INDIAN LAKE Ñ Indian Lake Central School has again welcomed international students into the rural, tight-knit area. Superintendent Mark Brand said the second year of the program has gone smoothly so far, and is slowly growing each year. Though the transition may be an extreme one for the foreign students participating in the program, Brand feels that it is a positive experience for everyone. Ò We are a small school with kids from four years old up to 18 years old in the same building,Ó said Brand. Ò It has been interesting for these international kids to experience it, itÕ s like a big family.Ó This is the second year Indian Lake Central School has participated in the program, which is not an exchange program and Brand noted it has been an inspiring and beneficial experience for students and the community. This year, three students have been enrolled in Indian Central School through the program: Yun Hong Kim, a senior from South Korea; Mathis Vormelker, a junior from Germany; and Nicole Thut, a junior from Germany. Brand said the students are very involved with the school system, even participating on the competitive sports teams. Ò Usually the main issue with the students is their English, but this group is adjusting so well,Ó he said. CONTINUED ON PAGE 5
