Obituaries Mary Eileen Lawson Oct. 17, 1924-Sept. 23, 2009 TICONDEROGA — Mary Eileen Lawson, 84, of Ticonderoga, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at the Health and Rehabilitation Center of Burlington, Vt. Born in Shreveport, La., Oct. 17, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Margaret (Sullivan) McMahon. In her youth, Mrs. Lawson summered in Hague for many years. Mrs. Lawson was a graduate of Rosemont College of Rosemont, Pa. As a young lady, she was employed by an advertising firm in New York City. She married Gerald J. Lawson of Ticonderoga on March 8, 1958. She then moved to Ticonderoga with her husband and raised their family. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. She was very active in the Ticonderoga community, and volunteered for many organizations, including the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, the Moses-Ludington Hospital Auxiliary, the Ticonderoga College Club and the Ticonderoga Middle School Building Committee. She was a Literacy volunteer of Essex County, where she served as a tutor for many local children. She was pre-deceased by one sister, Ann King. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Gerald J. Lawson; four children, Mark F. Lawson of Wilmington, Del., Sheila A. Lawson of Wakefield, Mass., Peter M. Lawson of Naples, Fla., and David C. Lawson of Tampa, Fla.; and one brother, Charles McMahon of Wall, N.J. She is also survived by four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends called Friday, Sept. 25, 2009, from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. Scott Fobare officiated. The Rite of Committal will follow at the family plot of St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery of Ticonderoga. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 959 Route 9, Mount Royal Plaza, Queensbury12804.

TICONDEROGA — Walter Wiktorko, Jr., 40, of Ticonderoga, passed away suddenly on Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at the Moses-Ludington Hospital of Ticonderoga. Born in Ticonderoga, May 22, 1969, he was the son of the late Walter Wiktorko, Sr., and Bernice (Kiewlen) Catlin, who survives him, of Crown Point. Walter was a lifelong resident of Ticonderoga and was a graduate of Ticonderoga High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a Combat Engineer for his Company, in the First Calvary Division of the Persian Gulf War, in both Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He was a former employee of the International Paper Company of Ticonderoga. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 224 and the V.F.W. # 146, both of Ticonderoga. Walter was a devoted father, who cherished the time he spent with his children. He especially enjoyed trips to the ocean and fishing with his sons. He was a life-long New York Giants fan. He enjoyed gardening and he especially loved his mother’s polish cooking. In addition to his father, Walter Wiktorko, Sr., he was also predeceased by an infant brother, Joseph Wiktorko. Survivors include his wife, Dustina (Granger) Wiktorko; three children, Logan C. Wiktorko, Ryann A. Wiktorko, and Kaleb J. Wirtorko, all of Ticonderoga; his mother and step-father, Bernice and Glen N. Catlin of Crown Point; two brothers, John M. Wiktorko of Hadley and Tom J. Wiktorko of Crown Point; his step-grandmother, Marian E. Catlin of Ticondeorga; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his life-long friends, Randy Bevins and Donald J. Carey. Other close friends include Randy's children, Randy Bevins, Jr. and Derek Bevins. Relatives and friends called Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, Sept. 25, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Ticonderoga. The Rev. William G. Muench, Pastor, officiated. The Rite of Committal followed at the family plot of St. Mary's Parish Cemetery of Ticonderoga.

Joseph M. Gravelle passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven, Conn. He was born in Port Henry , son of Lawrence and Emily (Mulholland) Gravelle. His family moved to Ticonderoga in 1940 where he graduated from Ticonderoga High School, class of 1951, and from Becker College in Worcester, Mass., with a degree in business. Joseph served in the U. S. Army from 1954 to 1961. He was then employed by Schindler Elevator Co. until his retirement. He is survived by his wife of over 35 years, Shirley Gravelle, one son Larry of Mt. Joy, Pa., a sister Jane Beachley of Coxsackie, NY, and sister in-law Evelyn Gravelle of Ticonderoga, NY. Joseph was predeceased by his first wife, JoAnn, brother Lawrence Gravelle and a sister Mary Elizabeth Ledger. Joseph is also survived by his niece Peggy (Ledger) Hall and her family. They were a great joy to Joseph until the very end. He also loved Ticonderoga and wished he could return for many more visits. A Mass of Christian burial was held for Joseph on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at St. Bridget’s Church and burial was at Hillside Cemetery, both, in Cheshire, Conn.
