North Country Singers invite songbirds to join their chorus By Maggie Morgan maggie@denpubs.com

NORTH CREEK Ñ Every Monday at 7 p.m., Johnsburg Central School’s band room will be filled with the sound of community voices coming together. Members of North Creek, Johnsburg, North River, Riparius, Minerva, Indian Lake, Schroon Lake and Chestertown areas gather together to make up the North Country Singers, all under the direction of Denise Conti. Conti said anyone who simply likes to sing is invited to join the group, who are now preparing music for their May concert.

HITTING THE SLOPES

Adirondack Day planned for teachers, students NEWCOMB Ñ Fifteen years after the Adirondack Curriculum Project (ACP) began, hundreds of teachers and students have been touched by their work and better understand the unique landscape of their home, the Adirondacks. They will share their knowledge with each other during Adirondack Day on March 11 at The Wild Center in Tupper Lake. Students and teachers from the region are invited to attend and share their projects. Adirondack Day is the perfect time to showcase student work. At the same time students get to see and learn about the Adirondacks from other students and tour the Wild Center for free. Adirondack Day has been funded by The Glenn and Carol Pearsall Adirondack Foundation, which is dedicated to improving the quality of life for yearround residents of the Adirondack Park. Often times in the Adirondacks, because of time and distance, small schools donÕ t have the opportunity to interact. Adirondack Day provides the opportunity for these students to meet and Ô teachÕ each other. Certainly by the end of the day, there will be over 100 young people more knowledgeable about the uniqueness of their home. Instilling that sense of individuality about their environment will create future stewards of the Adirondacks. Sandy Bureau, science teacher at Indian Lake Central School and one of the dayÕ s organizers says, Ò Research shows that having to Ô teachÕ others is one of the best ways
