier this year, join us for a fun filled entertaining evening with both choruses and a selection of quartets. The evening will include a raffle and refreshments available from a licensed bar.

Tickets, £10 (£8 concessions), can be purchased through our website blacksheepharmony.com
