Adirondack Icons to show at BluSeed By Katherine Clark keith@denpubs.com SARANAC LAKE — Maurice Kenny’s poetry has been heard around the world and Tim Fortune’s watercolors and oil paintings are well known, but in a show merging two well known Adirondack artists’ work a new side of both their talents will be displayed. Kenny and Fortune, will merge their art for a show “Icons” - Lunacy & Scribblings at the BluSeed Studios, 24

Cedar Street. The show will feature photographs and one painting by Fortune and Kenny will be exhibiting a group of intuitive “scribbles” based off his poetry. There will be a special Meet the Artists Opening Reception from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 5. Adirondack painter Fortune whose oil and water color paintings are on display at Small Fortune Studios on Main Street, will reveal a different side of his artistic ventures with an exhibit of his photography. The series to be

displayed are titled “Lunacy,” a series of pieces taken of the moon and grid collages of manipulated images of the moon. “I think they shouldn’t come with any expectations,” said Carol Voffler, Artistic Director at BluSeed Studios. “They are going to be refreshed knowing artists can have new breakthroughs. Should be some nice surprises in the works.” Fortune’s work includes large-detailed oil paintings of trees, water scenes and other Adirondack scenes. The photography he will be showing

will be part of a lunar series of moon reflections taken over 10 years ago. Kenny, a native Adirondack poet will exhibit his whimsical illustrations that are inspired by his poetry. “People expect whimsical art to illustrate a poem, but it is the poem the illustrates the whimsical art,” Kenny said. “People will say I’m a writer and he’s a painter of images but I am a painter with words, the scribblings will mirror that.” CONTINUED ON PAGE 3

P L AT T S B U R G H — T h e Plattsburgh Youth Hockey Roadrunners will be heading to Troy, Michigan, to compete in the USA Hockey National Championship Tournament this weekend. The Tier II Boys Midget Team earned its place in the championship after finishing second place in the USA Hockey NY District State Championships recently held in Buffalo. “Our boys have accomplished something extraordinary which has never been done previously by a local boys youth hockey team,” said Coach Steve Gagnier in an email. The state championship featured eight of the top teams from across New York. The Roadrunners tied the top-ranked Nassau County Lions, 2-2, in the first game, scoring their final goal on a penalty shot with only 0.4 seconds on the clock. They suffered a 3-2 loss in the second game against Buffalo’s Clarence Mustangs, but went on to secure a 7-1 victory over the Long Island Rebels, which qualified them for a semifinal match against the Long Island Edge, with the Roadrunners scoring a 4-0 win. Advancing to the finals, the Roadrunners were narrowly defeated 5-4 by Buffalo’s Cheektowaga Warriors in double overtime.

TUPPER LAKE — Trainings designed to boost the energy efficiency skills of oil heat technicians is on tap for April 9 and 10 at the Wild Center. Sponsored by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), the trainings will provide technicians with the opportunity to receive National Oilheat Research Alliance (NORA) Silver certification (April 9) and Advanced Oil Tank Installation and Maintenance training (April 10). The April 9 NORA Silver training will also provide building science and energy efficiency fundamentals that will assist oil heat technicians in securing accreditation from the Building Performance Institute (BPI). BPI now recognizes NORA Silver certification as an alternative accreditation path. BPI accreditation is a prerequisite to participating in NYSERDA’s Home Performance with ENERGY STAR Program. For more information about BPI Accreditation, visit: www.bpi.org. The April 10 Advanced Oil Tank Installation and Maintenance training will provide oil technicians with information about why tanks fail, tank installation criteria, assessment methods and how to install and maintain tanks in a way that minimizes service calls, leaks and failures. Those attending who are NORA certified earn 8 CEUs at the end of the class. Both trainings will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuition for the training is $50 and includes lunch and breaks. The training will feature nationally recognized oil heat trainer John Levey of Oilheat Associates of Wantagh. To register for this training, contact the Community Power Network of New York State at 251-2525 (phone) or 251-2524 (fax) or email at oilheattraining@gmail.com.
