newmarketpress@denpubs.com FAIR HAVEN — Fair Haven resident Jessica Flanders, 31, who was reported missing last week, was located and taken into protective custody in Missouri Nov. 6. Flanders, who was wheelchair bound, was contacted on a traffic stop in Dixon, Mo. Arrangements were made to return Flanders to her family and legal guardians in Vermont. No criminal charges have been filed; however, the case is considered open and under investigation.
Driver’s license suspended 12 years ago By Lou Varricchio
newmarketpress@denpubs.com RUTLAND — On Nov. 8, at 1:02 p.m., a member of the Vermont State Police conducted a traffic stop on South Main Street in the City of Rutland. Donald J. Pratt, 66, of Rutland was stopped after he was found operating his 2003 GMC Sonoma Truck with a criminally suspended license. Pratt’s license has been suspended since 2000 when he was convicted of DUI. He was cited at the scene, and released with a citation to appear in Rutland Superior Court Criminal Division at a later date and time to answer to the charge of criminal driving, license suspended.

New sheriff’s office opens in Rutland New home on Grove Street

newmarketpress@denpubs.com RUTLAND — Rewards belong to those who are patient—and the big rewards went to the Rutland County Sheriff ’s Department for waiting for its new headquaters to open. The county law enforcement agency’s new home—a large, renovated electronics repair shop—opened Nov, 9 at 88 Grove St. Until l;ast Friday, the office had been located at a crowded site at 108 Wales St. Public tours of the new site were offered during last week’s open house event. A ribbon-cutting cermont was also held with local VIPs, the sheriff ’s staff, city aldermen, and Chamber of Commerce officials in attendance. Students honored for Lions Club ‘Peace Poster Contest’ By Lou Varricchio
newmarketpress@denpubs.com BRANDON — Students of the Neshobe Elementary School in Brandon were given both an intellectual and artistic challenge by the BrandonForestdale Lions Club—imagine a world where peace triumphs over war and famine. Each year, Lions clubs around the world proud-
ly sponsor the Lions International Peace Poster Contest in local schools and youth groups. This art contest for kids encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. For 25 years, more than four million children from nearly 100 countries have participated in the contest. Each poster is judged on originality, artistic merit and expression of the theme.
Posters advance through several judging levels: local, district, multiple district and international. At the international level, judges from the art, peace, youth, education and media communities select one grand prize winner and 23 merit award winners. RUTLAND — Republicans not only took a drubbing in Vermont, but nationwide Nov. 6. As the nation shifted even more to the left than in 2008, Vermont moved closer to becoming a one-party only state. Gov. Peter Shumlin (D) won over 70 percent of the state with GOP Randy Brock (R) losing the battle over Vermont’s rising debt and alternative energy emphasis. Lt. Gov. Phil Scott (R) was reelected with the State House gaining two GOP seats from Rutland—Cooper Cupoli and Douglas Gage both defeated Democrats. See Election, page 12
