thom@denpubs.com ATHOL — Faced with questions of the viability of their local ambulance squad, the Thurman Town Board is now considering signing a two-year, $80,000 contract with the Warrensburg ambulance squad to provide emergency medical services to Thurman residents. A public hearing on the proposal is to be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday April 8 in the Thurman Town Hall. The contract consideration follows recent outcry from members of Thurman Emergency Medical Services — and some town citizens — who believe the locally based squad can provide quicker and more neighborly response. Lake George’s John Herzog, former president of the local seniors' club, talks at a Lake George Village zoning forum March 25 about how changes in the existing ordinances are likely to boost local prosperity. In addition to stringent architectural guidelines for new buildings and renovations, the proposed zoning changes would allow buildings on some parcels downtown to be up to 72 feet high, exceeding the existing 3-story limit. Zoning debate continues in Lake George By Thom Randall thom@denpubs.com LAKE GEORGE — A proposal to increase the height of buildings in Lake George Village as tall as six stories may have sparked controversy for months, but only several dozen attended a pub-

Several people attending did object to the height extension initiative, which is included as part of an array of pending zoning changes now under consideration by the Lake George Village Board.

With an eye on boosting local prosperity, the Village Board of Trustees has proposed to allow buildings in particular commercial zones on and near Canada St. to be as tall as 72 feet high. The board has also endorsed strict design guidelines with a goal of improving the commercial zone aesthetically.

BID in Albany who conducted a discussion on the formation and benefits of a Business Improvement District. Capese has also led the BID in Canandaigua, a lakeside community in western New York similar to Lake George Village. As an outcome of the event, several business proprietors agreed to

serve on a steering committee to form the BID. A variety of questions were raised about the costs of funding the organization, as well as its interaction with local government, Capese said Tuesday April 2. “The participants asked really insightful technical questions on CONTINUED ON PAGE 11
