GABRIELS Ñ Under a cloudless blue sky on the edge of Lake Clear in Franklin County, Gov. Andrew Cuomo studied the horizon and prepared for a ride. Ò IÕ m here to have fun,Ó he said. Ò WeÕ ll get serious later when we talk about how to promote tourism and provide economic development and jobs. WeÕ re going to put the two together Ñ the story of Adirondack tourism is a story that hasnÕ t yet been told.Ó Cuomo was in this small hamlet in the town of Lake Clear Ñ and later, in the village of Lake Placid Ñ for the 2014 Adirondack Winter Challenge, a daylong event designed to highlight winter tourism in Upstate New York where an estimated 400 elected officials and winter enthusiasts from across the state gathered on Sunday, March 9 to participate in wintertime sports, including bobsledding, toboggan rides, curling, speed-skating and of course, snowmobiling. New York State Snowmobile Association President Jim Elmore said snowmobiling generated $868 million in revenue for the state last year Ñ Ò and that was a slow year,Ó he said. Ò When the chief executive officer of the state recognizes your sport, itÕ s a huge honor,Ó he said. Elmore said heÕ s impressed that Cuomo has taken such a hands-on interest in the sport and how snowmobiling clubs operate. CONTINUED ON PAGE 5

seth@denpubs.com JOHNSBURG Ñ Johnsburg Central School performs an age old play, Ò YouÕ re A Good Man, Charlie Brown,Ó at the Johnsburg Central School Gymnasium Friday, March 28, and Saturday March 29, at 7 p.m. The idea for the play came from Johnsburg superintendent Mike Markwica, who had seen the play years ago and really enjoyed it. When faculty director Mary Leach
was looking for suggestions for this year Õ s show, Markwica made a strong case for the Charlie Brown play. Ò Being that itÕ s based on the Ô PeanutsÕ comic strip, everybody should be familiar with the characters,Ó said Leach. The story line is a typical day in the life of Charlie Brown and the cast consists entirely of Johnsburg High School Students. The cast includes Even Riedinger as Charlie Brown, Emma Lee Ellsworth

MINERVA Ñ Yes, itÕ s still pretty cold out there, but the sugar maples of Minerva are getting ready to do something that they are very good at: making maple sap and thus, wonderful maple products. In Minerva, folks will find a terrific sugarbush at Maple Knoll Farm on the 14th Road. Owned and operated by Eric Klippel, the Farm has been a consistent and prolific producer of fine maple syrup for many years. Maple Knoll Farm is an active participant in the Maple Weekend celebration, sponsored by the NYS Maple Producers Association. For two weekends, March 22, 23 and March 29, 30, the Farm on the 14th Road in Minerva will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day for all to come visit. Free coffee, lemonade, home-made donuts, and maple samplers will be available throughout each day on these weekends.. Follow the signs to find the Farm. Maple Knoll Farm is ready for the season for sure Ñ a total of 1,200 taps have now been placed, and the operation is poised to begin serious production. Find out more about the Farm and Maple Weekend by checking out this website: www.mapleknollsyrup. com or call (518) 251-5141 to find out more. Come on out and find out what great Minerva maple syrup is all about!
